This is so far the deepest dive i have done yet in my dont starve theories, and although i believe this theory to be my "Muddiest" I also think it is my best so far, and that reflects on the fact that this is also my longest "heavy edited" dont starve video ever. Anyways this theory stands as a potential answer to a lot of questions about the pigs in dont starve. Where did they come from? Why do they hate monsters? Why are they so dumb? and why are they everywhere?

HOW WILL WE SPLIT ALL THIS KNOWLEDGE? 38:17
I go practically everything in this video in relation to pigs and pigmen in dont starve. Our story starts in hamlet with the ancient pig ruins, the mants, queen malfalfa, queen womant, The BFB, and thunderbirds. I also bring relation to Dont Starves mod made by klei, the Screecher mod as it is relevant in hamlet. I also reference the ancient mayans and aztecs along with the mayan calender and its relation to the aporkalypse that was thought in 2012 would bring the end of the world. I then talk about wilbas potential father and the relation of dont starve to demons due to the reference to the book Lord of the flies. Thanks to wagstaff dont starve being nosy, we also know that Mants were warlike and even more like the mayans. This theory also gives an explanation of why pigs become werepigs, maybe why the pig king doesnt, etc. It also has an explanation for the lord of the fruitflies in the reap what you sow update. The most recent example of hazardous pigs actually comes from wx-78 rework trailer where we can see pigs running from an attack. Why I believe this is important to beezlebub the demon of gluttony, and why The Gorges elder pig is the one who gave wilba the necklace. The theory also contains references to real life examples of ants, termites and the book animal farm. Whether the pigs warred with a species of sentient birds like corvus, the ancient arthropods or even Them is to be determined. After this i will also try to make another Dont Starve OP GUIDE but will likely do a Terraria or Deep Rock Galactic guide instead. Anyways Hope you enjoy. Subscribe plz, i wrote half of this description as just because relevant dst word MAXWELL REWORK. WILSON REWORK. WICKERBOTTOM REWORK. To be clear, what the thunderbirds do to call the lightning is visually reminiscent of the idea that if you could create an ion imbalance in clouds you could artificially induce lightning. Scientists have done stuff like this in the real world with some kinds of lasers and (more commonly) just firing rockets attached to electrically charged cables into the clouds directly. The thunderbirds could very well be doing that instead of shooting the lightning themselves as you describe. Very interesting theory nonetheless, and a very well made video!
So one thing I have been thinking about is that the Random Character may be the creator of the Codex Umbra, with the tophat and gloves hinting at him potentionally being a magician and his coat/cape being styled like the Nightmare throne
Pugnas war based faction could have built the Hulk considering the similarities of the Hulks color pattern to some of the Forge warior pigs
Funfact: The Lord of the Flies is based on a story where a group of boys were stranded on a real island.
But they didn't turn wild and didn't go on to kill each other.
Yeah, it's a satire on the book treasure Island (along with other classics with similar settings)
The satire comes from how the British schoolboys from treasure island were depicted as "civilised" as opposed to the "savage" natives, while LOTF depicts them as the savages
@@Abyssal._. It was The Coral Island not Treasure Island
I read they were doing pretty well, given the circumstances.
I read that the last time some boys got trapped on an island... they turned into white trash rappers with stupid hair and too many tattoos.

