Great review. Clear, point by point concise and objective.
Thanks!
Thanks for the review. “I should probably know who makes it..start over” haha great bloopers! 😂
Lol...that was one of my favorites!
Good review gave the pro and con of the filter with informitive and entertaining content. Great video bud
Thank you my fellow tribe mate!
Yes my favorite HOB filter thanks for covering this mike
The Tidal? What was your fav before?
Love your videos and your energy!
Thanks!
Nice HOB....Defiantly have to put an intake sponge on it...those slots are huge! Nice video! Thanks Mike for sharing!
Thanks for watching my friend!
I have four aquaclears running. They work very well. They usually restart after the power goes out. Sometimes I have to hit the motor with something after a outage It gets stuck for some reason. They keep my water very clean especially if you don’t use the sponge that comes with them. Filter floss or batting works much better
Thanks for the review
Watch my review of the AC 🧐
Great video. Will you be letting us know if it worked better with your modifying?
Of course I will!
i like these new HoB filters with the impeller and motor in the aquarium. no need to prime every time i clean it
That is a nice feature!
Thanks for the review. I've been looking into replacing my secondary filtration that's a penguin 350. Either the AQ 70 or tidal. The tidal looks nice, I just don't see anything about it that makes me want to pay the premium price for it over the AQ.
Nope, I’d go with the AC.
Use the 110 for heavily stocked messy fish. I own 3 different tidals. They are excellent. Pimp them like the pond guru. I painted the silly blue dials with krylon fusion. All black now
I have the Tidal running on my 55 gallon Mbuna Tank. It's been running for about 8 months so far. I like it for the most part. I agree that the shape of the basket is weird and if they squared off the back side of the filter it would be better. The heater clip is pointless, I didn't even install it. I suppose if you had the right size heater it might work. It does get noisy if the water line drops. But topping off the tank is part of the job right? As for the media, the filter does not come with the right media. The coarse sponge is extremely coarse and I cut my own foam and added Pinky Pad. The Seachem Matrix is ok. Not sure how it stands up against the competition.
The big winner for me is the reliability of startup after outages. I live in an area that has them often and it has never failed me. I can't say the same about a few other brands I've run. I have also owned Aqua Clear filters and they are still probably the gold standard. But Seachem has a lot going on in the Tidal and with a few tweaks, they could defiantly take the crown. Hopefully, Seachem listens to their users' feedback and makes the corrections.
Well said Kurt. I think I will still stay with AC, if I used HOB’s.
LOL not "defiantly"; "definitely"
I used two Aquaclear sponges and the matrix media. I also use a prefilter sponge. The obvious self priming advantage, skimming and complete flow control are the best features. With Aquaclear sponges filtration is great and in my opinion matrix or pumice stone is the best bio media you can use. If only they did make the sponge rectangular.
The weird shape of sponge annoys me.
gréât vidéo, i am thinking of getting one. could you do an update on your pimping of this filter and the outcome
I will in a few weeks for sure!
great, thank you
Unrelated question, did you say on a previous vid that you feed your flowerhorn snails? If so do you actually feed them or do they just happen to be in the tank?
I actually take them from pleco tanks and drop them in for Chewy.
I've just finished editing a review of the 110 which I'm posting tomorrow, I got covered in dust too lol
Lol
Great review! I also like the auto prime feature. Don't like the price. Also, I don't like the weird shape of sponge as I like to add my own. Otherwise, not a bad filter. I think I will stick with my Aquaclear.
Me too....🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for giving this filter a fair shake. Of course I "hot rod" every filter before installing. I've watched way too many Pond Guru videos. A pre filter sponge on the intake would have prevented a lot of that muck from getting into the media basket (along with pleco fry). Matrix is indeed a good product. It's porous, allowing beneficial bacteria to live on the INSIDE of the media, thus giving said bacteria longer life than those that live on ceramic rings, etc.
Here at my house, the power has gone out 4 times already THIS YEAR! So the self-priming feature is a must for me. The thing about the plastic is this plastic is more flexible. The Aquaclears plastic is brittle in comparison, so I feel like one could accidentally drop this and it wouldn't break, whereas the AQ would break. Again, thanks for not crapping all over this, even though you're obviously a diehard Aquaclear fan.
