Barney's Hide and Seek Game (Genesis) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

- A playthrough of Sega's 1993 children's show adaptation for the Sega Genesis, Barney's Hide and Seek.
This is quite the odd title, but I suppose that it was a fitting segue toward Sega's super kid friendly Genesis based "storybook" console, the Sega Pico. While it's hard to derive a lot of value out of this as an adult, I remember a few friends when I was a kid that had younger siblings that were completely enamored with this. If anything, despite the apparent laryngitis, there is quite an impressive amount of speech that the cartridge holds, and it pastes the words together quite well to form sentences. It's creepy, but then, so was the television version of Barney to begin with. I always hated it - in fourth or fifth grade I remember all sorts of colorful, off-color songs being sung to the tune of the theme song during lunch. Still, if the game's only purpose was to pander to children aged 3-7 between the years 1993-1995, it hit its target pretty damn well. To anyone else, it'll probably be nothing but an obnoxious relic of 1990s television that is probably better left forgotten.
It's good for a laugh after a couple drinks, though!

Ah this game. If you set the controller down Barney will just walk to the end of the level on his own. You don't need to find anything to win. Officially the first game I ever beat 100%, no shame
So you can just beat this game by doing absolutely nothing. Who does he think he is Luigi.
Kyle Cunningham
Luigi hack?
You 100 percented this game? And I thought Mega Man X was the greatest game to 100% complete.
still the only game i've beat at 100% 27 years later .
@@kylecunns Plot twist: Luigi is inside Barney
"Let's hug the bear!"
"Let's open the door!"
Great advice
"Let's play with matches"
"Let's see what drinks we can find under the sink"
Lee Bee
“A stranger is a friend you haven’t met yet”
“You are so creative” (in response to cheating at a game)
The last one is an actual thing that happened on the show.
Austin Reed I always found the show to be messed up in differing ways; Especially growing up with that purple dinosaur (thank god I mostly watched Sesame Street for educational crud and not Barney back when I was little; Yeesh)
"Let's ride on the cloud."
More great advice.
My parents got me this and mortal kombat 2 at the same time when I was like 5 years old…
“Let’s rip out the spine”, “let’s punch the guy’s face until he bleeds”, “let’s finish him! Oh BOY!”
I never played this game, but this looks and sounds downright hilarious to me! I love the random quotes Barney says like "Oh look a heart!" ❤
Loved this game when I was 5. It was no Sonic the Hedgehog but back then game cartridges were scarce and you appreciated every one you could get your hands on.
I remember playing this game all the time as a little baby and with my family!
Richard Canipe ergwqrtyisdghw25ty77880sggkpllzxvbbnmklxn
Same but on PC!
Core memories unlocked. I was 4 playing this back in the 90s
What entertained Mii the most about this game as a kid is that you could win by doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING...
At the beginning Barney should say "Oh Boy, its Sega! Let's hug Sega ^_^" lol
I need Barney as a character hack in Streets of Rage now!!
➡️➡️🇧blows kisses
🇦 calls the blue baloon
This game is quite disturbing in a number of ways, but I think the most egregious offender has to be the recording of Barney saying "Boing!" at the Sega logo. So wrong. Apparently his child sense is tingling.
Also in the second level when he goes toward the houses he says "Let's open the door." Didn't he teach us it's wrong to enter a stranger's house?
he doesnt specify how we should use our imagination
barney doesnt teach people not to imagine wrong things
The "Boing!" is far more creepier than Rick Taylor chanting the names of the Gods in order to open the portal to the Netherworld in Splatterhouse 2 (In the Japanese version, mind you), and far more intimidating than hearing the T-Rex roaring, "Sega!" in the Jurassic Park game or Dread in Rolling Thunder 3 saying, "You're a dead man."
What The Hell This Is?
LOL!!!!!!
Nostalgia just hit me where it hurts
I remember playing this at the hospital
UPDATE
I was never expecting a lot of likes I appreciate it thank you
For what reason were you in the hospital?
My uncle was in the hospital and the Genesis was in the lobby so I played it in the lobby
@Juan Rodarte no why do you ask
@Juan Rodarte oh ok that makes sense I appreciate your asking
wait wait....whaaaaaaaaaat year was this?
8:36 "I see a fart!"
At least, that's what it sounded like to me...
I see a heart not fart
Toot Toot Toot Toot
Impressive amount of voice samples. Heck yea. This game knows what's up. Genuine Barney, No messin roun
Voice clips of Barney were done by Bob West. The OG and Iconic Voice of Barney.
1:13 Awww! Such a sweet dinosaur!! That is why kids loved him back in the 90s.
really have you watched dashiexp he is a gangster

Oh dear. Hide the children, quickly!
@@NintendoComplete The purple shaft has emerged and the dinosaur may start jacking it

Came here because of DashieXP [UNWANTED GUEST]
AHHHHHHHYAAAAAAHHHH!
MAKE ME A SANDWICH!!!
Barney: " Let's find that bitch."
" I see a friend, don't call child protective services." LOL
It seems that this game is all about Barney having to find and kiss and hug the shit out of everyone, not even the butterfly escapes his twisted mind.
0:00 barney needs to learn how to say Sega
Did Barney get an erection? Because I think his child predator urges are starting to kick in!
I just realised that this could be the Genesis version of Big Rigs.
You can't lose, and you don't have to do anything to win. In fact, touching no buttons lets the game play itself.
Sounds kinda familiar, eh?
Not really
This game is mostly functional
Big Rigs is a buggy mess

what a throwback. haven't seen this game in 27 years. my brain is now melting.

