I’m 63, have been making bone broth and taking collagen for at least 4 years, consistently. My hair is darker, much coarser, and fuller. My nails are hard as rock. Skin wise, I look pretty good for my age, and think that hydration, sleep and aerobic exercise help too. Also, I have zero joint pain and I’m an open water swimmer. So at my age, that says something!
@@k1nkstar448 you are very welcome! To be honest, my real ambition is to preserve my bone integrity. No one has studied if collagen helps maintain bones, but for the aging population, this is the top priority. I walk on average 2.6 miles daily (as per my ❤️ app) and my last bone density test showed a slight decrease in numbers but generally that I have maintained things over the last 5 years. So maybe collagen did help, but walking is the #1 best maintenance program. Happy Valentine’s Day! 💐💕💐💕

I mean, without any real research that would be independent, i think bying and eating via oral application collagen is really not even resposible or reasonable and is build just on hope that it will help this way we can daily eat a orange and velieve it will eeally somehow impact our skin...its snake oil salesman product for me and we really dont know if uts not harmful for longtime use not to say marine based have heavy metals and the onea from cows can carry other diseases and antibiotics
I’m 48 and I do take collagen supplements regularly the last 3 years and I definitely see myself having a better, brighter skin, thicker hair and stronger nails. I still don’t have wrinkles. But I must say, having a healthy lifestyle and taking collagen goes hand in hand. I exercise, I don’t smoke and don’t drink alcohol and just generally watch what I eat. It’s a continuous thing, I’m afraid.
@@sassypants420 Hi Sally I take crystal collagen from a Japanese brand called Itoh Hanako. It’s in a liquid form, comes in a 50ml bottle that you drink every other day. I live in Southeast Asia and most of my beauty products are from local brands.
I use a hydrolyzed bovine collagen powder by 'Great Lakes Wellness'. I put in 12 grams of powder, 2 scoops, into 3-4 ounces of orange juice, using a whisk- It may take 30 seconds or so- no big deal. One can purchase a frother too, for $ 7.00 - $12.00, but I like my mini whisk. There may be some undissolved particles, but I feel it goes down well. I started with 3.5 scoops and now use what I mentioned, sometimes a little extra, every other day before eating my dinner. ( I also intermittent fast - eat 1 meal a day and anything extra within 4 hours). I just turned 53 & I noticed a change at age 48-50 in my skin. Beginning premenopausal stage... I only use SPF when the sun is shining and a moisturizer, usually makeup free, and sunglasses, even when the sun isn't out. I wash my face with a tea tree face soap nightly (Trader Joe's), and then use the same moisturizer, CeraVe, or thick Nivea cream, oils sometimes, and use that on my face down to my dècolletė and then just use cold water in the morning. I have noticed that my skin has become nice and taut. It has also helped my joints, however, every other day when I'm not using the collagen powder, I take one tablespoon of omega 3 fish oil, also right before eating. I dread these days. That's my routine but I am going to start using microneedling for my nasolabial folds to see if that will make a difference, for how I feel that I would like changes, tretnoin, and exercising, depending on how I feel- long story. I would like to have toned arms & I have to do something to tone my legs around my knees. I'm 5'8" and 67 kg. I don't smoke, drink occasionally, but I'm a sun worshiper in the summer months. ( sunscreen throughout the day, a large beach umbrella, and a small one, just for my upper body depending on how much sun I'd like or how hot it is. * That's it ladies. TMI - sorry, but I believe in women supporting women. Perhaps something will help someone, maybe not. I prefer more information in the comments section, rather than not enough details. Have a nice week ahead and enjoy the changes that you see with collagen powder plus other things! One more thing - we shouldn't be so hard on how we age. So many men start growing facial hairas they age and so much is hidden. Being empathetic, truly, and a good person is so much more important. Support other women i.e., giving a true compliment; telling her that the tag of the back of the shirt needs to be tucked in, just a simple hello, or smile can make someone's day nicer, including yours. 😉
Excellent video! Amino acids are so important for our health. My grandmother had no wrinkles, she always enjoyed bone broth soup. Although some people may find it a little gross, she had chicken feet bone broth, in Mexico it was and still is a budget soup to make. I tried it myself, but I could never eat the feet, I only drank the soup. I also would make fish gelatin out of the scales of the fish when I was living in Mexico. We only do kosher/halal bone broths and gelatins because grandma's know best. My great grandfather had not one wrinkle in his face, he died in his 90's and he had a full set of hair, not to mention also no joint problems either. Shalom.
I am Eurasian and have chicken feet/lamb/beef homemade bone broth regularly. Its best with Black Silky chicken as it has tons of extrs nutrients compared to normal chicken. Chicken is Type II collagen & beef is Type I & III. After cooking for 3+ hours the bones get soft so a spoon them out and cut them finely to get to the marrow inside and put it back in. You can also add Chinese herbal broth sachets which has EXTREME health benefits and gives an exotic taste. Its basically Chinese Medicine.