I try to call it like I see it. Unlike the plastic better but the weird shape of the media basket annoys me. Lol the self priming feature is May favorite part!
i like the aqua clear much better too.. 😊 the versatility of the media box is just great!👍🏻 thanks michael!
Thanks for watching!
I really want to try one but the price has went up like 15 dollars in the last year and I don't need a filter that big at the moment, 55 gallon being the smallest size, although I think they have a 35 now.
They have a 35 now. Did you get one? amzn.to/335zQBd
I’ve had those filters three of them already only because I wanted to stop doing it and started doing it and give away which I regret but they’re great
Can you add some punctuation or something so I can figure out what you are saying.
Nice looking filter unit.....While on filters, I want to set up auto water change system. BUT my water is town water and it has all the chemicale you can think of. Is there a way to treat the water as it is being added. I was thinking of setting up a carbon point in the line to remove the chems befor the tanks. Would this work, or is there another way. Cheers and keep up the great work.
What do you mean by all the chemicals? Chlorine and chloramines?
@@MichaelsFishRoom yes my friend, chlorine, fluride, allam, and those are the ones I know about. Fluride is for healthy teeth, I beleve, and the allam is a settling agent for small to medium particulas, and the chlorine , well we know what that's for. I am worried about my fish which are all natives to Australia and all reside in our local water ways. Then there are the guppies and mollies, as well as three types of shrimp. Again here is hopeing you can help with an answer, you being so knolagable. Cheers. Excuse the spelling never was any good at it no how..
lol, I suck at spelling too.
Not sure about the others, but a carbon block filter will take care of the chlorine.
@@MichaelsFishRoom cheers that's what I will try then, an inline carbon setup . Thanks man you the best..
Nah...just a dumb guy with a camera! Lol
I love the goodness that you recommend!
Me too! LOL
Hi sir do you turn off this tidal filter when doing water changes? because the water will be lower than minimum level i have the tidal 35 version
I don't use it.
i'd be curious to know what the result was after adding a little filter floss on top of sponge
I didn’t see much difference, other than catching a lot of “stuff”
@@MichaelsFishRoom Thank you for your response. I enjoyed your thorough review.
Thanks!
Great video
Thank Felix!
Michael I live in Delaware went to Super Cichlids today The cleanest store I have been in Lisa and martin are Great. Upon entering I was greeted by their daughter and met by Martin got the best service I have ever gotten. Prices are as good or better than big box stores. Lisa Sat down with me going over what I needed during that time I was treated like I was the only customer even though there were several others. Looking at there tanks everyone was very clean and all livestock very good condition. I wish they were closer to me but ill be back.
Thanks so much for supporting my friends! I am glad you liked it. I should be there around the 23rd or so, stop by and say hi!
I had to plac a plastic mesh at the bottom of mine so the sponge does not get squished into the open holes and limit water intake. No overflow and much better filtration I have found. Full flow and no bypass. I use about 3 inches of course sponge. Half inch of filter floss, a bag of Seachem Matrix and a bag of Seachem Purigen. All fits with no restrictions. Crystal clear water.
Nice
Been getting my second tank with a sponge filter to cycle. Finally got cloudy so it's about to be done. Been using bacteria daily. My main tank is cycling nicely now! Oh and I did actually find a LFS. I thought they were an aquarium for show but it's an actual store.
Nice! What are you putting in the tank?
@@MichaelsFishRoom Just guppies. Gunna be breeding them. Eventually I'll get a third as the need arises.
@@MichaelsFishRoom Actually was considering one pleco. Are there any breeds that stay small? I know they can get huge.
Most bristle noise stay under 3 inches. All the ones I sell stay small.
@@MichaelsFishRoom Nice thanks!
tidal 55: how much does take a the space in the fishtank( that part where the pump are)? Thx.
I have no idea.

@@miljan999 If you knew, why did you ask?
@@MichaelsFishRoom I didn't know at the time
I own that one. Got mine from Amazon. For the 1 month I has issues with it. Then I looked at the media the pumice was mixed with rocks about 50 50. I bought some aqua clear bio media the white media cylinders and wow what a difference
This media should be light weight. Empty it in water some stones float. Check the ones that sank to the bottom. If heavy or hard put them aside don't use them
A difference in how clean the water is?
