Rock lobsters are an admittedly smaller part of dont starve lore, but there is still some emphasis they have in the caves and the fact that they are in fact similar in morphology to the ancients, and maxwell examination quotes that he banished them, leads me to believe they are at the very least, worth talking about in regards to dont starve lore. It’s worth noting that Maxwell’s quote might be a reference to an infamous bug in the base game during beta where rock lobsters would breed uncontrollably if brought to the surface, gradually flooding entire biomes with them

Also the implication that Rock Lobsters roamed the surface at some point and were banished to the caves makes my brain feel weird
I think the main reason these theory videos are so well-received is because they're fun and interesting, but dont require 30-minute deep-dives (though I'd welcome 30 minute videos from you). Furthermore, you present the information in an easily digestible format, and nicely use memes sparingly to keep that "slasher flair" we've come to expect and love from you and your videos. In other words. More please.

As a wobster enthuatist,the reason maxwell says that quote is because rock lobsters would overpopulate and lag the game.
Also the hound quote is probably referring to how maxwell made hounds but they dont recognize him after being dethroned.
We need a theory about Maxwell variants like in hamlet and shipwrecked
I actually have a personal headcanon that those variant worlds were created by old inheritors of the throne before getting deposed. Pugna references Them as having severed the pig people into fractures and a lot of the Forge item descriptions imply the pigs originate somewhere we haven't seen yet, so this to me indicates the Hamlet world might've been created in the image of what a pig would think their ideal world to be at the time before being intercepted. Hence, there are ruins in Hamlet.
As for Shipwrecked, I'm quite a bit more clueless, but it is worth considering that the ancients seemed to strongly favor a tropical climate if their choice of residence in the muddy biome is to be considered, both worlds even supporting similar features like bananas, moss/lichen-filled turf, water-saturated ground and high amounts of bioluminescent flora and fauna. It's not incredibly likely to me that an ancient made it, but I do think it is in the question.

The Rock Lobsters remind me a lot of Gorillas in our real world, they're incredibly brawny and large creatures, but they're relatively peaceful and won't attack you unless you attack them.
This could perhaps further connect them to the ancients, because perhaps the Ancients are to Rock Lobsters as Humans are to Gorillas, in a sense. Two branching paths on the same evolutionary family tree, a case of convergent evolution you could say.

maybe maxwell banished them cuz he thought they were too good of an ally? while slow, they are certainly hardy and pack a decent punch, and they only require a common resource to be recruited. so what if maxwell thought it would be too easy to thrive on the surface with the lobsters' help?
Maxwell understood that your strongest ally could also become your strongest enemy. If he allowed the lobsters to become intelligent enough to understand their situation, they’d become a formidable opponent.
Or because they breed like rabbits in the surface.
Back then, If you brought Rock Lobsters to the surface they'd reproduce absurdly fast and even if you kill every single one, They'd continue reproducing.
This is simultaneously a bug and inside joke considering Maxwell's quote on them.

I feel it's more likely that the Rock Lobsters are to the ancients what Chimps are to us Humans. We didn't evolve from Chimps but we are closely related by a common ancestor.

This about rock lobsters getting defensive over wobsters reminds me of that episode of pokemon where a Blaziken got PTSD from trying to eat Torchic shaped cookies and I'm imagining rock lobsters with sad puppy eyes holding a dead wobster
I don't think it's necessary to make the assumption that coral polyps are the explanation for their hardened exterior, most crustaceans shells contain large amounts of calcium to harden them, with some creatures such as terrestrial isopods more than happy to strip cacium from rocks, the fact that they don't feed the rocks to their outside and instead rather eat it directly imples this; polyps also feed from particles suspended in the water an rely on the water heavily for transporting young and assisting in reproduction which would be really unlikely to occur on land, we also don't see any other evidence of terrestrial polyps in the caves enviroment to support this concept.
Wickerbottom herself states, when examining a Rock Lobster, That they just have a stone-like carapace and underneath it is their fleshy body
@donutlovingwerewolf8837 The carapace is just the exoskeleton. It has nothing to do with external growths. The fleshy interior is just to state that they have meat inside them and aren't entirely stone
Note, lobsters are considered a very excitement and fancy food, and Maxwell was putting himself into debt to reach a glamorous life, so.....

Rock lobsters and Bunnymen really need some type of update. They have been in the game for so long and now we even have moon variants just asking to be made.

@@QilleWolf They are glass instead of rock that could completely twist the rock lobster idea on its head. A lunar rock lobster could throw small boulders from the ground, doing a lot of damage. But they have much lower HP than normal and shatter like glass when they die.

maybe you're right, maybe not... It can also mean that Maxwell banned them from over world, because in solo DS you were able to move them upstairs and over time they populated so quickly and much making impossible to get rid of them. Its been years since I last played singleplayer, but I think they no longer follow you upstairs

Its already been stated ny many others in the comments but if we look at the context clues and how the game functioned at the time and maxwell omnipotence they got banished cuz they breed like rabbits for some reason and they are a force to be reckoned with, maxwell sought to demesticate the constant and that'll be pretty hard to do when you a mob that'll multiply faster than you can kill it

I think they were banished for a evident reason like they had influence on something they shouldn't or alter being closer to them being able to corrupt and use those poor creatures against the shadows.