First about when the pigs were born : i think it's after the ancients but maybe Maxwell created the pig society in the hamlet after he came to the Constant. Since Maxwell spent a looong time in it, it's likely possible. We know pigs in the hamlet can use magic but they don't abuse it like the ancients (maybe they know something). Maybe during the war, the king deserted bringing his followers with him in the main land and shutting the "gates?" the pigs may have made. By this logic, some pigs after that became unloyal toward the king and were thrown in the ocean (becoming the wildbore and hardly living due to be alone). In the wilderness of the mainland, the king and his followers went a bit backwards mentally but still a minimum civilized. The pigs heads, they activate during the full moon, during the time "Alter" is at full power on the mainland. We know his power can revive things like hounds and pengulls so the activation of the head is explained (they are literally resurrected zombie pigmen heads). The mysterious man theory is interesting. An unknown hero hiding in the constant, forgotten but knowing a lot
I think you put a lot of pieces of a puzzle together, except you are trying to put together 2 different sets of puzzles. Maybe even three. I definitely question the involvement of Birds in this theory, but I would like to know your Bird theory. Most of the birds in the Constant are large to gigantic, with the exception of few that have presumably entered from the other world, like the Crows and Wes. As a Woodie main, I know these damn birds are up to something.
I believe that the pig statues look older because they are open to the elements while the ancients are safe underground
What if Pugna became more 'boarlike' after he met with the pigs? Like you said, a pig can become a boar in the right circumstances, so what if the Random Character photo was before, and Pugna now is the 'after'?
I mean he’s a human
But Pugna is like 2-3 times the size of a DST human, and it's not like he was a child in the photo, so how can he grow THAT tall as an adult?
@@cactusgamingyt9960I mean, woodie’s moose form is much larger than his human form. It’s possible this transformation happened over a longer period of time to pugna.
The closest match we have to the identity of the Mystery Man might actually be an unimplemented character, Wallace. Comparing his portrait on the DS wiki to the Random Character portrait in-game, his beard fits the profile, and what little there is of his clothes seem to line up too. More than that, one of the developers has (supposedly) implied that he is Scottish, and the Mystery Man is clearly wearing a kilt and sporran.
This came out before the Wilson update, but I think we can safely say that the Daywalker / Nightmare werepig is Wilbas father, probably. Great video as always
...why? why would it be Wilba's father and not a random pig that got exposed to pure horror?
Ever since I've played dst, I've always knows the random character is someone. Good to see someone also think that way!
I noticed the random player's icon wears a Scottish Kilt. Given the fact that there is only one species that have Scottish origins (the McTusk's) could it be that they have some connection to each other?
Edit: In addition, its not really confirmed but Webber could be Scottish (or of Scottish roots) given the fact that when inspecting the Tam O' Shanter he says it reminds him of his grandpa. Outstretched i know but could all those three characters have some connection?

I like it when games make the “random” option look like it’s own character. Like nuclear throne does. The random option has it’s own portrait sprite, sound that plays when you select it, and it zooms in on the fire.
That's an interesting theory but is Hamlet really happening in the Sky? Because how would you be able to move to another island by travelling trought ruins, what if Hamlet was taking place in a chain of mountain ?
Edit : to apply my theory let's take the BFB island, it's in a rock biome wich could mean than the BFB is on a really high mountain (wich Can also be in a implicit way be seen on how you leave the said "island") and some species of large bird prefer to put their nest in some really high place and you cant tell the Y axe in Hamlet so this is my theory.
I'm confused, I thought the common consensus WAS that Hamlet was on a series of Plateaus?
I wonder if the mystery character after successfully starting the apporcalypse became the ancient herald, but when the apporcalypse ended he was trapped. Maybe he was sent by Them in order to corrupt the pigs? I also feel like if you are right about the pigs curse being caused by the apporcalypse, maybe the swamp pigs were cursed pigs sent by the queen in search for a cure and the rest of the cursed pigs went with Pugna to find and defeat Them. Also maybe the apporcalypse made it so any future pigs were cursed, so the hamlet pigs besides Wilba were born before the apporcalypse and stayed alive with the fountain of youth(perhaps that’s why they are taller?) and the pigs in the rest of the constant (besides pig king) were younger and born after?
I would like to mention that the Iron Hulk and the Ancient Herald share the same red energy that can damage and kill nightmare creatures.
I openly believe that the enticing thing about Don't Starve is the illusion of a story, which itself doesn't actually exist...
Much like a staged play, the constant comes up with whatever backstory it wants for each world. To such an extent where even the real world as we know it is questionable.
But in case I'm wrong, you're going pretty well with this...
Love these theories!! Keep it up slasherman 🎉

Something one has to wonder about is WHY do the Pigs of Hamlet not have Werepigism but the mainland ones and Wilba do? My thoughts are that either those who get infected with Werepigism are exiled from Hamlet and many of the pigs on the surface world are those or descendants. How is Werepigism caught? Who knows but I think it might have relations to the habitual consumption of monster meat, something the greedy pigs of Hamlet refrain from eating. So it's likely Wilba's father was a decendant of one of these exiles who perhaps managed to return to Hamlet-which might be where the silly string in the Royal Gallery originates from. Or maybe he somehow contracted Werepigism and used the Amulet to hide it but with the birth of his daughter only one of them would be able to wear it, giving it to her, he could no longer live in Hamlet. As for the Pig King? I think he might be from Hamlet and for some reason or another came to the mainland; he's also referred to by Wilba as the "Trader King" and perhaps he has means to sending things back and forth from Hamlet, hence his use for the trinkets as well as his supply of gold-he also refuses to take monster meat as legal tender (an education common in Hamlet), which is perhaps why he isn't infected with Werepigism. The long term or even generational effects of Werepigism is mysterious too, it does seem that the pigs infected with it are more subnormal than their "pure" counterparts: Whether this is cause or effect isn't certain: Maybe the lower caste of pigs simply have Werepigism but that feels too shallow of a conclusion. Regardless those with Werepigism don't seem to produce as advanced socities or even proper speech like those in Hamlet, even Wilba's quite derpy despite her Royal upbringing.
Personally I do enjoy the idea that Wilba's father isn't around because he had to give her the Silver Amulet in order for her to keep her Werepigism under control and thus not be exiled from Hamlet
As someone who never played Don't starve, this is an accurate theory
This was a fucking ride. Lol totally down for the longer videos, or just the theories. It's all good.