By far the best and most informative explanation of collagen I have ever heard! I REALLY appreciate that you are being honest and truthful, admitting there are things that you don't fully understand, and this was not simply just a marketing video for your own product! Thanks so much! 😊

0:00: 🔬 Dr. Amir Karem discusses the topic of collagen supplements and its benefits and risks. 4:05: 🔑 Collagen plays a crucial role in various parts of our body and its production diminishes with age, leading to skin aging and other issues. 7:24: ✨ Collagen is a protein made up of amino acids, including glycine and proline, and requires Vitamin C, zinc, and copper for production. When ingested, collagen is broken down into individual amino acids that are used to build proteins in the body. 12:32: ✅ Collagen supplements can enhance collagen production, but getting the necessary amino acids and vitamins through diet is equally effective. 14:33: 💡 To stimulate collagen production in the skin, it is important to use topical active ingredients like retinoids and vitamin C, as well as undergo external injury procedures like chemical peels or laser treatments. Consistency is key in using these agents, and supplementing with collagen-building components in the diet can also be beneficial. 17:26: 🔬 Collagen supplements may have some benefits for skin hydration, fine lines and wrinkles, joint pain, and hair and nail growth, but more research is needed. 20:40: 🧪 Using collagen supplements can have benefits for skin, nails, joints, and hair, but it is important to choose a reputable brand and use as directed. 23:58: 💡 Understanding collagen and its role in skincare. Dr. Karam, you did my rhinoplasty when I was a teenager. Here I am at 35 learning how to slow down the Time Machine. I love these informative videos coming from you. Thank you!
@@CCBloom1 I LOVE it! I would only let Dr. Karam touch my face. I wanted a natural hardly noticeable outcome and that is what I got. No regrets! Now I’m saving for a vertical restore in 10-20 years 😂
Your explanation is very clear. No sugar coating. Simple, yet very informative. I've been taking collagen supplements for quite some time now and I can see and feel good results. However, there are dermatologists in our country who perceive otherwise, hence discouraging. After watching this video, my thoughts on collagen supplements became clearer. Thanks for doing this video. More power to your channel!
Very informative. I’ve been using collagen for a few years. I add it to my coffee every morning. I can tell the difference with my hair and nails. I’m 54 and do some sort of work out daily. My knees were starting to feel it. I’ve noticed it’s helped with the inflammation as well. I just recently started using retinol and vitamin C on my face. It’s a full time job keeping your youth going as you age!🤪😉
Finally a serious doctor that talks about bone broth and its benefits. I don't think there are studies about the benefits of bone broth so it's very useful you talking about it and I trust completely your knowledge on the subject!!
I enjoy your videos so much. It’s so nice to get advice from somebody you can trust on social media these days. I’m 53 and have been trying to deal with aging skin issues for some time. I’ve always had really nice skin (thanks to my mom’s side of the family) but after a really rough decade, this is no longer the case. After watching one of your videos I got onto a super consistent skin regiment with your recommended products and am seeing a huge difference. A bit more fullness, definitely less dull and much softer. Keep up the great work. We old ladies appreciate it!
@@dramirkaram Hello. I also enjoy all of your videos and the education that you provide. My question is: Is it alright to put 12 grams of collagen powder into 3-4 ounces of orange juice? Do I need more fluids & I usually then eat my dinner after drinking it. The quantity of the liquid is what my concern is. What do you think Dr. Karam? I look forward to your answer and would you kindly give me your rationale for your answer. Thanking you in advance Dr. Karam.
This is by FAR & AWAY the most complete video on CZcams about collagen and collagen supplementation - at least that I have found!! (And I follow a TON of doctors on here, so THANK YOU, Dr. Karam! You did a phenomenal job explaining without getting too much in the weeds. Appreciate the sharing of knowledge and SO glad I found your channel because I love, love, LOVE science! Rock on & Teach on!
Greetings from NYS - 86 y/o Granny here . About 2 years ago my knees quit - simply refused to work - and hurt. I was hobbling around with a cane -- -couldn't get up from out of a chair without bracing on the chair arms. My daughter and I were considering getting a walker for me. My Dr. said it was Osteoarthritis & wanted to send me to a Rheumatologist. I disagreed. >>> I was/am not ready for that - - did some research - started taking Native Path - got my mobility back. No more knee pain -- no more disability. My 26 y/o grandson and I race our shopping carts to our car through Walmart lot. ***The hair & nail improvement are only a bonus. Wish I had known about Collagen sooner - but better late than never. I give Native Path as gifts to the people I love.
About 3 years my mother was in the hospital and almost died. She was dehydrated and had sepsis which caused her to be delusional and loss of memory. She also had a loss of appetite and was pretty much a lost cause. On top of pray I decided to put a fairly good dose of Hydrolyzed Collagen Bone Broth powder mixed in her drink. We noticed that she was gaining strength day by day. She also had to take a strong antibiotic. Thank God she got better and I continued to give her the Collagen in her coffee every day. That said in a matter of 3 months she was back her pain in the butt self. Also my mom nails grown the longest and strongest I've ever seen in my whole life time.
I'm 61 and have had a wound on the top of my head for years. I washed the spot multiple times daily, placing a bandage over the wound to keep it clean, and nothing worked. I started taking collagen 2 months ago and the wound is now nearly healed.
Dr. Karam, you are a wonderful teacher. You speak with honesty and such clarity that any individual can understand, but most importantly learn more about the body. Thank you for going above and beyond. I wish all doctors would teach and not just perform a procedure without the patient understanding what is actually happening. Knowledge is power. Thank you again! One day soon I will schedule an appointment with you. 🙏🏼
im 94 and take no drugs and have reversed my sagging skin on my arms when i show off my biceps. Ive know about this for awhile. I want to tell the world that you are for real and are a realist that knows his stuff. I wish you the best . You were a great reinforcer for me. Theres so many baloney pushers out there but you are the real deal my friend. Thank you. PS, i just wanted to add this tip. I dont know if its helpful for anyone else but since ive been 75 about, ive gone to sleep at 6 PM. I get up around 3 or 4 and that happened by itself. not sure why i would think it helps with skin but its helped me in general so i just thought id add that.
Excellent, I am 62 and have been taking collagen powder for about 5 months and I can see great improvement in my hair, skin, and nails, I also learned that it is good for the stimulation of cancer cells and stopping them from growing.

