Two slain officers lie in pools of blood on the street. There's no pattern to the killings and police are confused and scared. Only after gunshots splatter his partner across a back alley and Detective Lon McQ himself narrowly escapes death does the bloody rampage make sense. Now McQ knows whom to go after. John Wayne thunderously enforces the law in a high-velocity thriller that's like a big-city revenge Western on wheels. Directed by action master John Sturges (The Great Escape, The Magnificent Seven).
Directed By John Sturges
Starring John Wayne, Eddie Albert, Diana Muldaur

Oh Lord have mercy, just to hear his voice again - wow. Pulls at my heart.
watchgoose John Wayne was an American patriot, and a man’s man!
Back in the day when men were men and young men had a role model and not home living in the mothers basement.
yes, as he was dodging the draft, na real life coward and sneak
I love the way that guy speaks, I don't want to get involved. Greatest speaking line in movie history
It isnt hard to find a movie with him in it. Stop acting like he's your close friend. Lol!
Once again the Duke proves true the old saying "It doesn't matter how many times you shoot your weapon, it only matters how many times you hit your target".
The chilly witness "Hey look I don't want to be involved!" McQ "you already are !" Direct, precise and strictly exact answer from McQ
I wish he would have lived longer to make more McQ movies!!....💯💯...Miss him!!
"I saw you shoot him"
"Before that?"
"I saw him blasting away at you"
"G O O D"
God bless the Duke.. miss him..
@ME He's closer to God than you'll ever get!!! Still voting for the senile crooked Biden ????
@ME You rotten bum, talking about the Duke like that. Shameful.
@ME Have some respect!
You like men who shoot people in the back while they are running away because you'd do the same, except you lack the guts even for that.
Sun Wukong Except the guy was a hitman who just emptied an entire magazine at him only moments before, intending to murder him. You think that perhaps he should have talked to him politely to turn himself in while buying him a coffee? Are you an MSNBC anchor?
67 when the duke made this film fabulous actor and the older he got the better he was ❤❤
Superb comment John Wayne was one of the greats....superb actor 👍😁 along with steve McQueen
Rest in peace big Man 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
The Duke, American Icon, Classy, respectful, gentlemen, stand up guy, and hero to many generations; he is greatly missed.
Draft dodger who hid behind his family while others fought
I watch this movie all the time. It is one of my all time favorites. It is cool watching John Wayne cruising around in his 1973 Green Trans Am. That car is BADASS! It hurts watching it get destroyed in the film. A true classic car.
Brewster Green, absolutely gorgeous Car
This film is so good. The only reason it's as underrated as it is is that people compare it to dirty Harry. Same as John Wayne's other film, brannigan.
@@bethanyturner335same legendary studio that did Dirty Harry.
I love this man he is my hero 💕💕
AIRPORT STAYS THE JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT...we all have had ENOUGH of this crap..THIS MAN IS A LEGEND and earned it!
@mike fromuniontown
Um...exactly how did he "earn" it? By being an over rated actor? News flash cowboy: John Wayne did not win the war or win the west. He was a draft-dodging coward who never served in the military even when we were at war. He and that asshole Hedda Hopper were directly responsible for ruining hundreds of careers by smearing loyal Americans with the name "communist". His fake hyper patriotism made me sick; he was nothing but a racist hypocrite.
@@wijr77 You are so full of shit. The US government would not let him enlist. He tried several times, They thought he was of more value making movies. Look it up dip shit.
@@markvineyard9831 You look it up dipshit! There's no evidence of that whatsoever. He didn't want to serve his country because he was a coward who was too busy making movies and fucking Marlene Dietrich to do what REAL men like Clark Gable and Jimmy Stewart did. Which was to stop talking and join the military.
@@wijr77 don't be nasty. It's too easy to report comments like this and have them removed. You were NOT inside his head and do NOT know what he was thinking or if he was . P.S you got that bad info from an article regarding a book someone wrote (it's online) and that's just one person's opinion, not fact. Anyone can say anything like you just did. He got a 3A deferment because he had FOUR kids that needed him at home. He also wrote John Ford and asked the best way to "get in" and could (Ford) get him assigned to his unit. So yeah, YOU look it up. You need an education in manners. Too bad your parents didn't give you one - or maybe you just ignored them.
