I met him a couple of times, shook his hand and wished him the best of luck during the US OPen '03 and '06....it was like meeting a young Czar. He's striking!
Its hard to hear, seems like old memories just overflowed her mind "Marat was left in Spain by himself, not knowing the language and continued hard on his training.. His parents stayed in Moscow and worried about him.." and then his mom says: "Its hard to tell right now..." and starts crying
If you think only talent leads to 16 grand slams you're very mistaken. Safin had as much talent as fed but the reason fed was the greatest is because he excelled at all the other aspects of the game too, including mental fortitude, staying healthy, etc...
He was not never passionate about the sport , then no tactical mindset like fed and lack of proper lifestyle. No doubt one of the most intimidating opponent for everyone
@kyuubiyura he defeated Agassi when he was 18, Sampras in the 2000 US Open final, Federer in the 2005 Australian Open semi-final while Fed was on a 20+ games winning streak against top 10 players. When he played his best he outclasses everyone else.
I'm not sure how many players were able to beat both players. Agassi defeated both of them too : Federer in 2001's US Open (R16) and Sampras at the Australian Open (1995 and 2000) and at Roland Garros (QF in 1992).
that he was talented but capricious, it was difficult for her, as a mother, to train him (she is a tennis coach), so they sent him to study in Spain and missed him
@kyuubiyura watch the match for yourself.. i think most people would agree that he was at least as talented as federer and whoever you think is the most talented. he only got 2 gs cause he got injured too many times.
@kyuubiyura safin was not as consistent as federer due to the reasons the original guy you commented on said, but when they both were on fire safin would come up top. all i wanna say is that safin is just as bit as talented as fed and whoever you think is.
@stringerdude I knew it was a Russian phrase that didn't actually mean "Son of a bitch". I was just saying that it sounded like it in English. I was just being stupid. But thanks for the translation.

well he's always had that beautiful backhand
Man, do I miss seeing Marat on the tour. If only he never had those knee injuries :-(

Adorable, this guy is soooooo cute, i love him, thx for that.
Hermoso Marat ! Extraño mucho su tenis 😢..
love that backhand, still looks exactly the same.
awww, he's so cute!.. he's even more handsome than some teens in some Nickelodeon...guess the courts made his face look tougher through the years.

@@saz6950what do you mean by tactical mindset?

His groundstrokes look exactly the same.
aagh...how cute's that. the part at the end with the cup and all the photo's is soo funny=P
same awesome backhand.
He reminds me of Nanjirou Echizen. Ryoma's father in the anime, "Prince of Tennis".
i think i see the young Dinara Safina in the background here. is that her?
Considering that sampras is retired, if you stat is true, he will forever be the only one

Can any russian please translate what Marat's mother was saying as she weeps?
that he was talented but capricious, it was difficult for her, as a mother, to train him (she is a tennis coach), so they sent him to study in Spain and missed him
@kyuubiyura watch the match for yourself.. i think most people would agree that he was at least as talented as federer and whoever you think is the most talented. he only got 2 gs cause he got injured too many times.
Translation please, on what Marat and his mom was saying?
@captainspirou nope he says safin octayotcya camom obychnom parnem. It basically means he's just like a typical guy. Loves the beach, cars, etc.
is the kid dinara safina??(behind marat's mother while she is speaking)?!
chadygildy yes it's her. I used to practice with her in the same academy in Spain. So yes it's her you can see it from her style.
Cute XD :*
Because he left to valencia to practice tennis for several years without his parents.
hey mcfly! i thought i told you never to come in here!
@kyuubiyura safin was not as consistent as federer due to the reasons the original guy you commented on said, but when they both were on fire safin would come up top. all i wanna say is that safin is just as bit as talented as fed and whoever you think is.

Because tatars are considered Russians. Tatars is ethnicity not nationality
Isn't Dinara and Marat related. So it's possible.
14 years old? when Safin won the US Open he was 20 already.
He was 19
for me this guy could be the best tennis player , but his mind is soo bad :(
Why did that woman is cryin?? N why he is so sad ?! Lol
It's the tears of joy - her son just won US Open.🤷♀️