Bone broth getting popular in the US when my indigenous grandmother thought us how to use every part of the animal and when she made any type pf soup or stew she would always say “drink the broth, that’s where all the vitamins are” ( I apologize for my grammar. Excellent video. I decided to start taking marine collagen, recently had knee surgery for a second meniscus repair. I was hesitant, but after watching this video I feel better about it. This surgery has been more difficult, as I am 70 years old. You always provide excellent information. I don't go in the sun, after a severe burn at 22, I stayed away. I use retinol daily with other facial products. I usually do a dermabrasion every 4 months. Thanks, for the information, really love your videos!
I’m an internist and I specialized. What we have to learn on the whole, as practicing physicians and patients, people of society, that everything that will be successful required all the ingredients and the right process to put it together. There has rarely ever been “the one thing” that made that something a success. Health emerges from this orchestration. In general, our health and social systems have all been functioning in divisions and separate systems. One other thing I would add…healthy vascular health would likely contribute to improved collagen production and deposition in desired areas, since micro vascular structures are the most sensitive to the states of blood flow.
I started taking collagen for vanity but it has been super helpful with my crohns disease and healing the gut which makes me get better nutrition and therefore the skin.
2 years ago I bought an unflavored collagen with biotin off Amazon (black container). I put 1 tablespoon a day in my coffee, and my hair has grown like crazy !
I have taken Proto-col collagen capsules since I broke my arm in 2018, my hair grows like crazy and for the first time in my life, my nails are hard and strong .
I would highly recommend that if you take collagen powders (including Vital Proteins) that you also supplement with Lysine. Otherwise you might put yourself at risk of shingles. The arginine level needs to be less than the lysine level. There is a lot of research on this which I discovered the first time I got shingles. The second time I was coming down with shingles, as I was in the pharmacy to pick up a prescription for shingles, I saw the vital Proteins can and looked at the ingredients and saw the lysine/arginine ratio and knew exactly why I was coming down with shingles again. I picked up a bottle of lysine and took that and my shingles stopped within a day. I never took the prescription. Anyway, I think the lysine connection was discovered because many bodybuilders were getting shingles and they also take a lot of protein supplements.
You have made a real fan of your channel! I so enjoy your detailed explanation broken down in such a way as to be easily understandable by those if us who have no background in science or medicine. Really appreciate your generosity in sharing so much with us.
I have a degree in organic chemistry and I am ER nurse, always liked science, biochem was my fav class...always curious and interested in human body, skin as the largest organ and exposed to environment the most... Dr. Karam thank u so much for very interesting films...I absolutely love them!!!! love broth, take collagen powder, do microneedling... I would like you to give more info about growth factor..
I think growth factors tend to be shrouded in a bit of mystery, perhaps because they are proteins which have been grown from harvesting skin tissue from an aborted fetus people feel a bit uncomfortable talking too much about them
I added collagen to my daily routine a couple months ago. I have a fairly good diet and take some other supplements. I do weightlifting and running for sports. I noticed my joint pain has gone away now. Nails are also stronger and hair-softer.
I am so glad you did this video. I had been hoping someone would address this issue and whether there was any benefit to taking a collagen supplement or not. I researched for about a year before I decided to rake the plunge. I was truly hoping to find a vegan supplement, but everything I read, didn’t seem to support those supplements like they do the bovine-based collagen. I am using the live conscious brand which uses 19 naturally occurring amino acids, as well as Types I and III hydrolyzed collagen. I questioned myself, whether I would continue taking it after this supply runs out, but after seeing your video, I think I will continue with it! It can’t hurt!
There is no vegan collagen. Unless you find a very sophisticated product that is somehow skirting the line between the plant and animal kingdoms. Products that claim to be vegan collagen are usually made up of ingredients that supposedly pump up your body's own collagen production: glycine, vitamin c, carotenes, silica, biotin, etc.
I watch your channel religiously! I have learned that maintaining your skin is one of the most important factors in prepping your skin for any facial treatment. Presently, I take a collagen supplement with hyaluronic acid, and it has been an amazing find. I take the proper intake of vitamins, maintain a healthy diet and of course, I drink plenty of water for hydration. I find that microneedling stimulates my collagen as well. However, I'd like to thank you for sharing your expertise with collagen supplements as a part of a health and skincare regimen with your audience. Btw, you have an amazing staff... Thanks again!
I’m 71 and started taking marine collage peptides (I’m pescatarian) around two years ago because my fingernails, which have always been fairly weak, were splitting and breaking off below the quick despite my following all of the usual advice. The issues have been substantially reduced, of course I can’t prove cause and effort. I started to see improvement in 3-4 months. I also believe that my mild to moderate instances of joint pain have been reduced in the time I’ve used it. Obviously 100% anecdotal, but I’ve tried to be accurate and objective since that %?!# isn’t cheap.