@@watchgoose My parents gave me excellent advice: ignore morons. There is no evidence (none!) that any such letter to John Ford ever existed. That story was put forth years later by John Wayne apologists trying to cover up for him. And yes he was 3A at the beginning of the war, but by the middle of the war he was fully eligible! And still refused to serve! And they can delete my comments all they like -- it's become SOP in Trump's America to ignore any truth that you don't like; why should CZcams be any different? And YOU should shut the fuck up until you know what you're talking about!
I loved these movies. The Duke was getting old and the critics whined but he was still a bad ass. There's just something gritty and "good vs evil" about them.
"i don't want to get involved." "you already are" - I had that conversation with a detective, once. it was life changing. (for me and a young man who is now like a son to me). If you feel the urge to not get involved...jump in! it might save a life.
wonderful film and fine acting - wish Wayne could have done a lot more in this genre - the Blu Ray should be very nice
@Joseph Henderson He did more than he could,Yeah right🙄Wayne could out act any of these Alleged BS actors we have now and that's a FACT!🤬
I have the blu ray I bought it 1 year ago or so. I love the movie, and also Brannigan.
He actually did a second part of it, Brannigan.
The Duke should have been in Star Wars as Darth Vader. Can you see Darth Vader with John Wayne's walk ? lol !
The Duke was 67 here but still tough and not taking crap from anyone.
40+ years after the mans death, assholes are still trying to knock the man down. That shows you what a LEGEND John Wayne is. When your the best, people will always come after you. It’s convenient for the nay sayers, in that he can’t defend himself....
The GREATEST 🇺🇸 AMERICAN 🇺🇸 to EVER live. My favorite 🇺🇸 Actor and HERO 🇺🇸 John Wayne 🇺🇸 💯🇺🇸💪 Long live 🇺🇸 The DUKE 🇺🇸 Gone but WILL NEVER Be FORGOTTEN!!!!

@@Ghastly_Grinner: And it is Warner, too.
Nah, that's been the standard gun sound used by Warner through the 60s-70s.

They gave McQ the Harry Callaghan goodguy .44 magnum gunshot sound effect!
Back in the day when men were men, and women were damn glad of it!
Not at all there were already feminist movement in the 70s, and rights (marxist) movement before that, and there was a lot of polemic in the Tvs back in the day with John Wayne, because he was a rightist. Nothing better then 70’s gunshot sounds affects lol
Fastest response by cops ever
Cops always seemed to show up fast whenever I got in trouble
He learned to shoot like that from his cowboy days.
After the shot, looked like he was handling that revolver like he handled his single action in his westerns... hahaha... R.I.P., "Duke"
-Hell of a shot mister!
Back when the Camera let the actors do their work instead of dancing all over the fucking frame like they do now.
I take it I'm not the only one who got this as a recommendation thanks CZcams
All the years that The Duke wore a hair piece. Wow! They did a good job with it and I know he hated wearing it.
The co-stars and the music make this one for me. "Bumped his knee on a chair,"
"I don't wanna get involved...you already are.' there you go.....
may as well be in New York...same excuse!!!!
The kid trying to rip of McQ's car was in my senior class of 74' at Glacier High School at the time this was filmed. Seattle was a nice place back then... although the economy was severely depressed because Boeing came close to going under. The 747 turned things around for Boeing and Seattle at the time. Seattle now is a cesspool with the homeless setting up camps everywhere - tents on the sidewalks right in front businesses.
That police response time though...
The Duke don't miss!!
I love the old woodies in the marina.
Damn his Firebird is beautiful
Nice Elco yacht at the dock.....
1:07 Cowboy John Wayne would have made that shot one eyed and one handed.
from the hip ;
On a moving horse!
After racking his Winchester by twirling it around by the lever.
