SCP-5853 are packaged taffy confections. Each package of SCP 5853 contains two candies: one blue - raspberry flavored, and one red - cherry flavored. While the blue candy has thus far shown no anomalous effects, any individual who consumes the red SCP5853 , after reciting the key phrase, will be transported to an extra-dimensional space. This space coincides with the features of “Ticky Taffy Town”, henceforth referred to as “SCP-5853-A”, a 90's era television program that advertised SCP-5853 prominently.
The anomaly was brought to the attention of the Foundation by way of the UIU, who had become aware of an apparent correlation between disappearances of children and the airing of SCP-5853-A. SCP-5853 is theorized to be responsible for the disappearances of an estimated 3500 people between the years 1994-1999

Absolutely agree. I kinda hoped they'd send in another D-Class to record what happens if they're thrown into the mirror in classic SCP fashion before an MTF even had a chance to be approved, though
(It'd also be fun to imagine a full assault force being sent into it, fighting off the entities for days. But that's not really the SCP style. At least not for this fairly low of a threat)

They are not written in stone. They are not laws of physics. They're just a list of things we're okay with doing, and they update accordingly.
The facial animations of the girl being thrown into the mirror, and mr Hister posing as Jessie becoming more distorted was honestly the most terrifying thing I've ever seen.

And the Doctor finds yet another good one buried in attempted god-level threats, a real horror coming in an innocuous package. Absolutely showing that even if it's labeled Safe, it's still potentially the worst thing ever.
The out of left field god level super Keter reality warping crazy pants threats really do get old. Sometimes I get the impression that people invent new classifications and super threats just to one up other writers. Remember when a Black Big Rig Semi-tractor trailer that just wanted to haul butt across the highway and would occasionally accidentally run people off the road, only to repay them with some amount of money that would easily recoup the damages was considered a 'keter' class SCP? Pepridge Farms remembers...

And then you have something that's rather smartly woven, "Mr. Histur" very likely being direct reference to Old One Hastur, working very much in their whole shtick of "If you just ignored it, you'd have been fine" type of self-dooming actions; yes the object itself is totally not coming after you, but curiosity will lead to it destroying you. That's the SCP optimized vibe, imo.
@@gearsoverdusk7303 But it isn't doing anything that would suggest god level super threat. It's just collecting children. For reasons that are unknown in ways that are unusual. It is merely existing in its own contained world, repeating it. I like how both SCP can have chill SCP like one of my favorites, the guy that just appears to offer those dying alone a cigar and keeps them company, than there is also this, which is uncomfortable in way that isn't clear. Simply don't attack it and keep others away and it isn't a threat. Not really a super god level threat.

I was more responding to Essrayle's comment about how well woven 5853 was as a creepy anomaly that preyed upon the concept of old children's shows. It's much better written than other SCP's that are boring power creep 'someone made this super powerful scp so I gotta have one that's better' or how some scp's are just unimaginative god level threats that no one could stop, much less contain. Those were the ones I was referring to.

I don't want to be pedantic but "the king in yellow" was actually an inspiration of Lovecraft. It was a short story and anthology of short stories by Robert W. Chambers. Later authors who built on Lovecraft used a character from the dream cycle who was a 'king' of sorts in a yellow robe and joined the two as Hastur.

Fun fact: The original writing of this SCP involved two GOIs: The Vikander Kneed Technology Media, as well as sarkics (marking possible connection since it mentioned "flesh" many times), but the author deleted such references, you can find the reason in the discussion section

@@amberkat8147 VKTM isn't really a big bad, but I do agree it'd be out of character for them to be behind this SCP. From what I understand, they think they're doing the right thing with their SCPs, but Hister is delusional even by their standards. Not to mention, the last time they contracted an eldritch humanoid for something, there wasn't a body count.
My main takeaway is how ABYSSMALLY that MTF was briefed. As long as you know how it works it presents no direct danger, but they didnt even know how to exfil until after they'd cocked it up.
Done right you should be able to "easily" send people in to coach any other victims on how to escape
What did you want them to do? There are over 30 potential phrases. Granted, you COULD spend lives to be figuring out the lessons and then identify which phrases line up with which houses; though do you really think Mr. Hister or the other denizens will let that happen?
It was an off-the-books, hasty MTF anyway.

