I am a Brit, left wing, anti war, anti-religion... but this song is just INCREDIBLE, but not a patch on the sacrifices made by millions of heroes like Private Malone.
I'll even give you a "god bless your troops". Your troops and western democracy! Not necessarily the precise policy being followed!

Guess what, Artie. I got chills listening to this one, too -- and I've heard it about 1,200 times before. It's such a haunting story that I think it touches me more each time I hear it. God bless goosebumps and the people who care enough to get them.

Private Andew Malone "fought her his counry and never made it home." He died in Vietnam. Private Malone was his guardian angel.

I grew up in a small Kansas town. There was a corvette that sat in my neighbors backyard. It was a 66 blue with a white convertible top. His son was killed in Vietnam in 1968. I tried to buy that car a couple times. I graduated high school in 1989 and left for the military. When I get back from Iraq in 91, he had retired, moved and sold it.

David Ball tells the story of the two guys who wrote the song. The one guys cousin did two tours of duty in Viet Nam and got killed in a car wreck the day he came home. that's where the idea came from.

Sounds like he took advantage of the lady selling the car. He knew that the car cost more than what she was selling it for. He should have driven the car more carefully in the rain. But he had to drive fast like an idiot and lost control and wrecked the car. He got what he deserved.