No, my beneficial bacteria. Luckily I have sponge filters in other tanks with bacteria as backups. To keep my water clear I added a medium course sponge. I also used filter floss pad to wrap around my bio media (matrix) think hot dog. That rectangle cutout on the basket allows water to bypass the the sponge and not get filtered.
Try the filter floss and let me know if this works for you.
Water to by pass to the sponge?
What is the height of the filter resting on the aquarium glass?
I don’t know what you mean.
I have the 75 coming soon. I plan on using my own floss media, round lava rock (10 mm) and Seachem Prime, possibly something else. Currently using the Marineland Magnum canister and a China sponge filter that I'm charging with lava rock and ceramic. My water is crystal clear and my parameters are great but the canister just takes up too much space on my 58.5 gallon tall.
The canister should be outside the tank 🧐
@@MichaelsFishRoom it's the internal one.
Oh, canister filters are external. Lol
@@MichaelsFishRoom you know the bigger one's are. This one is kinda small compared to those.
Marineland Magnum Polishing Internal Canister Filter (ML90770) www.amazon.com/dp/B01C8PH0OI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_6qRECbS6SEWK6
Do you like it?
I finally got mine, the 75. I stuffed it with my favorite media. I love the water flow and the sound of the water. That's nice. BUT...it's VERY LOUD! Ugh...I tried everything I could think of. Took the media out. Filter basket out. Different water levels (nothing drastic). Took it apart and cleaned everything, even the motor and propeller. It's still loud. 😣
Yeah...it can be!
@@MichaelsFishRoom I'm going to try to find out why it is this weekend when I have time. I ran the motor by itself in a bucket of water and it was silent. Something is making it rattle in the housing. If I can stop that then I will use it again but I have my canister filter back in the tank right now.
Make sure the extension housing is tight.
My aqua clears keep breaking, but it’s usually fine because I got it from petco and they break before the warranty. I should try that one!
How do they break?
The motor fails. If you have tips, that would be great!
Do you have a sand substrate?
@@Dylan-we5dz mine fails alot, and I have a bunch. Just move the lever that controls the flow and put a thin stick in there move the impeller around for a second and will start right up again.
Michael's Fish Room No.
Hi Michael, are these Tidal filters supposed to be silent. Just got a Tidal 55 and it is making a grinding type sound.
Mine never made a grinding sound. Did you check the motor?
@@MichaelsFishRoom Yes I did, Opened it up and looked at the impeller and made sure the impeller chamber had nothing in it. I will have to contact Seachem.
I bought this 7 months ago and it does a crappy job of keeping the water clean. I have tried every possible solution and never had this problem before. I have a 29 gallon tank with 5 dwarf cichlids and the tidal 55 moves the water fine but does not clean out the small particles in the water. I always do a good water change vacuuming the substrate and my tank now looks like you through dust everywhere. It is getting worst the longer I have the filter.
Even though I am not a fan of this filter, that sounds like you are using the wrong media
@@MichaelsFishRoom I use 2 bio sponge filters 50 PPI, 30 PPI or 15 PPI and have added filter floss which I don't have to use with my other fish tanks. I don't remember what I had on this tank as it was no longer being made. I have old HOB filters on my other tanks Top Fin, Aqueon 75 and a Tetra whisper. the quality of these older models is ok but they just don't make these as good now. So that is why I paid the extra money for the Tidal 55 and I am not that impressed. I am looking for a simple HOB that filters the particles out of the water. I have many problems with the Seachem Tidal 55 like the lid is a bitch to lift off, debris escapes the filter media, the media container is not easy to get out looks easy in video but when it has been in use it sticks to outer container and which you mentioned the skimmer cannot be turned off. I have been in the aquarium hobby for over 30 years and do apricate your response back and if I am wrong in anyway about this product i am always willing to learn. Thanks again.
@@kirksmith6791 Feel free to post it to me if you don't like it. I think they are good
i got the aqaclear 35 filter on my beta my power went out as of right now so now i have to pour water in it and that sucks all power filers should have the pump in the water its a no brainer i got the 35 and the 55 they start right up,aqaclear has to go
Mine start most of the time on their own. Just gotta keep the impeller clean.