I found out that the KGB actually sent out hit men to take out the Duke. Pretty amazing story.
I haven’t seen this movie since it came out at the big screen. Guess I’m gonna have to go find a copy.
Fun fact John Wayne dealt with real life hitmen on at least two separate occasions
Fun fact he was a draft dodger who used his family as an excuse
@@seymourskinner2533 fake news he suffered an injury of the shoulder playing football on the beach when he was young that disqualified him from service

Between this and the MAC-10 scene in the gun shop, a buncha garbage cans took a real hurtin' for this movie.
The old steel garbage cans could take a hit and give it a hit more than we realize this day and age
"No fella takes out The Duke unless it's for a mess of brewskis, pilgrim."
I am watching this at another Marina, less than a mile from where this was filmed. I can see a bit of the Fremont Marina from here.
Amazing man, Amazing car.
Simply the greatest actor to ever grace the silver screen.
No one moved, spoke or filled the screen with his presence like the Duke.
R.I.P John Wayne ❤
AWESOME! @ 1:07
People berate the revolver & really shouldn't as it cannot be beat for sheer accuracy for bumping off a bad guy trying to ruin your day.
Cool.
Damn good shot.
One shot ... one hit . That must be Hickok45 ...
He shot a man in the back who was running away from him. It's a good thing the guy wasn't black. The city would be burning.
He shot at a guy who shot at him
@@callofthewillman4469 the circumstances surrounding the shooting don't matter. Only the color of the victim matters.
c'mon man! mostly peaceful protesting....de-fund John Wayne!
Good fleeing felon shoot!
Dont worry he was white so it doesn't matter.
The DUKE shot that HITMAN with a SMITH and Wesson 357 4 inch barrel at 100 yards only him or Clint Eastwood could do that in a movie
Hell, anyone can do it in a movie. But who can really do it in reality? I doubt anyone can. But since that shot was barely 50 yards, not 100, I suppose that makes it a bit more believable.
Good shooting 😃
That looked like The Wild Goose in the background.
The Duke was obviously up in the age in this film as a Sr. Detective, so if the movie had shown a earlier retro photo of him as a Neighborhood Beat police officer, then the years would have been during the 1930's-1940s', which is Fred McMurrary (or Humphery Bogart gangster days) police officer film days.
John Wayne was 66 during filming and died in 79 at age 72 just 5 years after this movie was released in 74. Most police officers retire in late 50s to age 62. I have seen many officers where I live in Minnesota retire by age 57.
@@scottknode898 that’s a tough 66

THE DUKE!! KING BILLY! WHO CAN FORGET JOHN WAYNE?
@0:54 That bin had one day left til retirement....😪🕯
He hates these cans! Stay away from the cans!!
These cans are defective!
Not a world-class actor. But he molded the American concept.
Everyone, everywhere on this planet, knows who John Wayne is. You have top notch actors such as Michael Caine who said John Wayne changed his career for the better. So yeah, the Duke is world class. His movies, are still re-watchable to this day, you can't say the same about stuff that came out in the early 2000's.
Badass 'bird he drives.
Excellent movie just like another one he did called Brannigan. Some say the movie is corny and the plot too obvious I think it is a great movie a lot of skilled old pros doing what they do best
John Wayne time-traveled from 1880 to 1974 to stop a Terminator from taking out his great grand-daughter.
Great trans am car he drives though. The Duke himself drives a badass beast like the Pontiac Trans AM.
You can't say that a shot like that is impossible. However, what is almost assuredly the true is all the little mistakes you couldn't avoid cancelled each other out.
I love the music
I never was a cowboy guy. I always like the Duke as a cop or a soldier or a retired boxer looking for peace.
I watched In Harm's Way. Long but good
Before Clint we had The Duke!
What an amazing shot, I'm sure the bullet must zigzagged between the scaffoldings...
nah, just right along side 'em, easy shot
The magic bullet!!!.
Take a look again but look before you have too much to drink.
The Duke is too the left of the scaffolding.
