Best track on the album.
Definitely the best. It needed to grow on me a little at first, but holy shit is it good.
That and Pnuema
Eeeaasy. Descending is amazing.
Descending has so many layers I love it! Lyrics are exceptional as well!
Absolutely. Musical genius this track
Very well explained, bud. I think you're the only guy for whom I would watch a 30 minute lesson. It's also just nice to listen to you explaining stuff. Keep up the good work :)
Thanks Max! Much appreciated.
love to zee yov two zhowin each other love
I love the irony of the name of this track. Descending. Yet the song ascends throughout its duration. Just a brilliantly written piece.
That’s the point . What do you do when you feel your self slipping away . Do you lay there and await the inevitable. Or , do you stand ..do you rise..
2:32... will never get old.... goosebumps everytime - Adam KILLED IT. THE MAN IS A WIZARD
So true! I get so emotional to that part, as for the whole song! I love Adam.
Amazing work sir! The last 5 minutes of Descending are just dirty, I love it.
Thank you! Lots of guitar in this track.
18:50 my favourite moment right here
Your channel is amazing and super underrated! Can't wait for 7empest
Thank you!
Descending is my favorite track on Fear. I love the album. Its stunning, stunning, stunning. But this song is perfection. I'm not a musician, so it's so awesome to see how this masterpiece is played.
There is nobody else I would want to learn Tool songs from.
One of the only channels I turn off ad-block and refresh for - because that is the very least I can do for a 30 minute guitar lesson! Nice work as always!
So happy you covered those last two chords! Not that I don't love the rest of the song but that little part at the end always spoke to me and yet I've seen people post covers not playing it. Good to finally know the theory behind it.
Plus is a cool resolve to a Major sound (when ascending out of the water).
I dont play guitar or know anything about playing it, but this was still entertaining to watch!
Wow, you're the first person on youtube I think to include the variation at 8:58. NIce work
Seriously, support Axe of Creation on Patreon. If you do the $1 option & live another 30 years it'll only be $360. I'd say that's a pretty good deal for all the content.
Great video, as a relative beginner, you're my go to for Tool songs. This was my 10th song I've learned from you. Tool is so fun to play.
You broke down the last part of the solo perfectly. I’ve been struggling for like two weeks now. Trying this as soon as I get home. 😂
I hope you get loads of likes for this because the amount of work you put into this 30 minute video really deserves it.
I love this song. Glad you're covering all of these tracks, good work!
I can’t thank you enough for all your TOOL lessons. I’m nearly two years into playing/learning guitar and you make it so understandable with all your knowledge and ability to translate. Thanks for being here and sharing your Skills and craftsmanship.
Thank you, thank you. Been dying for your lesson on this one. Can't wait to dive in🤘
Have the choice of different playback speeds is a god send! Your teaching is great. I can happily watch you teach for hours!
Awesome! Thank you for taking the time to put this together for us.
Bro Ive been watching your videos for the past 2years learning by memorization, but over the last 2months actually taking the time to learn the guitar this is a whole new experience, you are a great teacher and who else is teaching others to learn songs like this? Not many dude, you're blessing love your energy💯🙌
Been waiting this for ages! Can't wait to dig in! Thanks man!
PS How does anyone dislike this!? WTF!?
youre the best guitar teacher on the internet dude. Ive seen so many of your videos over the years and you've been very helpful in helping me play better. Thank you. Keep inspiring man!
Thank you for your kind words. It means a lot that my lessons resonate with you.
Man you didn't just make my day, oh no, you made this one life period of mine. I'm not that good and I can only play the intro so far, but I could play this all day long with some deep reverb and delay, which really sucks me in. Thank you so much! All the best from Frankfurt/Germany
You are the best of all the guitar lesson vids.
Please know that a lot of us greatly appreciate the time you take!
Sounds superb!! Great job!
Thanks to Greg, around 56k people can play Descending 😉how rad would it be to hear all those people playing Descending at the same time 🤘
Thank you so much! I recently saw Tool play Descending live and have wanted to learn it since. This video was great and really helped.
Been waiting to see this. Awesome!
About time. I already had most of it down, but I'm sure this will reveal some of my shortfalls. Thanks
Every Tool song from Fear Inoculum that I have learned has been from your tutorials. We appreciate you very much
Love you'r lessons. Thank you very much!
thanks so much for this! i just paused the video to say ; the inlays on that guitar are SICK! so beautiful :)
Solo part starts at 20:30!