The only thing I don't like about the 55 is the control knob for the skimmer option is in the wrong location.. this should have been designed for easier access and also, it doesn't have any sort of indicator mark showing what it's controlling; the skimmer or bottom intake spout.
Not a fan at all.
Happy fry fry friday 😊
Thanks!
My aquaclear been running for five years and still going strong
I know right!
All of mine dried up and stopped working. There customer service is terrible.
I already made two comments on this awesome video, but they ignored the main reason I do not want to use this filter. I personally feel that the lower number of plugged in electrical cords I place directly into a pool of water, the better off I am lol.
How is their a lower number?
Oh snap! Thanks for the correction! And no I think they will be gone in a few years time and AC will still be around!
Great video man. Mine get pretty noisy at low water levels. But that’s not a big issue. And for the many other commenters you don’t have to hate aqua clears to like another filters features. I don’t get these comments. I get them too.
Lol..thanks for watching sir! I like them both but i think I like the AC’s better simply for the price and ease of customization.
Michael's Fish Room yeah just based on price the tidal doesn’t do enough. The way the pump is set below the water line is my favorite thing it does. It just makes more sense.
Me too! We are like twins! (Clearly I’m the sexy one though)
@@pecktec Agreed. That's why hot-rodding applications where a electronic fuel-injection conversion is done, it's considered better to mount the fuel pump inside the tank--like the factory cars have--than to merely place it at a low-point on the chassis.
They put them in the tank because it looks cleaner. (Hot rods)
Coca-Cola and Potstickers!
I had Tidals for a little bit. They're good filters, but I had a few issues.
Pro over Aquaclears: the plastic is much better and less fragile. The self priming is pretty great. I didn't find it to be noisy even when the water dropped, but I don't let my water drop much.
Cons: the price and the god damn media bucket. It's more expensive than the AquaClear and puts 50GPH less than the AquaClear. It's not available locally, so if it breaks, I have to order it. And the media bucket is hard to clean. My AquaClears I can pull the tray up a tad, swap the polyfil, and then lower it back down without removing the basket, the tidal I have to have a bucket and like dump it out. That right there is annoying for what I do.
Not a bad filter, but for the same reason I pay the money for the aquaclear over the marinelands, is the basket is easy to pull out.
I am going to give it two weeks, then make up my mind...but I still think I like ACs better.
@@MichaelsFishRoom the Aquaclears have their issues, but I think the tidal missed the target
I feel like the skimmer intake would suck up my small fry and I see no way to use a sponge cover and protect them. Also, the shape is a nuisance
That is why I like the AC better.
At first I really liked my Tidal 55s. But just replaced them this week. Ran 2 on a 55G. They clogged after 3-4 days (3 medium Oranda in tank) I couldn't run more than 2 thin sponges under bio-media bag or it would overflow the white insert basket and bypass. Hated the 3 points of entry for intake. And was impossible to get inside "skimmer" area to clean if wanting to. Good concept, dumb design. I gave up.
Yeah, I love my AC.
The motor is submerged into water or outside ?
In the water
Thanks. I asked the question because I saw a video saying submerged motors release heat into the water. Not sure if that's concern if the motor increases the water's temperature.
Good question. I don’t think it would increase the temp that much if it does.
Nice video. But I'll never buy that, not enough area for sponges or meida.
The media area is actually big, it’s just a strange shape.
I don’t understand why people state that their AquaClear doesn’t restart after a power failure. I have owned my AquaClear filter for seven years and to date it hasn’t given me any trouble. Each year I am hit with 12 to 15 power failures because I live just on the other side of nowhere. The AquaClear has never failed to restart when the power was restored. I have owned quite a few HOB’s in the 61 years I have been keeping fish and none of the filters have equaled the AquaClear. I don’t know, maybe the China AquaClear filters aren’t as robust as the as the 1.0 versions but I’ll find out if this one ever dies. Keep up the good work Michael, I love your no nonsense reviews. Let the politicians be politically correct all they want, I don't believe them anyway.
Thank Marty!maybe the 1.0 are better?
Sea hem is much more quieter as the time goes on because it’s motor is under water vs outside which will probably get noisy in few months.
Ok
I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE HAVE SO MUCH PROBLEMS WITH HOB FILTER. YOU NEED TO KEEP THE IMPELLER CLEAN PLUS YOU CAN USE A PRE-FILTER SPONGE IN THE INTAKE TUBE.
