Shovelhead Chopper: Shaving Harley-Davidson fork legs!

- Hey everyone, today Jason is shaving his fork legs on his chopper project. The 1977-1983 Showa 35MM forks have a dual disk bracket and fender mounts that will visually clash with the spool front wheel and fender less set up on the bike. After simply taking the forks apart the lower legs have the majority of excess material chopped off with the band saw. The lower legs get placed into the lathe and the turning process can begin. Once the legs are "shaved" multiple grit sandpapers (150-2000) are used to smooth out the lower legs. Aluminum polish is applied with a foam and wool pad to achieve a smooth and shinny part. Lastly, reversing the order of disassembly the forks are rebuilt and new fork seals are installed.

Im known for only running Springers, but if i had a lathe, i start shaving down tubes and running them. Good job on those man
Thanks, the lathe is turning out to be Handy for certain.
Nice work 💪
Don’t know how I missed it, but I just watched a week later. Great video as always Jason.
Thank you!

You deserve it! Rubber side down brother! ✌️
Those look great!!
Thank you!
i thought i was gonna learn how to get em so clean but you got a lathe that aint happening i gotta go oldschool with a grinder
A grinder can give great results. I’m fortunate to have the lathe.
👍🤣👍
How much have you shaved off the legs, please?
I believe it was a 1/4”. I took the least amount off as possible, if the reflector mounts were casted differently I would have been able to shave off less material.