The Duke aims ahead of his target where the scaffolding ends and sends the projectile to the target and the target drops ... past the end of the scaffolding. The bullet flew to the left of the scaffolding the whole time and if the Duke were here he would confirm this.
nice Pontiac Firebird Formula 455
No, a 1973 Trans Am with the standard L75 455.
netrioter it’s a trans am the hood scoop is the Id item
Has the shaker hood scoop which could be a Trans am or Formula 455 if an SD but the wheel spoilers and fender air reliefs make it a Trans am for sure. Could have a 455 or 400.
Hell of a shot with a pistol.
It's hilarious that in films they can turn a dead body over with one foot, imagine having that strength in reality, try turning 10 kilos dead weight over with your foot, and you'll know how it feels, never mind 80 plus. That's the movies!
It was a close call for the best actor in this film........Wayne or his wig.
I want that car.
It's a 1973 Trans Am in Brewster Green. I have a Buccaneer Red one with a 455 4-Speed which I've owned for 35 years. I always preferred the green but there aren't many to choose from these days. They only came in Cameo White, Buccaneer Red and Brewster Green that year, and they all had 455 C.I.D. engines. The best of the lot were the 455SD cars.
The Music is bad ass
Chase you? The Duke don't play that way.
I really miss the Duke in this troubled times we currently live in....
Why? He never actually fought for anything beyond a pay rise
McQ 2 is BRANNIGAN.
Those pickup campers (0:45) haven’t moved to this day (May 2023) Still at 1000 North Northlake Boulevard.
And to Think a "Marrion" shot with a 44 magnum
That shot was a little hard to believe.
Not to mention, back in the day people knew what sex they were.
He would back then too. You can’t claim it was self defense if you shoot someone in the back as they’re running away, ten seconds after their attack ended. You’re only rooting for this guy cus it’s the Duke. Any other person you’d rightfully say it’s murder... or at least if you have any sense
People do now. They also know what gender they are. And that confuses and upsets you because you don't know the difference. Keep up or accept your time is passed.
@@redram5150 Even in flight, the assassin represented an immediate threat of death or serious bodily injury to anyone he encountered. Deadly force justified. Court adjourned.
You would think there would be a video here for me to watch, after 4 years. :/
1:01 That boat is from Wisconsin.
LOL! No it's not, ya landlubber: "WN" is the prefix for boat registrations in the state of Washington. Wisconsin registrations start with "WS."
Note also the boat at 2:00 that also has a "WN" number. And the one on the other side of the dock from your boat at 1:01 that has an "AK" (Alaska) registration. This scene was actually filmed in Seattle, on the ship canal / Lake Union near Freemont.
@DOUG HEINS Yep, exactly where I said.
Лучше Джона просто нет !
No recoil when he fire his pistol....lol
...it's not the pistol, or the one who pulls the trigger that decides the fate of the target...it's " proximity ". Remember that .
Actually is is a combination of all of the above. Proximity can't hold and aim a gun and it sure as Hell can't pull a trigger.
I never got to see this movie. Is it any good?
Yes
no
It depends. If you liked the Dirty Harry series of movies, you'll like this one two. The movie is more than a violent action show. It's a fairly good who-done-it, too. It's also a good time capsule. Society in the late 60s and early 70s was going through an upheaval. That unrest motivates some of what goes on in the movie. (It's NOT the focus of the movie. This is an action/mystery flck; it's not social commentary.)
When the Dukes in town the criminals Run
Hit men trying to take the Duke ? As they say in chess "bad move".
everyone lived on the docs in the 70s
Diamondback or Python?
Ah Yes.....Seattle when you could shoot the bad guys. Bring back those days
Wow! He shot someone in the back!
So? That would be the guy that was just shooting at him.
Was a shot like that even possible?
Well you saw it with your own eyes, so it MUST be possible.
I reckon the car thief was a distraction for the hit man as Mc Q would have been more focussed on the kid trying to steal his car than the hitman, who could have easily gunned down McQ if he didn't turn round.
