I love how this game's conflict was caused because Peach agreeing to marry Bowser is so inherently wrong it creates a paradox that threatens to destroy all dimensions.
Imagine if Mario Odyssey ended with the literal all consuming void killing everyone and forever destroying their immortal souls. Would be a bit of tone shift I feel, but maybe that’s just me

Also walking through a post-apocalyptic world that YOU were too late to save? A world that you saw was brimming with history and people but gone in an instant? As you watch in the world’s last moments the people of that world lose hope and realize their imminent doom?
to this day, Dimentio has one of my favorite teleportation effects in all media. There's just something very satisfying about it, especially for something going between realities rather than just across space.
Also I love how the whole game you're seeing the villains meeting on little boxes suspended in the middle of this weird black void and when you get there you find out that the floor was like two inches out of frame the whole time.

The idea of bowser peach wedding bringing the apocalypse really does add a new sense of urgency to Mario odyssey
52:40 The reason Dimentio deals so little damage even though his attack is 256 times stronger is not because his original damage is so weak, but x256 causes the stats to overflow in computer language and return his attack to x1.
That would be a cool reference, but the game explains how Dimension D strengthens everyone inside it. Both Dimentio and the heroes become 256 times stronger, cancelling each other out. The dialogue explaining this appears after beating Dimentio for the first time, but the video cuts it out.

Taking this game into account, had Bowser succeeded in marrying Peach in Oddysey, it would have brought about the end of reality.

@@sinteleon The first three games emphasize that the aesthetics is an art style rather than the reality of the world, where if you translate them to 3D storytelling, it still works - not so much for the later ones, as they are more like crafted world (ala Lego Movie) that doesn't seem to fit the Mario worldbuilding as well.
I'd just assume the curse is gone after the Chaos Heart got destroyed so I think Bowser is fine to marry Peach now hehe.
Man, games like this really make me wish Nintendo hadn’t decided to start limiting original characters for these games. Francis is hilarious, and Blumiere and Timpani’s story is so compelling, a storyline like this is so much more enthralling than “go stop the origami man and his *evil* stapler”
While I don't hate Miyamoto, (He deserves some respect) I simply can't forgive him for what he did to the Paper Mario games.

i honestly love Dimentio, he saves peach from being brainwashed because he needed all 4 heroes to enact the dark prognosticus, sends all 3 of the guys to the underwhere to fix the pure heart, makes luigi upset so they have a one on one to get him ready for the final fight, comes in after count bleck has his fight and they used the pure hearts on the weaker villain, hell, he even had a plan B incase his initial plan were to somehow fail, god Dimentio is amazing character design
This game somehow feels like complete fan-fiction, but it isn't, and I love it. The story of Count Blumiere and Lady Timpani was really sweet, and Count Bleck's evil gang being friends was also really sweet. Peach and Bowser get some great character moments. And everything else is just pure memes. This game is the whole package. Thank you RT for showing me this lovely game

Fun fact: there are certain Pixls where it’s possible to skip them using glitches, but the devs actually programmed another failsafe. If you manage to skip obtaining a Pixl, the game will add a text box saying “X heard about your adventures and joined your party.” And Slim is a skippable Pixl. The devs really wanted to make sure you had Slim in your party lol

I love how this game wasn’t afraid to get dark, it also implied that our world was one of the worlds that would get destroyed and that is really intense for a Mario game. Also the amount of lore you can find in the post game is astonishing. Also the game just gets WEIRD
Expecially with the bartenders, they help you understand the lore better and tell you things you couldn't know otherwise.

As much hate as this game gets for not being “Paper Mario” on its own it’s a really good game. The story is great the characters are great and the power ups are great. I grew up with this paper Mario, so I may be bias but this game doesn’t have to be an rpg. This is just Mario in the form of paper not Mario in the form of paper in an rpg
This game doesn’t get nearly as much hate as you think it does. In fact most older fans love this game! It may have been controversial at launch but so was Luigis mansion and wind waker and those games are classics!
The one that gets the most hate has to be Sticker Star (also for reason of not being an rpg) and not Super Paper Mario
The only hate I see it gets outside of the people who hate it because it’s not TTYD or the original paper Mario is that it’s too easy. If we ever get a remake of this either nerfing bowser or making the bosses like 4x harder would probably silence 90% of the people who dislike this game

We need to cut back to Luigi saying "Okie Dokey" whenever RT is playing a serious game and the plot starts to get heavy. Luigi keeps us grounded.

The reason Bleck always talks in 3rd person and narrates his actions reiterating his own name is because he's a character in a book who red his own story. It changed his name and he's dissociated from his own actions because he's no longer a free will agent. Everything he says or does he's saying or doing because that's what the book says he does.

He's narrating his role in the prophecy and is completely disillusioned to actually play the character, because there is no character, because he has no free will, so he's reading the stage directions from the script.

I’m surprised that after so many times Peach got kidnapped, Mario doesn’t live in her castle to keep her safe, lmao. Like, is he not paranoid every single day? Even Luigi shares a house with him I mean, they are brothers and he’s the only canonically related member of his family but, I’m pretty sure besides that, since Luigi has gotten kidnapped quite a few times as well, he feels safer knowing that he can see immediately him everyday.
Maybe Mario is exhausted from constant adventuring so him not being at Peach’s beck and call is him not caring because saving Peach is his job.

Just because it’s not an rpg like the first paper Mario or ttyd, doesn’t make the gameplay bad. This is personally my favorite paper Mario game.

There are just too many things to mention in this game that you wouldn’t even expect from old school paper mario story telling.

I had no idea Princess Peach could be so sassy. She had absolutely no time for Francis's shit, got dam.

It's really weird but Peachs character at the time flip-flopped between the standard damsel in distress and a smack-talking adventure queen wielding powerful magic (in Strikers she was just straight up a diva).
Which makes her still being kidnapped to this day just confusing to me, she could easily kick Bowsers ass or just bully him out of his own castle.
I honestly wish they'd bring that side of her back and show more of her actually ruling the kingdom.

I hadn’t realized that until a few months ago, that is such a well hidden but in the middle of the open detail
I remember reading the Super Paper Mario strategy guide and being taught that Bowser + Carrie were a great team since that Pixl allows Bowser to breathe fire in the air.
Also, Barry is great against ranged enemies since he can deflect attacks back at them... and just be used as a shield against regular attacks/bumping into folks.
I remember as a kid getting this game on accident. I wanted to get Mario Galaxy but when I pointed at game I wanted the worker at Walmart thought I wanted Paper Mario instead and it felt rude to ask for Galaxy instead so I just dealt with it
I love hoe this story handles a prophecy. In other stories with a prophecy where "the hero is destined to defeat the evil" it kind of lowers the stakes a bit if said prophecy is treated as 100% true. But this story has two prophecies, one where good wins and one where evil wins. That way, it becomes a battle to make one prophecy true, and I think that's very cool.

That's a really nice way to handle prophecy-type plot points, reminds me a bit of how stuff like Steins;Gate (variable timelines with fixed events each) or the Thoth fights in Jojo (unavoidable predictions that are prone to misinterpretation) manages similar tropes of predestination to preserve tension
The Dark Prognosticus was the only "true" prophesy. It stated what *would* happen: the destruction of hope and everything else.
The Light Prognosticus was created to *counteract* the DP, in a "What Could Happen, Hopefully* sort of way. *Hopefully* the events of the LP come to fruition. *hopefully* mario shows up. *hopefully* Mario and Co. Find the Pure Hearts and defeats the Chaos Heart.
and yeah, this IS a pretty cool way to counteract the tension-lowering part of having a prophecy-based storyline.