@@N3dita I started off taking the pill from, just a generic Meijer brand of collagen. The bottle lasted two months. And I saw some cool results during that time. My nails had never been stronger in my life! For months 3 and 4 I switched to Vital Proteins powder collagen peptides and this one I really had great results with, I'm guessing because of the consistency and the fact that it had all 5 types of collagen in that brand. By month 3 my hair began to grow thicker and longer. My skin looked really good, it had a glow... which at 40 was really exciting! ;) By month 4 the coolest thing was my joints didn't crack every time I walked up the stairs and after over a decade I could kneel again without wanting to cry! It was amazing! I can't stress enough that I believe consistency is the key, and I was also walking 5 times a week, nothing crazy just 45 minute walks outside. And I had also started taking prenatal vitamins, magnesium and B12. I was trying to eat relatively well but mainly in moderation, no dieting. I think the combination of all of the above really helped everything work to the best of it's ability. I'm 41, mother of two, and definitely not a doctor!!! ;) I just wanted to make a change when I hit 40 and luckily I had great results! I truly wish everyone the best!! As with anything, review everything before you buy... especially supplements!!! Hope this was helpful! 💜👍💕
Thank you Dr. Karam! Question: How do you balance stimulating collagen production via external injury and the risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation?
I took collagen for 3 months a few years ago, I found that my nails were thicker, but they were all breaking like I had never experienced before in my entire life. I realized that if my nails were breaking, this could also apply to any part of my vascular system, which relies on collagen for elasticity. As a registered nurse who works in neurology, I always wondered if collagen quality plays a role in arterial dissection. I wondered if a thicker and stiffer nail bed could mean a thicker but stiffer circulatory system. I stopped taking it. I don't think there are enough studies, and it is not worth the risks. My theory is that oral collagen cannot be optimally metabolized, possibly creating a faulty collagen matrix that could lead to problems. A good analogy would be the latest pharmaceuticals used to strengthen osteoporotic bones, the drug causes the bones to loose elasticity and turn the bone into a glass like matrix. I would rather source my protein from sources such as food and a trusted whey powder (grass fed, no hormones and anribiotics).
I noticed that with my nails too but I was taking a woman’s multivitamin vitamin gummy that had a very small amount of collagen but a high level of biotin. My nails were definitely harder which I seen as stronger but then they were breaking more than normal. So I didn’t know what to make of it and rendered it useless for longer nails. My interest was mainly in skin and hair and it definitely delivered in those two areas.
My understanding is that the body prioritizes certain tissues over others when it comes to rebuilding. So it would make sense that the heart and blood vessels, for instance, would be tended to before the skin. One other comment I would add is that the drugs used to strengthen osteoporotic bones operate by a quite flawed process. What they do is prevent the action of osteoclasts (which break down the bone) and enhance the action of osteoblasts, which build it. The problem here is that when you interfere with the natural breakdown/rebuilding process of bones, the body can no longer use the release of those minerals to balance the electrolytes in the blood, and that's why these drugs can cause heart failure and other problems. Also, bones that are constantly being re-mineralized in an out-of-balance fashion do become brittle. Just as important for the bones are protein, collagen and vitamin C, for instance, in order to create a matrix scaffolding that is RESILIENT, not just hard! Sorry to have rambled 😉
Your thoughts about collagen migrating to a unknown part of the body and forming a matrix which could block blood vessels, etc, is exactly what my thoughts were when I heard people promoting it. Similar to my concern about Statins - they reduce bad cholesterol, but new cells need cholesterol- so what problems is this reduction causing in the body?
@@SkyeeBlue3I use grass fed bovine collagen powder for my Rheumatoid Arthritis. It personally helps me with my joint issues. I put it in my morning smoothie. I started taking collagen and the dark spots under my eyes are almost gone. My co worker told me to start taking it to keep my skin firm once he noticed I was losing weight. One thing that was getting me down I was losing weight but the dark spots under my eyes really got worse. Since I been taking the collagen for about a week and a half and my wife asked me what I using for my dark spots under my eyes. I said nothing, why? She said I ,,can barely see them. Great video. I have been making my own bone/fish/chicken broths for a year. Nails are stronger. Hair is darker and stronger. Some grey hairs have turned black - some keep coming and going. Tasty. Versatile. Fixed my knee pain. Improved my skin texture - reduced wrinkles to fine lines. They too seem to be disappearing slowly. I add it to beans, soups and just mix the 3 and drink them some evenings or when I am fasting I take the broths all day long. Makes me look much younger now.
@@shannonsmith2642 Mine don't smell. I had that fear initially, especially with the fish broth. Not sure why they don't smell. Maybe I add lots of celery, its known to absorb smells, even when used internally. I dont mind the grease, its from bones and I need the fats in there.

