    The worst part by far is getting used to the cyl. Walking around feeling like your legs are underground is very bizarre. Vertical lines look skewed for a while too. But… Once you’re used to them, it’s fun to take off your glasses now and then because you feel a few feet taller 🤣 (assuming you have ‘with the rule’ astigmatism).

My left eye now feels slightly more blurry at a distance than without my glasses, but everything from about 10ft and closer is way sharper. Right eye has the astigmatism so is waaaaay sharper now. @That Glasses Guy - Thank you so much for this video! It was really the right information at the right time to give me the confidence to push forward with getting used to my new glasses (first glasses ever). I'm one of the latent hyperopes mentioned, with astigmatism in one eye. But my distance vision always was clear - the (mild) astigmatism is only in my non-dominant eye. Anyhow, I picked up my first glasses 4 days ago. Not an hour after getting home, I thought, "These are the wrong prescription! These are just outrageously-overpriced reading glasses - my near vision is sharp now, but my distance vision is softened and I can barely walk in them without tripping over myself. Am I only supposed to use these for reading?" I've been good - putting them on first thing in the morning - but my first day at work was unproductive... splitting headache all day, and my distance vision out my office window was still poor. Second day, less headaches, but I just plain took the glasses off for walking or anything further away than computer use. Third day, today, I went for a drive... I didn't wear my glasses, as I thought it was dangerous for my distance vision to be impacted by the glasses. Oddly enough - even without my glasses - my distance vision didn't seem as good as it usually is... got a headache not wearing glasses. My brain and my poor eyeballs are so confused right now. My prescription is very mild - practically non-existent in my left (dominant) eye - I wouldn't have thought it'd be so rough to get used to them. To be fair, I wasn't given any information about any of this by my optician (one of the big high-street vendors - probably my first rookie mistake). Watching this video, it's the first time anybody has actually described to me what I can expect as a first-timer with my type of prescription. And you were right - I am unhappy right now with my prescription. But at least I finally know the path forward is to "suck it up" and to "wear the glasses from first thing in the morning until I go to bed", and that plus-power prescrips are NOT just for closeup viewing. If I still can't see clearly into the distance with my glasses on in two weeks, then maybe I'd be more justified in going back to the opticians... but for now, I guess I'm still in the acclimation period. Thanks again for your helpful videos! Prescriptions Details, btw are (Age: 39) : SPH R +0.75, L +0.25 CYL R -0.50 AXIS R 150, BVD 12.00.

    • @ThatGlassesGuy03
      @ThatGlassesGuy03  Před 2 lety +1

      The more expanded reasoning is due to the eyes natural ability to add plus, you've been providing your own power for decades, and as you near 40-50 you have less and less ability to do so until it finally becomes a problem. Then the brain has to totally retrain to learn it doesn't need to keep the eye in a constant state of accommodation. Such a struggle, but so worth the end result!

      @contagiousdoge3054 I never completed adjusted. I plan on going back to the doctor in a few months to ask if it really this is the best prescription for me. Driving is the hardest thing for me. Every vehicle looks bigger & closer. Narrow lanes look like normal size lanes & I think I have more space than I do. I've learned not to look down as much when using stairs, but curbs & other small steps still bother me. I get startled by cars turning right when I'm waiting at cross walks. Because they suddenly look bigger & closer when the start coming into view. About halfway through their turn. I can now read the signs sooner & better than before. The clarity & details of everything is much better. The indentions from them sitting on the bridge on my nose. Takes about three or four days of not wearing them to go away. They're a trade-off. But I also am 42 years old & very used to seeing without glasses. If I had gotten them when I was younger, I don't think it would be so difficult for me to adapt.

