  • NAV CANADA is at the forefront of an industry first that is transforming how air traffic is managed in Canada and across the globe. As a founding partner of Aireon, we’ve become the first in the world to deploy space-based ADS-B domestically. This means we now have a full and accurate view of every equipped aircraft in Canadian airspace, including over the North Atlantic - the world's busiest oceanic airspace. Why can't they add free weather like in the US?

This is great but not many aircraft have satcom - unless it will be sometime mandated my Transport Canada for operational requirements.

Satcom is not required by the ADS-B system. The Aireon satellites directly picks up the transponder 1090MHZ ES broadcast from equipped aircraft.

Denis Ranque really? If that’s the case then this is pretty sick! Didn’t realize satellites could pickup ATC Mode S 1090 ES. This is perfect for Canadian Airspace surveillance.

Too bad they didn't have this around when MH370 disappeared.