Drives me nuts too , I've helped many people get their hobs going again in fb groups . Some don't even try and insist they need a canister filter . I'm thinking if they can't keep a hob running how will they ever keep a canister running . But what ever I just try to help if I can
Why are you yelling bxkid7?
Only time will tell considering I've had the same aqua clear for ten years still going strong!
Boom! Longevity! What size tank?
WOW thanks😁 10years💸💖👩🏫🏆🔮
Buddy, are you in my head? I was just researching this filter last week. yeah man as soon as my matrix starts smoking i get outta there.
LOL.....like Facebook.....I think something and BOOM an ad shows up! LOL
@@MichaelsFishRoom Yup. I can be driving and just think about something and when I get home, bam, ads
It’s creepy!
Michael, I told you in a previous video, use an under gravel filter in your pleco tank, it’ll do the job for you.
But if you insist on using the HOB filter, look at Pondguru on You Tube, pimp my filter series, he recently pimped a HOB filter, it’ll help you out a lot with what to put inside your filter.
Put a sponge on the intake of the HOB, that way, not so much crap will get into your filter, just try it Michael, please.
Good luck buddy. 👍
Thanks!
Sponge prefilters don't work on the Tidal because the surface skimmer can't be completely turned off.
And in my experience will just stop the big stuff from getting sucked up.
I would actually like to know your take on undergravel filters. I have tried them on several occasions but they always turn into nitrate factories. However, I've seen it work well in a tank where there is an appropriate nitrate-sucking plant in it. Given that you use pothos, wouldn't undergravel filters work well in your setup?
Seems awfully bulky, like it would need a larger space than usual in back of a tank. As for the gunk on the inside, I'd definitely put a pre-filter sponge on it.
Yeah...ima make some mods to it when I get back from your weird state.
Easier to just siphon the crud out of the tank. Problem solved.
The only reason that the Aquaclear doesn't restart after a power failure is that there is crud in the impeller/magnet chamber of the motor. All you need to do is clean the impeller/motor chamber once a month and it will restart every time! I'm amazed that folks haven't figured this out. It's convenient to just pull the media basket to clean sponges etc., but here and there, you just gotta do more.
I’m hearing some people haven’t restarted from day one.
Yeah I clean my impellers monthly. Has never helped them restart. After 20 years thrilled to have a filter that does restart, every single time. @@MichaelsFishRoom
You were you I was talking about!
Thought so...@@MichaelsFishRoom
I think penguin 350 is better. It sucks that the price shot up on Amazon. It was just perfect at $26. I hope it goes back down.
I use to like them, but had issues
@@MichaelsFishRoom because of the common wheels stop turning issue? I personally don't care if the wheels stop turning on mine but every time I clean the media (once a month) I'll spray a few squirts of vinegar from a squirt bottle into the white tips the wheel sits in and that clears it up and it'll turn again for awhile. I personally just use media bags full of lava rock in them and don't give a damn about the wheels turning or not. It's more of a water mover for my application (same type of tanks as yours production tanks, a fellow breeder) I like them because I can use them without a sponge on the intake, the slots in the intake are small enough I've had no noticeable guppy fry deaths and the fact I don't have to clean freaking intake sponges is just GREAT. Now see an aquaclear intake...well that'll just suck up fry like crazy and requires a sponge.
That’s part of it....but the impellers get noisy.
Boxes are always tricky, Mike. Don’t feel bad :)
You have no idea. 🤣
Michael's Fish Room Was it the maze of strap clasps in high school? Tough course to pass!
No idea what you are talking about. 🤣🤣🤦🏻♂️
Michael's Fish Room Couldn’t post word for word. I didn’t want offend anyone on your page. There is hope for you yet, young patawon.
Lol
Wow! that's a big HoB. 😊
That’s what she said 🤣🤣
I use both filters. Obviously tidal filters come with limited media. I put my own sponges and bio rings in mine and it actually performs every bit as good as the aquaclear and has better water flow. Common sense will tell you that a skinny blue sponge and matrix isnt going to clean much.
AC wins IMHO.
Obliterate it but only gently! Awesome review buddy.
Thanks bro!