    I am in the screwed group of hyperopia and astigmatism. It isn't completely side to side though it is mostly but slightly diagonal. I am really struggling with my first pair of glasses. They are only for medium and close distance, I can't wear them when I am walking around or driving. When I first got them it was so disturbing/disorienting I got them redone because there was no way it was meant to be like that. I have had 3 exams with 3 different doctors and 4 sets of glasses later I am convinced they are they way they are meant to be since they are basically the same.
    I tried them for a day, it was horrible, it hurt, it made me sick and I actually had worse vision with them on. They allowed me to read on the computer stuff that I wouldn't have been able to see before but everything else was worse. It was like tunnel vision, and since I only need them to read on my computer it was easy to just give up on them. Few weeks later I tried again because I have to read a lot at medium range, I can't avoid it. I started to get use to it, I was wearing them all day while I worked except anytime I had to get up for something I take them off because they are worse at distance then without.
    My eyes were a bit tired from getting use to it, I was getting comfortable with it and then out of nowhere it starting being all weird again. Now I am having trouble focusing with or without them on. I'll be looking at something and then all of the sudden they just decide to change focus for no apparent reason. They are sore from constantly readjusting. This freaked me out which only made it worse because I can't help but try and refocus and be normal again but it keeps changing on me. Last night I even took some left over pills the doctor gave me to help me relax on a plane, that helped for a while. They made me relax and so did my eyes and everything was cool. Next day its happening all over again though. I can't get to the optometrist until next week. If anyone has any advise on how to deal with that I would love to have it pls.

    Great video! I only have astigmatism (R -1, 175⁰; L -1.5, 0⁰) , but it still messes me up some. Yesterday was great, but today I got super dizzy and nauseous.
    I also noticed that I am sensitive to the nose pads. They are well fitted, and don't indent my nose, but cause some irritation nonetheless. I got super light frames and lenses (16g total, just weighed them), but still. Maybe it's the material I'm reacting to. I was told that I should give it some time, and maybe switch to a saddle. We'll see. I'm trying not to barf yet. 😂 But I am driving my wife insane, cuz I constantly ask her to read stuff far away and when she can't, I triumph, cuz I now can. Maybe she needs glasses too. 😅

    Was recently told I needed glasses was surprised since I had always thought I had great vision. Doc told me to get an exam since I’ve been dealing with headaches. Prescription says +1.00 with -75 & 80 axis. Husband swears up and down I don’t need them all the time just to read (and even suggested not even getting them just getting readers) but optometrist said wear them all the time if I can tolerate it. • @ThatGlassesGuy03
      @ThatGlassesGuy03  Před 4 měsíci

      Two things here, the prescription written for full time wear means exactly that, is your husband in the optical field? Because that rx and OTC readers are VERY different. Second thing, these are gonna suck the first time you put them on and will take a week or so to adapt with this type of power and first time wear. If you go into it thinking negatively it’s as good as money down the toilet, but ultimately if you wear and go through the adaptation time your vision will be both sharper and more comfortable. Clarity in low light will be notably improved as well.

    These technically aren’t gonna be my first glasses, my second ones. But, until recently, I had no idea that you weren’t supposed to strain your eyes during the test so my results weren’t accurate the first time😂. My prescription is L- SPH- + 3.25, and CYL of -1.25. And R… SPH of +1.75 and CYL -0.75…. they said I didn’t have to wear them all the time and to just wear them “as needed”. I’m still debating what i’m gonna do, because I get some eye strain quite often to look at things at any distance. I’m also 20 BTW so my eyes are still able to accommodate for allot of the fuzziness in both eyes. But yeah..

    • @ThatGlassesGuy03
      @ThatGlassesGuy03  Před 5 měsíci

      At this stage in your life for sure, you really only “need” them in low light or to reduce strain for near work. But man, wearing and adapting now will make your life SO much easier a few years from now. It really depends on how much you value comfort of vision and if wearing glasses bothers you :). For sunglasses, I would highly advise doing the RX route (due to the whole low light improvement thing, particularly the cyl power on that left eye. Ouch! Regardless, yeah you definitely still have enough power in your eyes to seriously throw off a refraction at your age, but just outside of where they normally do a cycloplegic refraction (paralyzing the ciliary muscles and ability to push plus and increase the power of the eye). Fun age 😂. I got my first glasses at 22, BUT - prescription with lower cylinder. Different ball game for me. 😎