@@minespatch perhaps… an examination of deerclops along with the no eyed deer? That "demon" who visited the pigs could totally be Maxwell. He is the only one who had the knowledge to make such a powerful nightmare fueled artefact like the calendar. Back in these days, he ruled the constant and was clearly corrupted evil. Well of course he wouldn't be Wilba's father.

Also, there is a Lord of the Flies character called Percival (which is Wilsons middle name)
There are quite a few names that are in both such as Robert (Wagstaff) and Jack (Maxwells brother)
Pericival just stuck out for he because its quite an unusual name
But hey, that’s just a theory.
A PIG THEORY.
I looked at this and thought "yeah, I'll watch a half hour lore video on a game I'll probably never play."
oh HECK YES DST video essay im so excited for this
The Mayan Calandar is a big stone circle that doesn’t move, the Aporkalypse Calendar is more like a bomb with a countdown.
A calendar tells you what day something will occur, and those dates are set in stone.
The Aporkalypse Calendar seems to actually CAUSE the Aporkalypse, since you can choose when to trigger the Aporkalypse.
For example, you could make a calendar to predict when all the Full Moons in the game will occur, but you can’t make a calendar to predict when the Moon Staff Event will occur because it’s an event that requires “man” made structures. You can’t “predict”when you, the player, will put the staff in the moon shrine, but you CAN put it off by deciding to do it later in the same way you can postpone the Aporkalypse
So I guess the question is: Who benefits from the Aporkalypse?
_Applause_
This was far more entertaining and eyebrow raising then I ever was expecting!
okeyyy I have never heard Stolas Theme and Undertale Music in the same video, but that's beautiful
Pretty sure that the Mayan calendar wasn't referring to a doomsday, but the end of a cycle, I don't know the specifics though.
23:09 the randomly generated set piece with the pig with the pilers and unbreakable rocks
I have a small theory on why the mant workers don’t immediately kill you if you wear a mant suit and mask, they are scared into submission, they see right through it, they just don’t have the strength to attack and kill someone doing that, hence why the guards do immediately go right after you, or the guards are motivated by revenge for the death of the mant you killed wearing that
9:32 its implied aside from a few exceptions wilson is the last guy to enter constant during dont starve
I believe that the Pig King is 100% Wilba's father.
The argument that he does not turn can be explained pretty easily. He is surrounded by obelisks, these are clearly a conduit for Nightmare energy....when they activate you can clearly see shadows going into them as they go up. He likely is able to counter the curse by use of these draining the dark magic that turns him into a werepig....similar to how Wilba can wear a necklace that stops her from transforming from shadow energy.
The argument that the civilized pigs do not turn can be explained as well, the Pig King is very likely to be the prime culprit behind whatever is happening to the pigs in the first place....none of the civilized pigs took part in it, and therefore do not share the same curse as him. He was even exiled from his land for a crime he committed. The pigs in the constant are likely his direct descendants, so they share his curse as well and take on his more barbaric features as they aren't in a proper place to be educated like the Hamlet pigs are.
The identity of the creators of the robots is, in my opinion, the DST crews efforts combined, at a different point in time. I don't think they had anything to do with the Mant war at all, their true purpose was to create an ultimate weapon to defeat Them. The robots are actually able to do damage to nightmare creatures and will aggressively seek them out if they're nearby, and Hamlet has an apocalypse that is prophesized to occur where a powerful herald of darkness covers the land in eternal darkness, when this happens, the machines power up on their own...as if they are specifically designed to do battle when this happens. Using the power of the fountain of youth, the player can finish the ultimate and true end-game of the creators...by creating a literal mecha-suit the player can wear that allows them to punch the shit out of nightmare creatures, see in the dark...clearly being shaped in the form of a human.