Best information I've ever gotten from any doctor. I planned a face lift prior to the covid thing now it's off the table. However, once savings are replenished again I'm booking with Dr Karam, period!! I've been a vegetarian for 50 years and the lack of that protein source is badly showing. After this education I'm going to add a clean source of white fish to my diet otherwise another 10 years of my existing diet will not end well. My choice of no meat was and still is based on a total love for all animals and a lifetime in rescuing them but that comes at a high price.
Look into plant based omegas as well, low omega fatty acids (and fats in general) also impacts the skin. There are tons of new vegan options for protein now
I've been in rescue for a while. Many are vegetarian but plenty of us aren't. I only eat pastured or ethically hunted meat and wild fish. No feed lot for us, that's wrong. I had contemplated becoming vegetarian but as a scientist I knew I would be shorting myself of critical nutrients. All the best in your journey, wherever it leads you.
I, too, have been taking the Vital Proteins (marine peptides) brand for several years! No more knee pain at all. It took about 3-4 months to notice the pain had totally disappeared. I discontinued using the powder for 2 weeks (as an experiment) and knee pain returned! I will continue using this product and hopefully continue playing tennis because of it!!
I've been taking marine collagen and gelatin religiously for 9 months. No changes to my hair or skin. Only thing I noticed is a deep cut on my finger heald up REALLY fast, but left a very noticeable scar. I never had scars before.
I am 65 and I have been taking grass fed, Collagen peptides for about 6 yrs faithfully. My hair is now thicker and grows even faster than it use to. Of coarse so does the woman mustache. lol. My nails started getting weak 10 yrs ago, now they are strong and grow great...of coarse so do my toes nails. My skin looks great for 65 and I do not have the small wrinkles you would expect to see in someone my age. My joints do not ache, however I feel that is partly because I avoid a lot of carbs. I do feel Collagen is worth taking.