      Not at all unusual, nor is it damaging your site. The principles in this video are at play. The short version is you need that power to see, but up until now your eyes have been supplying it leaving you very little for work within arms length and increasing discomfort. Having the power in front of your eyes instead of being supplied by the eyes allows them to relax. Thus, glasses off the power isn’t and the eyes have to add it again. It’ll get easier with time to switch as the brain learns the difference but it can definitely take awhile. Also, should point out the obvious of glasses off won’t be as sharp as glasses on, because. Well. Vision correction is kind of the point? 😅💀

    I really really appreciated that talk for farsighted people. It's so helpful, thank you. I'm 22 years old and have about a +1.00 prescription (and very slight astigmatism). I do have one question though-my optometrist never said anything about getting used to it and my distance vision getting better, they said something about my (better than) 20/20 vision making things a lot harder for me, distance-wise. And I was given a Zeiss office lens with a "field of vision" of 4m, but does that mean I should only be able to see up to 4m away? I'm super confused. Should I be wearing them at all times or just for office work within 4m? Thanks in advance!

      In general you’re correct. Sometimes places try to find a workaround for people that just don’t want to wear full time or haven’t comfortably been able to adapt to full time wear… even perhaps they’re just avoiding that fight all together (remember we hate each other I said 😂). But yes in general before presbyopia comes into play single vision should be enough, of course maximum comfort of wear through task specific glasses can ALWAYS be beneficial, and without knowing more of the full medical exam info I could be a bit off base here :) always best to discuss things like this with the prescriber

And in some ways, it makes sense that he prescribed these office lenses because I'll wear glasses mostly at the desk or during lectures. Still, I feel I should've been given a chance to adjust to single vision lenses (which I could use in any situation!) with my full prescription instead of having these progressives with +0.25 at the top for long distance and an add of +0.50. When I asked if I couldn't have adjusted to single vision lenses (especially for distance vision), he responded with "that isn't always the case." I'm 38 years old with astigmatism, I believe my vision is FINE! though I am finding I'm starting to have more frequent foggy days so wife told me I need to get an eye exam. Turns out I'm "not too bad" but I need glasses. With that said, even with them saying it's "not too bad", the before and after lenses in the exam room made a HUGE difference! As much as I was dreading glasses, I'm a little bit excited for them now. I bought 2 pairs, one normal and one for sunglasses, I plan to dive in and wear them all day. I did get some HD TECH package on them, not sure if that's what you were referring to. I'm not too familiar with what it really does but I think they said it's similar to a progressive but it's not?
    I get migraines religiously on Saturdays. Usually the day I change my coffee intake and step away from my desk job. I'm very curious to see how the migraines are affected. Also I have very dry eyes, constantly have to wear drops because my eyes are dry and red, probably from the manual focus straining?

      The dryness is likely separate entirely and contributing to the more foggy days recently. A good consistent tear film can mask a mild astigmatism VERY well :) dry eyes don’t allow for that.
      I’m glad you found the video helpful!! I really appreciate that, as that’s the whole point of doing these :)
      The hd tech usually means a compensated freeform lens design like what is very commonly used for most progressive lenses today. It doesn’t necessarily make a better lens depending on the underlying algorithm but in general it’s a good thing.

      Totally normal and not destroying your vision. This is the affect of your brain slowly learning to dial back and relax the extra work it's been making your eyes do for SO LONG. You had your eyes in a constant state of accommodation basically providing your own prescription, now that's being taken away slowly 🙂. The fishbowl affect will get better once that's done completely, and so will the near accommodation with glasses off, as your brain is also having to learn its not already halfway there for the near work and needs to dial in a little more power than it did before with glasses off. It's a weird process, but you're on the right path 😁

    Will I see even better?