The fact that there's another "Bobble entity" within another SCP related tv show implies essentially 2 things:
Either SCP 993 was a product of Mr.Hister gone rogue or the latter was inspired by SCP 993 to make his own anomalous show
What type of sane kid says “ flesh is not the truth”

I have been watching a whole bunch of Dr. Bob’s videos over the last week, so imagine my surprise when I see how recent this one is

Genuinely got a super creepy vibe off this, probably because we all grew up watching things similar to this kind of thing... whether it be Barney, or Fraggle Rock, or the Muppets, or *something* and just twisting it into something... off putting. Dr Bob, you're genuinely my favorite SCP video creator out there for bringing to life the obscure SCP's that get buried under the latest reality bending super god threat that someone pulled out of their butt to one up the other reality bending super god threats on the Wiki.
It's the Stories, not just the details of the SCP themselves, but the stories attached and the colorful way the details are framed that are just amazing!

Tbh the trope of evil kids cartoon is done way too often, i really recommend angel hare on that btw, it's a very wholesome twist on the whole haunted cartoon trope
So basically Mister Hister is Hastur, the King in Yellow - and the ... half-brother or cousin (?) of Cthulhu. I like it when other creators include HP Lovecrafts creations, since these are public domain.

Hisstur is Hastur. Easy way to defeat him, is to get his half-brother involved. Cthulhu. They can't stand each other and are openly hostile. Ofc How to get Cthulhu into Hastur's realm and the ramifications of walking up squidhead outweighs the benefits.
I don't think it's a wise idea to wake up Cthulhu, especially since the world comes to an end.

my theory is, that when the children enter the mirror, they became scp-5853 entities, thats why at the end, the names multiply.
You take the blue candy, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red candy, you travel to Wonderland, and It will show you whats is on the other side of mirror

Yeees I love these kinds of episodes! I've been waiting so long for a new vid actually discussing an SCP we haven't seen before, and this was even better than I anticipated. Honestly, Dr. Bob's videos are so engaging that none of them feel nearly as long as they actually are. You could tell me this was only 5 minutes and I'd believe you because unlike a lot of channels, it doesn't lag in interest or drag on unnecessarily. It's the best combination of informative speaking and storytelling and I'm so grateful for this channel.

I think that the black mirror transforms the kids into the cast of the show. It explains why there are so many of them. Depending on what lesson they chose to speak, they are transformed into whatever being told them that lesson.

6096 terrified me, and When Day Breaks has always been in the back of my head, but holy shit, something about this one, whether the actual anomaly or the video style, has been the first one to give me actual chills, and not in a good way. Great job Doc.

I don't understand how the claws of a funky cartoon cat can cut through the armour of an MTF member which is probably a lot thicker and stronger than normal bulletproof armour because they work at the scp foundation.
This is like a mix of the Grimace shake, Amanda the Adventurer, and the Matrix all in 1 but instead of pills it's taffy

I definitely did not know the SCP foundation had ethicists. I'm assuming they're just there for optics or they never speak up or they're just not very good at their job lol... SCP ethicists.. That's kind of like an oxymoron.. But this is one of the better episodes. The SCP world/story needs to be a movie/series of movies and/or a TV series - animated and/or live action.
Ethics Committee is up there and if not on par, in some canons, with the power of the O5 council. Both only answering to the Administrator.
Gotta love that the king in yellow looked at Lazy town and said “yes, we’re doing this, let’s do exactly that but with more murder”

I actually remember watching the old ticky taffy town shows when I was younger. Sadly it was only called Taffy Town but had the same characters in it. I found the show very funny but I never saw Mr.Hister. I do remember a character about 7 foot and 3 inches tall wearing the yellow robe like thing though.