When examined, the part of the ancient artifact players can create often has the characters quoting on it's ''arcane'' nature, they say Arcane quite frequently....and what did the DST crew recently uncover in the ruins? They got pieces of arcane knowledge poured into their heads. There are many hints that an unknown force is aiding the Singleplayer experience....ever wonder why when you defeat the Sealnado in Shipwrecked, it's not hostile? Because it's a magical creature, with a magical item in it's organs that makes a powerful weather-controlling device. The real boss is the device that captured it, a device which steals everything in the area that's on the ground. When Wagstaff examines the iron turbines(the item that captured it) he will say ''Made of iron, is there even iron in this world?''. This is also why killing the seal immediately sicks Krampus on you, it was never hostile towards you in the first place....and if you walk away without killing it and then come back, something DOES kill it and leaves the magic-seal item on the ground for you to pick up. Someone, or something, is traveling across the various worlds in the game and aiding you. You can take this a step further, DST introduced the character Wanda, who literally time-travels and is being hunted by the shadows. Her examination quotes on various characters seems to imply she has been with the characters for a long time, commenting on things they've done throughout various times. It could be her.
I don't think the Mants play into any significant lore at all. Don't Starve in its original context was a commentary on Western Colonialism, every character is an immigrant to the constant and is forced to do terrible things...like killing sentient-named pigs for survival, a land full of native cannibals(including the pigs). An island where an ancient force of nightmarish conquistadors tricks the native ancients by giving them drugs (nightmare fuel) and then absorbing their culture and land as they destroy themselves on the addiction. This commentary is also for Hamlet, because the story had not been rewritten to distance itself from those concepts when the game turned to DST. That's why they were originally going to add Warbucks, a stereotypical colonist who uses a gun, loves money, is a picky eater and refuses to eat raw foods like a savage. The mants are the stereotypical image of a native, warlike, species frustrated at having their lands invaded by a foreign colonist presence and bide their time to raid and attack the land they believe belongs to them.
Pugna, and his faction of pigs, may originate from Shipwrecked. The Dark Sword, which looks like a pirate-scimitar in nature, has the exact same stats of the Cutlass you can make in Shipwrecked, many of the shadow items the player could originally make in Don't Starve seem sea-based and pirate-like in nature, this is even more important when you look at Woodlegs, a pirate who when examining nearly every ''shadow'' item will often speak very positively of them unlike other characters. He was originally going to be ''cursed'' to turn into a skeleton but the developers couldn't manage to make it work in coding but his natural affinity to dark items shouldn't be overlooked. You know what else shouldn't be overlooked? The Forge is fiery and volcanic in nature, kind of like the volcano in Shipwrecked? This is already turning out to be a massive wall of text, there's a lot more hints to this that I can point out, but my current theory is that Shipwrecked was in a time before Maxwell's time in the constant, this is where Pugna may have resided. It was ''blessed'' by the nightmare creatures the same as the constant was, and destroyed. The Shadows then absorbed the fruits of Shipwrecked's culture and likeness into it's growing expanse of power, and then abandoned it, where it moved to the constant(and other places). The current cast of the DST crew are being subtely groomed into being the champions for a final, upcoming war with the shadows and at the end of the story in DST will likely team up with their various backgrounds in building and culture and ancient knowledge to build the robots that will be the soldiers. Something will happen that turns Wilson into the ancient herald(notice it's hair), his current rework gave him a passive to take less damage from nightmare creatures and deal more to lunar creatures, and the current playable Hamlet will be a future-version of whatever happens after the war, with our current Wilson from Singleplayer still new on his journey being none the wiser that he himself was a major player in its current state, in a different timeline.

I can’t believe how much music I was able to recognize
As someone who’s lived in Hamlet for most of his life I gotta say this is pretty accurate.
Well theres a new candidate for Wilba's father, the new boss in DST, its clearly a werepig that has been much more darkened then normal, and its chained, clearly indicating that something did defeat and was able to contain it, not kill it though. Why? Pugna may have defeated it in his youth, saving the pigs (which is why he became a respected member to them) but due to it being Wilba's father, Pugna doesn't seem like a terrible person, so out of empathy he instead chained up the beast, hell maybe some pigs still fear it can come again, and leave the heads around as offering to hopefully ease it, the thing is a giant werepig that can clearly rip people into shreds and destroy towns