Thank you Doc. The best explanation ever. Now I know a lot about collagen, I always wondered about it. Thanks again Doc for breaking it down so thoroughly.
I am waiting on my collagen. My nails and hair use to grow so fast. Now it's slow. Reading the comment's excite me. I can't wait. I take d3 plus k2 and eat nato. K2 stimulates collagen production. Its gonna be an amazing combination
I've also heard that combining Turmeric supplements with the Vit. C & Collagen can be beneficial for joints and skin. 🤷I've been trying it, but too soon to tell
Dr. Kamir, I’ve been watching and taking your advises for a few weeks, and they are all great. But for this topic, I have to disagree with you. When I became 65, all the sudden I lost skin elasticity, nails became brittle and hair got thinner. With desperation, I started to take inexpensive collagen powder every morning and night (I use both Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides and Orgain Collagen Peptides). I also hit my face with my fingers every night. And to my pleasant surprise, within 6 months, my nail grow stronger, hair gets thicker and my skin restored elasticity. With Retinol from Bare Mineral, Vitamin C serum from Olay and hyaluronic acid from Roc, line are gone, cheeks are more lifted and people tells me that they believe I am in 30s. SO COLLAGEN SUPPLIMENTS WORKS LIKE A MIRACLE!!! I highly recommend everyone in my age to take it daily. BTW, my avatar is how I look now. 😉

It is interesting to hear your explanations of why that is, as you did in the lip video. I'll be interested to discover your solutions to correct sun damage as well as decent SPF etc. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
@dramirkaram You're most welcome. So can the trifecta products actually fade out sun spots? I bought the SPF you recommended, but I'm not sure how the product will work. I have some retinol OTC products and hyaluronic moisturizers etc and some botanical and vit C. But nothing ever seems to do more than just sort of fade short of clearing fully. At over 200.00 a month, I'm just not wanting to end up no better off than Neutrogena stuff.
I have used VITAL PROTEINS collagen peptides for the last two years for the sake of my connective tissue and gut health. I have noticed that my hair and nails have gotten thicker.
I have been consuming Vital for over a year & love all the benefits. My skin, hair & nails look great at 72 yrs old. The best part for me was I noticed the aches & pains from 4 auto accidents I have suffered from for over 50 years diminishing to no more pains getting up out of bed in the mornings 😮😳🙄🙏! Surprise, surprise! Apparently our bodies need collagen supplements due to diminished production as we age! No one said my aching pains would be affected in any way especially this way. Connective tissues need collagen! 👍
Impressively thorough, science-based, and balanced video! Thank you very much Dr. Karam for putting collagen supplements in context of an overall skincare regime. I like the idea that though any noted improvements due to collagen supplementation alone cannot be explained with the current scientific knowledge we have, there may be pathways we're not aware of that underlie said improvements and the benefits of supplementation/diet-based enrichment of collagen outweigh the costs.
I haven’t gone through all of your videos just yet but so far you have explained, clarified and corrected what I thought I knew. I’ll be in my mid 50s and on hind sight I wish I had started using moisturizer, sunscreens etc. earlier in life aside from just diligently washing the face 2x daily. Have had no toxins or fillers. Never had issues with Pimples or acnes but whiteheads are becoming a problem lately and the the extra skin in the upper lids making them look hooded. If you don’t mind could you please touch on these topics in your future talks? Thanks.
My rheumatologist had me start collagen for my RA. It surprisingly made my wrinkles softer, helps my hair and my joints. But not all collagen products are as good as each other. The pills did nothing, the powder I get from Swanson is the good one, for myself. Has helped my husband’s joint issues as well. We put it in our morning smoothie along with protein powder. (Autoimmune issues make me malnourished at times, I need the protein powder per doctor.) I also take fish oil for my RA, helps my skin and hair too. Great to know it helps cardiovascular! (I have heart conditions) Great video!
Very informative, honest and simplified. I like to watch MDs on youtube who share their opinions about certain topics. What I've noticed is that initially opinions are informative, unbiased and very useful. I also have seen how things change when same individuals get sponsored by some companies and start to promote products that are questionable. I liked this video and subscribed to the channel because content was unbiased and educational. Also reading patient's comments I felt they feel the same way. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge on the topic with us.
Glad you did this one. Researching the brand's and types is crucial with some having fillers and things that stress kidneys. We found a Senzu bovine version that's made a nice difference. I use a retinol cleanser, a retinol cream for evening. I use a little argan oil on my face in the morning while treating my hair. Eating right does make a difference. Loss of estrogen doesn't help the acceleration either. The bovine supplement with some vitamin C in the morning is helping skin, hair, nails and my joints. Making the right choices isn't easy with all the fades available. It's easy to can your own bone stock or freeze in ice cube trays to transfer into freezer bags. Year's ago we used to buy gelatin packs. It's still an option if you can find. Would you provide a video on different laser options? Some out there are stacking products and aggressive. Catch phrases are used with problems resulting. Thanks for sharing
Im new to your channel. I really enjoyed how you were honest and broke everything down. Im trying all of these things and i can tell a difference. Cant wait to see more videos ❤
Thank you 🙏 this is such a great, comprehensive video on collagen. I was about to purchase collagen powder (and yes, it’s not cheap!) and I’m glad I remembered you had a video on collagen and I watched it first. I decided to consume more homemade bone broth instead. Hello doctor and how are you ? I am wondering where your clinic is in the US. Thanks
Well done and thanks for inspiring the younger us 🙏
@@k1nkstar448 you are very welcome! 💐💕💐💕