At the near 1 minute spot you say AQ are not reliable in a power outage...how often does your power really go out? For me, it has been 1 time in the last 5 years, so power outage is not an issue. I was hoping this filter could be an improvement on AQ, and at first I thought it might be. But heater holder...not such a big feature for me...longevity is...the one I tested died in 18 months. The multiple intake locations...how do you prefilter? My Goldies love their duckweed and this filter tried to eliminate that. I wanted so much more, but I did not see it. I will never leave AQ until there is truly a better option. I loved that your conclusion was basically you don't see any improvement over an AQ, and at the roll out price...NO WAY. Interesting side note...the Amazon price has dropped on these about 30% since inception. The market has spoken and SeaChem should probably stick to the "chem" part of their business lol. How is your result after a couple months? Is this a better alternative to AQ, at a higher price, and why? Curious your take on this.
An update video will be coming, but to answer your question....my power has gone out twice in 10’years, once for 4 days. But there are party of the country it happens a few times a year.
Power outages occur thousand of times every day.
For sure they do!!
1:55-2:05 geewiz that's how I feel about practically all the LFS and petshops here in the opposite corner of the country.
I feel your pain.
@@MichaelsFishRoom yeah... I just don't get why so many of these places are crappy. I understand on the petshop front ya know the fish are just... There to be there ya know the petshop owner doesn't care about fish health but a LFS of all places a LFS!!! a store a person specifically went into business and specialized in I don't understand why so many SO MANY are just pure crap and sell low quality sick fish and just mark up everything into sky high crazy territory. In my mind, wouldn't it be better to sell a little cheaper and move product than to just have it sit on the shelf? Again in my mind there comes a point it's sat there so long that even when someone does come along and buys it at the insane markups they've realistically didn't actually make any money on it at all just simply sold it at that point. Although I had a somewhat positive visit to a LFS last week, I went to world of wet pets in Beaverton, OR and it was well their fish weren't the BEST I was not impressed at all with their livebearers but their prices were great not on everything but I was extremely surprised the markups weren't obnoxius like most places. All bettas were $7.99 and rhe owner hand picks them, they have the BEST bettas out of anywhere I've been in the PNW so far $7.99 any betta... I'd got two of the best bettas I've ever found in the US there. I know the other places would mark them up into the $30 maybe even + range unnecessarily (I've seen how freaking CHEAP they are wholesale so it really kinda bothers me crap places mark ugly bettas up so high) I'd go back for the bettas alone also their Amano shrimp were $3.99 that's the first time at a LFS I've seen them under $5 a piece and I thought that was awesome, same price as petco. The goldfish were just trash quality there and the angels and guppies too but again for the bettas that's the best place. I tried quizzing the employees who they order from but they wouldn't divulge the information. I don't believe it's the cichlid exchange as their livebearers we're very poor lines not like the cichlid exchanges livebearers at all but if the owner hand picks the bettas it must be a wholesaler here maybe Burian, WA
Sad to say....me, too. I'm all about supporting lfs's, especially during this hard time for small businesses, but man... the owners and workers are so rude to strangers for no reason. Ask a question and receive snark. What? They act like it's my privilege to be in their royal presence. Sad.
I bought a Tidal 110, and it was LOUD. Annoyingly loud. I ended up reaching out to Seachem support and they mailed me a new pump. The new pump was just as loud as the original. Ended up returning it to Amazon.
They are loud especially if the water level is low!
I'm glad it wasn't just me. I had it on a 55 gallon right next to my work desk. Was way to loud to listen to all day.
That must have been torture
I have an Eheim 2215 on it now. Nice a quiet. But I really want to move from Canister to HOB. Easier to maintain.
Have you tried Aqua Clear?
Awesome Video Thanks for sharing FishFam NJAE19
Thanks!
Kentish has good prices on this
How good!
Just threw out two more Aquaclears. They had not turned back on when there was another power outage. The motors of course were plugged in and running dry. That scenario alone is a safety hazard. I've been a fan of AC for many years, but when something better comes along, I moved on too. I have been using several sizes Tidal for over a year now.
