    While I have a 55 gallon and 10 gallon planted freshwater tanks, most of my tanks are Saltwater Reef Tanks. I am slowly replacing all of my Aqua Clear filters with these due to how quiet they run, ease of maintenance and flow adjustability. For FW tanks, I would divide the tank rating by half at least and for SW, I would divide by 3 or maybe even by 4, depending on what corals you're keeping. Great HOB filters and one I most highly recommend!!!

    The *Lower Wheel* opens or restricts the *Intake Tube.*
    Closing this causes more pull through the Grate to the right of the lower wheel and the Skimmer.
    The Skimmer is never "shut off".
    As for the "Pop Up" this will show for Restricted Flow through the Media.
    The two chief causes are "Dirty, Clogged Media" and/or being *"Too Creative"* with over stuffing the Media Basket with excessive Filtration Media thus *Restricting Flow.*
    Tidals are *Designed to Bypass* when "Clogged" to continue Water Circulation and Oxygenation.

  • @plushpossum
    @plushpossum Před 4 lety +2

    LOVE your shirt! Love your cuckcoo clock! That said, I bought the Tidal 55 for my 30 gallon tank and the flow control valve stopped working in 2 months. :'( It's just dribbling out now. (Yes......everything is clean. And the little indicator is NOT popping up!) I contacted Seachem and am waiting for their response. But dang, this is such a quiet filter!!!!! And I LOVE the self priming feature!!!!

    • @aquariumaddict4734
      @aquariumaddict4734  Před 4 lety

      That sucks to hear! I haven't had any issues controlling the flow. I have however noticed the overflow indicator wasn't moving up after a few months. I don't think there is a perfect HOB filter out on the market right now, but I've loved this one the most because of the self priming and surface skimming.

      If you pop the Blue Clip, that locks the Media Basket in place, you can lift the Black Plate to access the Volume Wheel and its Swivel Plate.
      The shaft on these sometimes will bend.
      Warm the Shaft with HOT Water and you can straighten it, if necessary, and/or Clean the small inlet chamber.

    Hello! Can i use a tidal 55 for a 15 gallon? Because the tidal 35 does not have much features or the intake pipe, so i really would prefer the 55, but it also might be a bit overkill. What do you think? Does smaller tanks matter?

  • @kenjiro2676
    @kenjiro2676 Před 3 lety

    I think the only thing you have to worry about replacing is the pump, which you can replace. It should last you quiet a while because I just checked Amazon and there are no reviews for the replacement pump/propeller.

    I would have bought the Tidal 35. Seachem has it right. You only need a turn over rate of 4 to 5 times an hour. The Tidal 35 would have been more than sufficient.

    • @aquariumaddict4734
      @aquariumaddict4734  Před 3 lety +2

      With the adjustable flow, it's been perfect for me. It also allows me to upgrade the tank size and keep the same filter. I'm a big proponent of overfiltration. I don't want to buy something and then end up having to buy something bigger down the road either.

    A WORD OF WARNING: Though i love everything about this filter, i have found one super annoying situation. I have neon blue dwarf goby. Three of them. These are GREAT little guys. Here's the problem. Wild caught. They are from areas of natural flowing water [think rivers/streams]... so, what's the problem/warning you ask? I keep finding them INSIDE my Tidal 55 HOB filters external water/media reservoir. That's right. They jump UPSTREAM. And they want to hang out INSIDE the HOB filter's reservoir. So, if your neon blue dwarf gobies (or any other wild caught dwarf gobies go missing for a few days... CHECK YOUR RESEVOIR TANK -- very carefully. 23