@@dramirkaram how do you feel about collagen from the Great Lakes brand?

If you wouldn't mind linking that research, I'd like to read it. Thanks!
Very interesting! Thanks 😊
Why aren’t the protein supplement companies adding lysine themselves? Seems so strange. TFS such important info

Any protein will provide amino acids. They're the building blocks of protein.
Vital Proteins has a marine collagen formula! I'll have to check the thread, someone just mentioned a brand that was hormone free.

@@SometimesPerplexed I don't know why anyone would have said that to you or called you a name but there is an edit feature that you can use to correct an error that you notice you made,, after you have already sent a comment.
Okay to the right of your name, in the comment you just posted, far-right of screen you'll see three little black vertical dots
Click on that and you will see an option to edit your comment or even delete it if you wish. So just click on the word edit it will show your comment in a box which is really stupid but you can then go back and fix anything you like without having to post a completely new comment.
Hope that helps!

I loved the POD cast, I an 67, got wrinkles, hair loss, chipped nails, will start doing all the things dr. mentioned.
74 and just started collagen peptides with bovine. I don’t eat meat so I thought I would try it. Expensive but needed a boost with my salads and fruit. Started keto too about six weeks ago. A scoop of powder in my coffee and a replacement for a meal. Organic
I consume a korean nano patented fish peptide collagen for few years now i find it very hydrating more than anything, at the same time i also consume gluthatione and pinebark for the gut so absorbtion is prime part of the collagen consumption. Thankyou dr for educating us on these topics.
Would you mind explaining the gut absorption part??? Or the brand of collagen you use? I've been using Vital Proteins and had great results, but if I should be doing something different for better absorption I would very much appreciate your help explaining that!!! Thanks! Have a wonderful day!
Can you please put up half w to get your fish peptide collagen. I have chronic dehydration issues from auto immune disease. Anything helps since So Cal is a desert 🏜 & we get wretched Santa Annas
Thank you for watching!
@@jenniferfitzgerald369 what great results did you have? And after how much time did you notice them?
Good question… but it doesn’t take much injury so light treatments are ok and no risk for PIH
.
@@melissajanaemiddleton6811 so is collagen powder good or no in the long run? If so...marine or bovine? I'm 52 and a little confused. Thanks.
I can feel the difference if I don’t take it.
I’ve been taking it for years now, along with fish oil for my RA. (I have to do the gummies or else I burp fish oil. 😄)
That's when I knew that the collagen was working and that my skin was getting more firm.
Interesting, I just started taking a collagen supplement and I see the difference in my hair, which was beginning to thin at the front, but is filling out. Thank you for breaking this down.
I'm checking the ingredients as you speak.
I finally went all carnivore two months ago, I love my beef soup and I get my vitamins from chicken eggs. Now I'm reversing autoimmune diseases and aging. 😊
I’m trying carnivore but 6 weeks in and not losing weight. Must be doing something wrong in my meals
Once a hair goes gray it can’t go back to dark….
@@shannonsmith2642 I bet that's your experience, right? So, no arguments from me on your experience.
Well, my experience is different from yours.
@@mandandi no hate. I’d like to try the bone broth consistently but can’t get over the greasiness of it. Anyway you have found to mask it?
@@shannonsmith2642 Mine don't smell. I had that fear initially, especially with the fish broth. Not sure why they don't smell. Maybe I add lots of celery, its known to absorb smells, even when used internally. I dont mind the grease, its from bones and I need the fats in there.
@@mandandi I’ll try adding celery and onion. Thks!
I was using collagen daily and finally realized it was constipating me. So i had to stop. Constipation improved. Never really saw the improvement to my skin. I used it for 2 years. Never sawany improvement but did suffer from constipation.
I wish I can visit doctor problem is that I'm very far, it's so beneficial listening to his health tips
Do you know where he's at?
Very impressed with your delivery. Very genuine. Your passion shows through! Thank you!
Animal lovers eating them? Bizarre!
Great educational video Dr. Karam. Thank you for taking the time to break it down in an easy and organized way to understand and follow.
Glad you found it helpful!
I've been taking marine collagen and gelatin religiously for 9 months.
No changes to my hair or skin. Only thing I noticed is a deep cut on my finger heald up REALLY fast, but left a very noticeable scar. I never had scars before.
Please make it more affordable so we can all buy it and take care of our skin 🙂
I am 65 and I have been taking grass fed, Collagen peptides for about 6 yrs faithfully. My hair is now thicker and grows even faster than it use to. Of coarse so does the woman mustache. lol. My nails started getting weak 10 yrs ago, now they are strong and grow great...of coarse so do my toes nails. My skin looks great for 65 and I do not have the small wrinkles you would expect to see in someone my age. My joints do not ache, however I feel that is partly because I avoid a lot of carbs. I do feel Collagen is worth taking.
So thorough and comprehensive. You have made this topic easy to understand for professionals and the lay public as well. Thank you.
Bravo!
Glad you enjoyed it!
As a vegan, I would love to know exactly what foods and/or protein powders I should be focusing on.