1. The crooked intake was due to you not having it snapped back in place correctly. When you took it out of the tank and handled it later, it almost fell off, and you snapped it in then. That alone altered the performance. 2. Like AC, the sponge is single and cut to fit the media basket, which is huge compared to AC. Like we do AC we all turbo the Tidal. I add one or even two more sponges and they get filthy on the tanks. Very effective, given time to filter. Yes, like AC filters they cost a couple more bucks. I've used the same filters for over a year, and still using them. Well worth the $10 or so one time investment.
The two flow dials you referenced then didn't adjust both later effects the performance too. Yes, you turned the flow dial up high - but the second dial regulates the amt of flow allowed the skimmer. This effected performance too. Though it did not get a complete nor fair review from you not reading directions and assembling it correctly, regulating it correctly, it's obvious you see it's a quality filter. Read the three pages, and language you prefer, and set it up correctly lol. Get those extra $5 dollars it cost you, benefit.
It's hard to not think of it as an AC but it's not. It's a better product that does all the things AC fails at. I realize many younger hobbyists have only ever used AC and are very loyal to it. I was too until I kept losing fish for a filter that needed work. Now, we have that filter so I have to accept my ACs can't do all the things modern day Tidals can.
And yes it is made by an Italian company for Seachem. Sicci is one of the best high end aquarium products available. This is one hobbyist's experience who has kept fish for 57 years, before we had hob filters, and then used AC's since they arrived 20+ years ago. Technology and filters have improved, finally. I love '69 mustangs, but drive a late model Buick. Because it's a better product that is dependable. Thanks Mike. Those plecos are rocking it!
Don’t worry another review is coming in a few weeks.
Awesome. Again, congrats on your shipment today, and it being wholesale. Cool beans...@@MichaelsFishRoom
Away though hobs were overrated. Don’t have these in the U.K. much
standard in U.K. is the internal ones and canisters..
Sponge is also used a lot . But they don’t sell these is shops
However these hobs don’t look bad there’s a lot of media and from the look
of it looks like it can do the trick, there’s a tone of features too. I
like the fact you can just maintain without dismantling the whole thing apart, unlike the canister.
Every damn time.... cleaning that is a mess.!!
Not a fan of canisters, but I had never had one.
Eheim 2262 is really easy to clean. Nothing beats the ease of cleaning a sump filter.
so its nothing more than a regular old HOB? The word "tidal" always implied (to me anyway) that it somehow would create an ebb and flow like a tide! That specific shaped sponge almost seems like dont want you to use 'aftermarket' parts!
For sure more difficult to “modify” the name got you with its fancy marketing!
No, what are these “scissors” you speak of?
But how?
You mean up 2-1!
l bought 2 tidal 75 for my 75 gallon and unfortunately they are just back up filtration for me now. while it is well made and and has a lot of good features, the biggest problem is the bypass. i use filter floss and as soon as those are slightly clogged (after two or thtee days) the water just goes thru the bypass and pretty much doesnt do any mechanical filtration. its too bad because it has a high gph, but if you go beyond a quarter turn of the flow controller dial, the filter clogs even faster and at high flow setting the water flow is so fast the water trickle sound gets really loud. my 2 cents.
*STOP Putting Whatever YOU Want in the Media Box.*
You are creating the "bypass" by Clogging the Filter with Your Own Media.
Bottom to Top Filtration!
WOW Paul, you really feel strongly about this don't you?
Pepsi bro. What language did you choose?
English...it’s all I know! Lol

Nice!
Own the Tidal 55. Things I like: self priming, surface skimmer, decent basket size. Build quality/warranty. Cons: Surface skimmer cannot be disabled. Large footprint inside tank.
I modified mine with a prefilter sponge, and I zip tied another sponge in front of my surface skimmer to avoid nano-fish/shrimp being sucked in. Also, when cutting sponge pads for the basket, make note that the basket size increases as it rises so you might need to cut larger than you think.
I did chat with a guy that didn't want the skimmer. He closed it up using some black aquarium silicone. A bit permanent but it worked.
Hmm I keep the skimmers turned down as low as possible in my fry tanks. Haven't found any fry in the baskets, yet.
“Yet”
I know you wouldn't know from watching, but I have tons of fry in four tanks right now. water changes today, no fry found. so it seems the low mode is good for them. @@MichaelsFishRoom
What's with every fish expert having a shaved head? LOL
Besides John from KJE, who is an expert?