    • @ThatGlassesGuy03
      @ThatGlassesGuy03  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Comfort only at that age and power TBH. Here’s the crack of the whip for you, and why opticians generally hate low hyperopes. Yours eyes have so much plus power to spare, you don’t need the glasses to get that +0.75 and STILL have power left over to get your 2-3 add needed to read within 12-16”. But your eyes are straining throughout the day to do this, not much now but enough. As you age and you lose that ability to generate the power you need naturally (especially approaching 40…. For all the hate towards hyperopes, we ESPECIALLY hate latent hyperopic presbyopes…. Miserable souls they are) then it becomes a problem. At this stage you will actually hate the glasses and see better further and complain about how you see in them and out them in a drawer and never wear them again until you’re the 40 year old above that we all run and hide form because nobody is gonna be happy. 😂😂🫣.
      The alternative…. Know the glasses are gonna suck for a couple or few weeks. Suck it up. Wear the glasses. Enjoy the reduction in eye strain. And see beautifully once your brain learns to stop dialing in that extra power that it has been doing for SO LONG. It can take weeks. It’s up to you where you go from here, but at minimum I would grab some plus 50 readers for extended reading or low light (night time) driving for. Little extra comfort and benefit :) 🥂

    First time glasses wearer today . Let's say I'm wearing them and they're fine for distance, say 15, 20 feet away, then when I turn my head nearer objects like the coffee in front of me seem blurry. That normal?.

    • @ThatGlassesGuy03
      @ThatGlassesGuy03  Před rokem +1

      It can be for sure, especially later in life first pair. Could be a smidge overpowered or on the edge of needing a progressive where it’s taking you a little time to adjust between varying distances with the new power. Tough to say but these are some of the various circumstances that could be at play :)

      @@ThatGlassesGuy03 thanks for the quick response. I guess give myself few days? I was given one pair for reading and for everyday. Have barely even used the reading ones yet. Trying to get used to the everyday ones. Everything seems to be bothering me.. like reflections, different light shades etc. That's normal right? Lol I'm almost 45, getting cranky in my old age..

      Ahhh so your “everyday” pair is a progressive? That changes everything. You need to watch this video- czcams.com/video/ybu6uF9z6cg/video.html

      @@ThatGlassesGuy03 na, they're both single vision lenses. I watched
      your video about the progressive ones. . she did say something like start with these and in a year or so move to bifocal. You optician guys make things Complicated 😂😂😂, I'm going back to my magnifying glass 🤣. Only kidding

      @@littlehawk299 😂😂 why in the world they did that to you I’ll never know. Yup you won’t be able to see up close on the distance glasses or far away in the near glasses. ☠️ that is distance pair 15+ft will be sharpest and you still have some magnification in your eyes left at your age so should cover you to about 2-3’ out depending on your eyes. Then the near glasses for fine print and small things closer than 2-3’. Good times. ☠️

      @ThatGlassesGuy03  Před rokem +1

      I’m not sure what you consider seeing like a person with astigmatism. But the ghosting could be a host of other things from the glasses or even the eye itself. You need to speak with your optician/optometrist about this.

      @ThatGlassesGuy03  Před rokem +1

      Gotcha! In that case yes to some degree. Just the nature of the shape of the cornea and how glasses correct for it. Contacts resolve more of the astigmatism issues up to a point, especially at lower powers. Some lens designs handle astigmatism MUCH better than others so there’s definitely a lot to keep in mind. The ghosting is the only thing I would be more concerned about :)

    Trust me it might seem great you have glasses you can see clearer, more easier no struggle but glasses are monsters, always falling down, ear irritation, nose irritation, glasses fogging up, losing your glasses, not wearing glasses

    • @ThatGlassesGuy03
      @ThatGlassesGuy03  Před měsícem

      Most of those issues are with poorly made and ill fitting eyewear. Losing them, can’t help you there, they should be on your face. Pretty hard to lose there. 🤷‍♂️😂 (and I lose EVERYTHING, but not my glasses.)