I’ve been drinking a hyluronized liquid collagen for two years and it is wonderful to here you validate what I already practice.❤
What brand do you use? Does it taste alright? Thanks!
What brand?
Thank you Doc. The best explanation ever. Now I know a lot about collagen, I always wondered about it. Thanks again Doc for breaking it down so thoroughly.
Best informative video on collagen I've ever viewed. Thank you for sharing your excellent knowledge on this topic. 💙
I am waiting on my collagen. My nails and hair use to grow so fast. Now it's slow. Reading the comment's excite me. I can't wait. I take d3 plus k2 and eat nato. K2 stimulates collagen production. Its gonna be an amazing combination
Great tutorial- full of factual info and no hype, delivered with an authentic style- thank you
Me encantó la explicación. Gracias por tu honestidad. Gracias por el vídeo 👏👏👏
I've also heard that combining Turmeric supplements with the Vit. C & Collagen can be beneficial for joints and skin. 🤷I've been trying it, but too soon to tell
If you take turmeric add pepper to help absorb the Tumeric.

Sir, which collegen powder is better?
I've been taking the Dr. Axe collagen for almost 2 years. Huge difference in the quality and thickness of my hair.
I just discovered your channel. I'm a retired RN and appreciate your ability to teach clearly. The idea of facial surgery is terrifying as so many people look terrible. It is interesting to hear your explanations of why that is, as you did in the lip video. I'll be interested to discover your solutions to correct sun damage as well as decent SPF etc. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Thank you for the kind comment
@dramirkaram You're most welcome. So can the trifecta products actually fade out sun spots? I bought the SPF you recommended, but I'm not sure how the product will work. I have some retinol OTC products and hyaluronic moisturizers etc and some botanical and vit C. But nothing ever seems to do more than just sort of fade short of clearing fully. At over 200.00 a month, I'm just not wanting to end up no better off than Neutrogena stuff.
Oh well.

I'm glad it was helpful!
Thanks.
Thank you for this great video! You are a great teacher :) We appreciate how you take time to care so we can make informed decisions!!
😀
My rheumatologist had me start collagen for my RA.
It surprisingly made my wrinkles softer, helps my hair and my joints.
But not all collagen products are as good as each other.
The pills did nothing, the powder I get from Swanson is the good one, for myself.
Has helped my husband’s joint issues as well.
We put it in our morning smoothie along with protein powder. (Autoimmune issues make me malnourished at times, I need the protein powder per doctor.)
I also take fish oil for my RA, helps my skin and hair too.
Great to know it helps cardiovascular!
(I have heart conditions)
Great video!
Thanks! So glad you liked the video.