Wuuut?
And this is supposed to be an EDUCATIONAL GAME for YOUNG CHILDREN!!! Kids can’t BREATHE UNDERWATER!!!
Lmao.
Love the Channel, keep making videos, people should remember these games.
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Yes People should remember these games so that some may never be repeated again.
+ryan489 that is true, some games were hell.
this is so disturbing and wrong on so many levels but the animal sprites look good though.
One of the hardest games of all time congratulations
*”AHYAIGH! MAKE ME A SANDWICH! AHWOWOWOYAIH!”*
Despite the fact that Barney & Friends is considered the worst show ever, it has since become a cult favorite, even after Sprout stopped airing reruns of the show. BTW, the man supplying the voice of Barney here is Bob West, who was later replaced by Dean Wendt.
I loved this game so much…
I remember in the late 90s when stores stopped selling Genesis games, we would buy them from people we found on the Green Sheet. They wouldn't sell the cartridges individually, but in groups of 5 or so. One time I got a bundle with this game and.... oh, boy.... After years of being spoiled by Sonic, Shinobi, and Streets of Rage, I didn't know the Genesis library contained stuff like THIS
This game reminds me of DragonTales Hide and Seek for the Ps1. Never new Barney even had a game, until 2015 hahaha
Never understood why adults had so much to comment on a video game for KIDS . It's not for you it's for your KIDS (1-6 IMO) . This was a great game for that age range .
Agreed.
agree this is awesome for the 3-5 year old range. lots of voices in it too. i actually liked playing it. you just gotta channel your kid self. think i'll let my toddler play this one, she'll love it
But this game NEVER puts its trust in its target audience. This game acts like you 100 prevented each level even if you didn’t find everything in each level, so if this game is gonna reward you no matter what, then what’s the point in collecting? Also if you don’t touch the controller, Barney can just walk all the way to the end by himself, then why make this a video game at all? That’s not trusting your target audience, that’s making them feel stupid.
The game could've at least let the player well, PLAY the game
Home screen- Barney Theme Song
forest- Happy Wanderer, Sarasponda, A-camping We Will Go (Farmer In The Dell)
Music Town - I Am A Fine Musician, Skip To My Lou, Alouette
Underwater - Row, Row, Row Your Boat, Sailing Sailing, Sailor's Hornpipe
Farm - Old Macdonald, Mary Had A Little Lamb, I Can Do It (O Suzanna), Bingo
Counting scene - Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
Ending scene - I Love You (This Old Man)
I like how Barney said “Boing” during the Sega logo, it’s supposed to be more of a “SEEEGAAAA!” LIKE SONIC!
My Childhood
"Remember... i love you"
17:21 Look it's a Bitch
20:43 we found a Monster
So that's where Dashie got the pixelated Barney 😆😆
Logo: We see the Sega logo in its futuristic font (which is in blue and contains many white stripes around it) on a black background. On most games, the color changes in shades of blue.
Variants: This logo has a lot of variations, but below are some variants for the regular logo:
In its early days since until 1991, the registered trademark symbol "®" symbol was used. Starting around late 1990, the "TM" symbol replaces the registered trademark "®" symbol.
Sometimes, the logo lacks the trademark symbol.
On some Game Gear titles, the logo is plain blue and takes place on the blue background.
Starting in 2017 to honor Sega Forever, this logo returned as a secondary logo for its placeholder, with the on-screen logo turning into the 1988 logo with the Sega jingle.
There is a Sega Master System variant. The logo's individual letters slide in from from the darkness. After, the text "MASTER SYSTEM" and a copyright stamp appears.
FX/SFX: Just the changing color. Sometimes, the logo fades in and/or fades out.
Music/Sounds: None or the opening theme of the game.
Music/Sounds Variants:
On games produced by Infogrames (except for The Smurfs 2), we hear a vocoder yell "SEEEEGAAAAA!".
The Sega Master System variant has a rising square wave chord when the logo's letters slide in and the 8-bit Sega jingle when the text and the copyright stamp appear.
Availability: Common.
Seen on most games for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis.
Also appears on some games for the Sega Game Gear (and the Sega 32X attachment for the Genesis/Mega Drive).
Some of the only games not to use this logo were most Sega Master System games and every Electronic Arts game for Sega Genesis (including EA Sports games as well).
But one EA Genesis game that contains the logo is Shaq Fu, while Baku Baku Animals, Bonkers Wax Up!, Daffy Duck in Hollywood, Double Dragon, Lemmings, Sonic Blast, Streets of Rage, Ultimate Soccer and Virtual Fighter Animation were the only Sega Master System games that contain the logo.
The logo can be also seen on EA Game Gear games.
It is generally left intact in most re-releases of Sega games of the time period like on Wii Virtual Console re-releases of Genesis games.