Watching you play through all of these has been fun. I haven't even picked up the guitar to try it yet, plan to some starting tomorrow... I doubt I'm good enough to even get close, but you make it super easy to want to try.
This is awesome! Thank you!
You are the man Greg! Thank you!
Hey, thank you for taking the time to do this entire amazing album
Been waiting for this thank you 🎸🎸🎵
Thanks, brother. I am supporting you
Hello Gregg, hey we have missed you bro! It seems you haven't uploaded a new vid in 3 weeks or possibly a month. I subscribe to many of the guitar gear guys, but you are by far and away my favorite instructional teacher on CZcams. I thought something bad had happened to you or you got burned out. Greg, please don't leave us hanging like that for that length of time again, you were missed big time my friend. By the way, you are the best guitar instructor on CZcams, you and Eller. After the Tool album is completed and you start new videos, could you possibly teach some Mastadon or Deftones or more Alice in Chains. Take care Greg. From a loyal subscriber. 🤘
I'm here! This time of year is always crazy. Transitioning jobs well, which has been fun. Will also leave me lots of time to make more videos!
@@axeofcreation Good, I'm very happy to hear this. Don't let transitioning to the new job get you stressed out. You'll acclomate in no time at all. Very glad to see you back my friend! 🤘
Thank you so much for your amazing work, I’m greatful to learn from you ❤️❤️🤟
Good lesson man! thank you!
I have been following this channel for yeeeaars...learned a lotta my favorite Tool songs and techniques from your tutorials.... you have NO IDEA how psyched I am to learn this song!!! Thank you SO much!!!
edit p.s.: I would just like to add that, as if it hadn't already been cemented BEFORE this album came out, your skills of audio-analysis to pick every minute detail of Jones' play is seriously god-tier.
seriously i thank you. u make dreams come true and are an amazing teacher!!! ❤️
best lessons on youtube hell yes!!
Thank you for this
After 2 hrs of practice, I finally got that fkn ghost note on the main riff.
Fantastic video!! Best Guitar channel on CZcams ! Thanks for sharing.. peAce
You nailed the tone
I REALLY ENJOY YOUR TOOL GUITAR TUTORIALS. COULD YOU PLEASE DO A FULL LESSON ON HOW TO PLAY THIRDEYE?!?!?!
Great tutorial man
Epic video! I haven’t finished it but I know it’s epic!
I don't comment a lot on these vids, but thanks again for your interpretation and making me progress as a guitar player. Sometimes it goes a bit quick for me, but thank god for the break and rewind functions, lol. Thanks man!
Awesome video, awesome channel! Started last night. Long way to go there's a lot in there!
I do the same flicking of the hand on the 3-0 verse part, it just sounds right and very Jones like
Thanks a lot! Can't wait for the Culling Voices vid, even if there is a lot to digest with this song.
Love this intro riff of Culling.
Holy hot damn that tone! Nice!
Good video keep up the good work please!!
2:36 at the end of the riff before it repeats I don't play the open 4th string at all. I put on a tape delay with the mix turned down and those pull offs sound killer.
I feel that way too when i listen to the original track
That’s how I play it too. I use the delay and it sounds so much better
Love this channel for tool songs, I was able to put together Vicarious because of this channel, still have issues at the end but not because of of these lessons...lol
Real nice job on these songs but I'm pretty sure that ghost note you're hearing is a delay, It's present through the entirety of the first two sequences.
Nice dynamics
Nice, bro!!!!! So dope!!!!
No bro, thank you!
thanks legend
Amazing track and awesome lesson dude
Plz do Intension lesson !
Fear Inoculum guitar tutorial - 18 Minutes
Pneuma guitar tutorial - 22 Minutes
Invincible guitar tutorial - 24 Minutes
Descending guitar tutorial - 30 Minutes
So I guess the 7empest tutorial will be like... Two days?
Probably!
@@axeofcreation Awesome, can't wait
@@axeofcreation that chug pattern you talk about at approximately 6 minutes into your lesson is I think one of the most difficult things to pick up in Jones playing. Of course he also has tons of variations in the loop style rythyms that he plays especially on this album which keep the fingers tripping all over each other. I feel like if intermediate players are trying to play those riffs and they can't get it exact, it would probably still sound ok as long as what they played has smoothness and good timing on the transitions. Your thoughts?
