Poor woman, she had to suffer the loss of her amazing mother (which is Queen Victoria's daughter Alice) and closest younger sister Marie at a very young and had turned into a quiet person, later in her life she wanted her son to recover so that is why she had Rasputin to heal him, and at the end of her life her and her beautiful family get murdered, may she and her family rest in peace

      @petercrossley2956 Před 5 lety +3

In not one photograph, baby, child, adolescent, young deb, bride, mother does she ever smile. The permanent downturn of her mouth as a child is obvious. Presage of a life of sorrow ? Or just a nasty tempered, spoiled child ? No, the death of the family was wrong, so wrong on so many levels but that's not the focus here. The focus is Alix, an obviously unhappy, pouting child, woman and mother. She brought on the illness of Alexi, she undermined her husband's authority in public (and he let her -- there's lots of blame all 'round). Her presence prevented the family's escape to England. Actually, come to think of it, she really had no reason to smile, ever. Ever wonder who, other than Alix, Nicholas could have married ? Were there other choices ? Why her ? Was it Victoria's expansionist ambitions in play, again ? Was Nicholas "bullied" into marrying this unsmiling woman ? I stand to be corrected. Please post any photo of Alix smiling broadly or laughing if you have one. I have never, in all my research on the family, found one, hence my previous statements. Please prove me wrong. I await your response.

@@petercrossley2956 She lost her mother, at 6, and immediately her possessions/toys had to be burnt. She moved to Russia where she was trying for years to give birth to a son, and when this son came he was hemophiliac. He would scream for hours, every single day his life would be at risk and she had to worry not only for her child's' health (listening to him screaming from pain, whispering exhausted ''mama'' with her unable to help him as much as she wanted to) but also to keep it a secret from those hyenas who wanted a healthy heir. Russia was accusing her of being a spy, then Russia accusing her of having sexual intercourse with Rasputin, they whole world was against her. She could see her husband doing wrong moves, that caused anger to the Russian nation and she could not prevent much. It doesn't require much intelligence to see that she had reasons (valid ones) to fall to depression. Princess/empress/duchess/Tsarina, you can name all the titles and riches in the world, but when someone looses a mother, battles every single day for his/her beloved sons' life and is hated by the world and the couple is made fun of, from the whole world while storm is approaching, i don't think anyone would be very positive and happy and want to smile. Look at her eyes this is called depression. As for smiling specifically, i guess you did not see all of the video, because there are smiling pictures of her in it. If you refer to pictures that should be like portraits, or very official posing pics, i m sorry but whom else did you ever see smiling on such themes? You can't wear a crown on your head the size of a watermelon and smile while saying yolo and be called an empress.

@@petercrossley2956 Alix was called sunny by her family when she was a child because of her sunny disposition. I've seen smiling pictures of her as a toddler and before the death of her mother and sister. She have also tragically lost a brother who fell to his death from the upper floor of their house. She became withdrawn and shy after losing her mother and sister and seemed to never recovered. As for marrying the tsar, it was the tsar who first set sight on her and he was determined to marry her and no other girl. Tsar Alexander and the tsarina was opposed to the union as was Queen Victoria. Queen victoria advised Alix against the union. Alix's family had wanted her to marry her cousin, prince Albert Victor, the eldest son of the prince of Wales but Alix refused. The other reason that the union was difficult for Alix was because she had refused to convert to Russian orthodox initially.

Alexandra Feodorovna (Russian: Александра Фёдоровна; 6 June 1872 - 17 July 1918) was Empress of Russia as the spouse of Nicholas II, the last ruler of the Russian Empire.
Originally known as Alix of Hesse and by Rhine, she was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom.
Upon being received into the Russian Orthodox Church, she was given the Christian name and patronymic Alexandra Feodorovna and-having been put to death along with her immediate family while in Bolshevik captivity in 1918-was canonized in 2000 as Saint Alexandra the Passion Bearer.
Alexandra was the last Tsarina of Russia and one of the most famous royal carriers of the haemophilia disease that descended from Queen Victoria.
Her reputation for influencing her husband's resistance to the surrender of autocratic authority over the country and her known faith in the Russian mystic, Grigori Rasputin, severely damaged her popularity and that of the Romanov monarchy in its final years.

although he was an integral piece to their downfall, Rasputin did not necessarily have to be included in this gallery of pictures of the imperial family..
I cannot blame the Tsarina for grasping at any type of healing being offered for her son, but this guy was a THUG..
some say the family got what they deserved, I'm still debating that one with myself and circumstances I have read of the last years demise of the dynasty..
I guess you could say the tragedy started the day her grandmother was born..no Queen Victoria, no granddaughter Alix, but this is what writes history..
Beautiful music, wonderful images, heartbreaking tale..

She was unfortunately partly to blame for such a demise of the family. Having strong influence on her husband, stregthening his fear of losing power and his idea or becoming a martyr. She was stubborn and having very little reason. Very bad influence on Nickolai.

Ya, but being royalty doesn't make they more deserving then others. Plus lot of history don't know what she did behind the scenes.
Plus, I don't think they needed this. But people for get how she did run the show, and Nicky's mom and Alex had him pussy whipped. She was rather tough, and turned the other cheek when Bloody Sunday happened, telling Nicky it wasn't his fault. When it was. he wanted to go say sorry and be with his people, to fix it. As a king does, but she all "NO!" Their people blamed Nicky and wanted him, when his crime was he was pussy whipped she never been their ruler, but Alex called shots. So she kind of dig her own grave.

Hermosa familia! RIP. Peace with you!

Probably throughout her life she many not have felt well. She was quite ill equipped to be and empress. She and Nicholas refused to see the sweeping changes coming. Theylived their lives in a splendor that tried to insulate from the effects of the French Revolution. They did not listen to Rasputin who warned of the coming Great War and howbackward and unready to fight it was Russia. His warning, of course, became the realityand the ultimate end of empire and royal family.

She was more incompetent, blind and misguided tHan her husband which is saying something. She surpasses Marie Antoinette in selfishness but at least the Queen of France got a trial. She was murdered not because she didn't deserve the punishment of death for her injustices and incompetence but because she was not given a trial.
Politically I understand why her children were murdered but it was an act of brutality.
