I love how light hearted your videos are ❤ My dog is finding Burkïs (sp?) at the moment... I'm not sure about the spelling. We made some butter, but since then have been putting all the truffes back in their holes so they can decompose. Thoughts on this Burkï (sp?) truffle?

Thank you! How long has your dog been finding tuber borchii? Do you hunt any other species? For years we have been looking for good borchii hunting grounds but we have only ever found a handful.of this particular species. I thought they were delicious though . We had a great outdoor meal with what we found - potatoes baked in the embers of the fire. Then shaved truffles, butter and salt . Mashed with a fork.

@@TheRealTruffleHunters That sounds like a wonderful way to enjoy them! Yum! This is our dogs first full year of truffle hunting, she was a late bloomer at the start. They seem to grow everywhere, under pine and moss forest beds, and of course the regular trees. They are scattered, one here one there... Although it seems like already there are less than before so maybe their season is dwindling to an end.... They're not very big... I will try your recipe thank you! So glad to hear about this kind of truffle! Ps. She has also found some bourgogne and brumales truffles this last fall/winter ❄️.

But isn't the dog getting confused when you go into the forest and there are no truffles? Isn't the dog gonna think that you want him just to explore the forest and not search for truffles?

We want them to explore the forest as this reduces their need to run around when the season has started and means we don't waste valuable work time waiting for them to settle and acclimatize. However we do also want the dogs to search - there are some truffles, very few and they are immature, when the dogs find them we leave them in the ground. It is good training for them to hunt in these difficult conditions but this is an exercise we only do with our experienced dogs to take them up a level. Novice dogs stay home until the season begins!