I also saw concert footage where Jones clearly plays the wrong notes in a song from their older album but the master professionals geniuses that they are. Danny and Justin carried on without a hickup and Jones was in line within 3 seconds!
Possibly my favorite song off of the album
He definitely pulls off the 2nd fret on the D string in that first riff. I haven’t seen him play it but it just feels right.
I love all of your lessons esp the Jones stuff. Could you post in the description your approx settings / tones for each song?
Awesome! Ty for lesson, this is really usefull. Good feeling and dynamic song as well as others and still remain origin , i'm already started the song to try to play . Btw , im also looking for rishloo's song but there is no enough source to understand structure of song to play(im beginner) I mean , there is same feelings like tool but we can easily seperate eachs ,both had making really cool music so , if it is possible looking for rishloo's song for you , it can be good whatever thanks anyway for your all contributions. 🤘👋
This is the best song on the album. Adam Jones is a genius of the understated guitar riff. To paraphrase Joe Abercrombie "Simple things stick best."
you're my favorite teacher haha
thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To me the first chug pattern is 1 & 2 & 1 2 &1 & 2 & 1 2 very obviously but that’s why I come here to get your version and combine with other versions and what I hear personally to make what sounds best to me
You Legend
great tutorial, despite I went with the tabs and discovered this one much later, I’m finding it stil very helpful. However that ghost note in main riff - I believe it’s just a note played by delay - there is some slight delay used while played palm muted which is adding amazing layer..
wuuuhuuuuuuuuuuuuu thankksss
Just found your channel. Great tutorials. I just have one tidbit to suggest... I believe you are going about voicing certain notes in some riffs that are happening due to delay, rather than jones actually performing them.I have definitely heard/seen different clips of him playing with the delay off/quieter and he isn't voicing those notes in his playing and it's just the delay. Impressive nonetheless though. Keep it up and cheers man and thank you.
I'm going out on a limb and flying to Columbus this weekend to see another show. The Minneapolis one was just far and wide the best show I have ever seen and Right in Two and the Patient were cut so I'm hoping to see those songs. I think Maynards voice is getting hard to keep healthy. Hard to find someone willing to do that with though!
Amazing lesson. Though I got bored with this track pretty quickly, but there are some great riffs on it. Also, can’t wait for you to tackle 7empest. I’ve seen so many playthroughs of it and they’re all so very different. I’d love to hear your version.
One step closer to starting my dirty tool cover band
the answer to anything when you just can't be bothered 18:50
thank you so much. Please make some lessons with Om band. Maybe you will like the "Advaitic Songs" album. I love this band too.
Yeah.. I think I might site this one out.. hahaha
Pushit ends on a Bflat chord too
what is it about those two ringing notes that I love. that grumbling sustain rules.
I can't believe what you did to Sam & Dean.
You know what would be cool, if you Could make the same thing with Opeth songs ...Blackwater Park, Harlequin Forest, Hessian Peel, Dirge For November and so on 😁🤘i think there are no whole lessons for Opeth
Hey mate, love your work, just been learning this tab. everything's is precise and the fact you do this soo close to the albums release is epic.
One thing that just does not work for me is the pre chorus palm mute where you explain the 3 on the A then back to the 2 on the D string with the flick release. i know its such a small part but to pick on and it sounds great when you do it but i just cant get the timing right and it feels like theres too many notes in there. i cannot make it work for the life of me.
Can it work like this, simpler and chugged out? 030, 0,02open 0, 3open with the axe flick? all as quarter notes, feels like going back to the 2 on the d had to be a triplet/16th but loses the beef in the sound and i rush it.
Amateur suggestion, curse me if i'm wayy off.
I gotta say. I love your guitar. I can't really afford a Gibson Custom nor an Adam Jones Signature model but yours looks very appealing. What model is yours and how much was it?
Adam plays those opening notes on 5 - 7 on the G, 5 - 7 on D, hits 8 on the A, 7-5-0 back on the D, then back to 5 - 7 on the G.
Skipped ahead to what I thought may be the "easy" part...to immediately hear "then you have a harmonized that" as fingers did what only gods of guitar know...went back to listening to the album
Looking for help on the timing. The song is mostly in 7/8 but it doesn't always work out. I can't figure out what measures are written in 7 and which are not.
Are you using the Revv G3 pedal on this?
Yes.
