Replacing the U Joint on the Steering Intermediate Shaft 2005-2015 Tacoma

  • In this video I will be replacing the u joint in the steering intermediate shaft with “All Balls Racing” U joint pn: 19-1010, this part is intended for use on an atv but fits perfectly in Toyotas intermediate shaft. The u joint on the tacomas, highlanders, 4Runners and other vehicles typically isn’t able to be replaced, so the only alternative is replacing the entire shaft assembly which can be costly.
The u joint that I used costs around $20 and was fairly easy to install.
I am not liable for any problems or issues caused by using this part, I am simply sharing information that I found to be useful. I have not yet tested this part, but will be doing so in the future.

Thank you so much for the video. Changed mine today , fussy coming apart but went together easy. Sand blasted and repainted the shaft. Letting it dry overnight before reinstalling tomorrow.

Great video and I changed mine as well. The only thing I did differently was to use a Zipcut to cut the old u-joint out. That way I only had to push the old bearing caps in. After that it was a piece of cake. Many thanks for this!

Well done! You gave me inspiration to fix my own axle at my Opel Vivaro. Thanks for making the video. Greetings from Norway 👍👍👍🇺🇸

Having the same issue on my 03 Ram Cummins. I put in a replacement steering shaft last month and now it's worse than before (cheap pot metal)😭.. so I'm going to try your method with the stock one because the OEM or even a decent replacement shaft is over $400
    Thx for the vid😎

I have a 2004 4Runner and 2007 FJ Cruiser. I did this swap using a different joint which didn't have c-clips. I am going to put this in, because of the C-Clips, for peace of mind. Thanks

Excellent Video! I drive a Dakota and my "aftermarket" shaft u-joint failed in 2 years. I'll be taking some measurements and trying this out.

How is the joint holding up? Thanks for the detailed write up. My 12 Sienna is needing this repair. Did find out that toyota sells the u joint by itself

Great video really appreciate it. How is it holding up? I have a 2013 Toyota sienna which appears to have the same issues.

Just got a 2010 Taco and the power steering went. The service dept said they found that the U joint was rusted and lubed it up. So is this an issue that I'm going to have to deal with for as long as I have her? I'll be moving back to Cali next summer so one more season in No. Wisc. until then. Super low miles I think (79k+) so I'd like to keep her for a while.

Cool I was wondering if there was a replacement u-joints to replace that steering u-joint. I didn't feel like spending the money on the whole shift so if I can't find a u-joint for my Ford F-150 at the parts store I'll find a quad dealer or even Butler Lawn Equipment might sell you joints for the steering on the zero turn or the riding lawn mowers thanks appreciate the idea. 👍
