    The beautiful thing about CZcams (and the Web) is that it is 'forever'.
    This set of videos has been just what I have been looking for. As an experienced modeler (ages ago and in plastic) I have feared this jump. The kits are so expensive and so hard to get that any mistake is critical. Actually watching you walk though the build has helped my confidence quite a bit - especially the section in this video where you repair a part.
    Many thanks

    I really enjoyed this. You have inspired me to give this branch of the hobby a shot and I never considered tackling a kit loco before!

    Good Afternoon Tom. Just wondering when the next part of the build will be forthcoming. Your videos are so informative and looking forward to the next. Cheers, David

    That tender looks the part.
    I tried the repair method for white metal previously myself.
    145°C solder works equally well with this technique, but reduces the risk of destroying your repair when soldering close to it compared to low melt solder.
    Where I have to repair real big gaps I even use white metal off cuts to 'weld' the hole shut, the iron at 240°C, but this method needs some caution and can only be used at large parts with no fine detail next to the repair.
    I could see some white residue on the tender top, this could be flux being allowed to dry in?
    My advice is to avoid this, as the flux already has started to corrode into the metal, and it's more difficult to clean this area now.
    I have a little pot with a cleaning soda solution and brush this over the solder joints I have made after every couple of joints, it neutralizes the acid in the flux and can be rinsed off under mild warm tap water with a stiff brush, like an old tooth brush (I use my old electric tooth brush, it gets in every little corner)

    I would like to try kit building but it looks a bit too hard at the moment

      It's not as hard as it may look. I'll be doing a 'tools required' video soon so keep your eyes peeled.

    Fantastic work so far, currently working on the PDK LNER P1, I'm just waiting for wheels and a few extra's to arrive. I do have a question, I looked to see if DJH still produces this kit and it appears to not be on sale anymore, so I'm wondering if it's just off the shelves while they re-tool it or if it's totally discontinued. Thanks

      Hi, I believe it's totally discontinued. Possibly registering your interest direct with DJH may help? It's a good kit!

    Good video content. Lose the annoying music. Your narration gets blended/lost within it!

    • @cb01ttr
      @cb01ttr  Před rokem

      The video is of its time. But if I were to make a new one, I wouldn’t put music in it, as I agree it can get annoying. But glad you liked the content.