Picked this up today. I'm gonna get ripped and have the time of my life. Boing
This was the game the GFAQS message board of which got BALEETED once upon a time (the only other it happened to was "Clown Down Town" on Atari, which incidentally had the ID "1337" at the time). I always found that hilarious af that it could happen.
0:34 officially the very first time babu bop sees barney come to life 😁
I turned on Barney for my kid for the first time and had a memory of this game unlock. I had to see if I could find it. CZcams doesn't disappoint lol
This intro is messed up. Baby Bop doesn't appear until after Barney comes to life.
it's more confusing than anything else really? so are her and BJ actually real in the context of the show?
I think this would be the first game I would get if I had the system in real life.
I loved this game so much 💜
We so need an A.V.G.N. review of this horrible game A.S.A.P. too! Funny how it was also the one and ONLY Barney game which was ever released for that matter as well.
Yeah. Hopefully.
??? Not even close. Barney had several games on PC
Sure this is the only console Barney game that exists I'm pretty sure, but not the only Barney game period
@@zach7551 Well either way, it was still the only Barney game on console as I said. But I'm sure he could do the PC games, if they're even worth looking at though.
this was the first game I will play in my life :0
There has to be an AVGN episode for this.
This is hilarious. Can you even lose in this game?
Um no because I read the Wikipedia and it says that he lectures children instead of dying and also even if you didn’t get all of the items or find all of the friends you still win.
It’s a Genesis game, but when you find hearts, stars or when anything sparkles, it sounds like a Super Nintendo game.
I loved this game as a kid. This and Sonic.
*B O I N G*
This was my first game for the sega genesis
0:28 that’s a nice sega genesis music for Barney

You're being sarcastic. You have got to be kidding!
I used to own this is as a kid
This was in an attempt to compete with Thomas and friends
In the tradition of educational games it was fun for kids to play and those that grow up with the game can joke about it when They play it again
Oh the stuff our parents made us watch growing up
isnt it relaly fucking weird when barney just fucking hugs everything in sight even though he doesnt know any of these people or animals
Houston, we have an endurance round.
The GameFAQs board for this got BALEETED back in day from constant flooding... I don't really recall but some of the topics were funny as all get out. (The same happened to the "1337" board--Clown Down Town on 2600.)
That’s a game that a devil would enjoy playing
GODDAMN MEMORIES
*watches 10 minutes of the video*
I don't feel so good...
*blood pours from right ear*
Loved this game so much can’t seem to find it though 😗
I’m not complaining, but it’s interesting how this is the ONLY Barney game in existence. There have been a dozen Dora the Explorer games, a few Blues Clues games and God knows how many Sesame Street games, but as for Barney, this is it.
supermariofan03 Oh god you just HAD to bring up "Terminal 7 Street"... Imagine if this game got corrupted :oooo
supermariofan03
There’s also only one Peppa Pig game. Only one or two games based on shows like Teletubbies and Boohbah, too.
@@austinreed7343 Make that three Peppa Pig games now.
Wrong, actually , Barney had several games on PC
This is the only one on a home console though

People commenting that this game is "creepy" definitely never experienced being a kid in the '90's.
At 0:00,
"BOING!!!!!"
So Barney can slide on slopes in this game but not in his show.

Which game is better: This game or Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle?
I feel so old
I'm sorry Barney sounded very creepy in this game 🤣🤣😂😂😂
This is the first game i played
Barney had to be the worst kiddie show host ever. Or at least that's what I thought until I saw Psalty the Singing Bible...
Thank the lord that Psalty never got his own video game (even from the scumbags at Wisdom Tree who made Spiritual Warefare, the religious rip-off of The Legend Of Zelda).
Simaginary Friend At least he's a host. Compared to stuff like Teletubbies & Boobah.
Psalty the Singing Bible... I am so glad I never knew about that as a kid lol.
Oh good grief, I've just looked up Psalty the singing Bible and wow, that is frightening. And I love Bibles!

I saw illustrations of him. Still bland and non-appealing, but not as horrific as the show.
I think the game is cute

Meu Deus que nostalgiaaaaaa
Regardless of what many people say, i doubt i'm the only one who actually likes this game. I like how it's more of a relaxing relatively simple platformer and with smooth controls. I think the only thing they could have fixed is that it could have been a little bit longer in terms of level selection (maybe not the point of being tedious but still), and with a story to go along with it, but aside from that, i think this game managed to keep me entertained.
I do like the PC Barney games more than this one though.
We have Monokuma at home:
My little cousin saw this and he said he rather play that Venezuelan Crazybus game than this one.
I'd literally much rather play a C.D.I. game! Like The Flowers of Robert Mapplethorpe! (L.O.L.!)
I'd rather play E.T. than this.