My aqua clear 110 is awesome I don’t even use aqua clear media, I moved the sponge into my sump and I use pot scrubbies in my aqua clear now. It’s awesome. I recommend aqua clear any day.
Me too! Did you see my review of Aqua clears.
As long as you don't have a power outage.
This is the one major flaw.
Now that you've used the SeaChem HOB for about a year what is your commentary? What is your favorite HOB. I got an Emperor thru my Craigslist purchase of (55) gallon and fish. It is as noisy as all git out. I also got some Aquaclears for my 10,20, and 30 gallon tanks all free on Craigslist. They don't make the humm that the Emperor does. I can hear the water dripping bc my water level is low. I used some to start my (20) gallon bc another mama molly is expecting. I just had another mama drop (9) babies last night! Pittsburgh Pets did a great video on managing fry. czcams.com/video/WGfdON3zvoo/video.html
Actually a review of all the HOB's I have will be coming soon, but a new champion MAY be crowned. Love my Aquaclears!

I LIKE SEACHEM BETTER THAN AQUACLEAE
OK
If Fluval/Hagen produced an updated Aquaclear with the motor on the intake stem, it would destroy any reason to buy a Tidal. They could probably get away with using the same plastic box and they'd only have to change the intake stem to accommodate the motor and the dark colored connection plate the intake makes contact with on the inside of the box.
Why hasn't someone 3d-printed this already?
Great idea!
Here is what is being posted on CZcams about this filter. found on the internet somewhere.
1. A flow knob to control 80% of the water flow. Each notch is a 10% increase or decrease so you can manage your water flow to slow your water so it stays in contact with your media longer which is better for beneficial bacteria.
2. Draws water from three locations, top (skimmer), middle and bottom for better water filtering, not just the bottom.
3. Another knob to totally shut off the bottom intake if you only want to filter the middle and top of your tank only.
4. If the mechanical media at the lower portion of the media basket ever gets clogged it has a slightly higher bypass in the basket so the water will still be filtered through your media and continues to run efficiently.
5. Media basket locks in place so it will never rise up pushing the media up high possibly causing an overflow and flooding your floor.
6. Removable no spill media basket comes out for easy cleaning using the lid as a no drip carrying tray.
7. Self priming so you don’t have to worry about it not starting and recovering from a power failure or maintenance.
8. Self cleaning impeller. From Seachem Support: The self cleaning feature of the Tidal Filters can be explained by the structure and build of the impeller housing. There is a groove in the Tidal 55 that goes through the slot where the impeller stays and it will continuously clean the impeller of any debris or buildup. For Tidal 75 and 110, where the impeller goes that continuously flushes a little bit of water through the back to keep it cool and quite clean. The 75 and 110 have the same mechanism.
Ummmmmm.....ok, thanks.
Duplicate reply to a duplicate comment regarding Tidal vs AquaClear. Not a spammer...just a fish folk.I copied the marketing BS from the above post and evaluated the usefulness vs the marketing spin of each of the 8 "advantages over all other HOB filters" points . VOR = Vince Olshove Response to alleged benefit.
Old technology. Found this on the webThe Seachem Tidal filters have these advantages over all other HOB filters.
1. A flow knob to control 80% of the water flow. Each notch is a 10% increase or decrease so you can manage your water flow to slow your water so it stays in contact with your media longer which is better for beneficial bacteria. VOR: Not an exact science at !0% based on testing, only a concept marketed by Seachem. AQ has a 100 to 50 based on the adjustable "U-Tube". If you need to cut flow by 80%, you probably bought too much filter. No real performance advantage
2. Draws water from three locations, top (skimmer), middle and bottom for better water filtering, not just the bottom. VOR: With three draw locations,, there is no way to put a pre-filter on the two upper inputs. A pre-filter is the biological filtration equivalent of running a sponge filter. Also, shrimp and fry are at danger without some sort of unsightly barricade. Lastly, the skimmer intake is not useful at all if you have any floating plants in your tank as they clog the intake. No performance advantage, and clearly a disadvantage.
3. Another knob to totally shut off the bottom intake if you only want to filter the middle and top of your tank only. VOR: If you do not want to filter the bottom of your tank (cannot imagine why this would ever be the case) then use only 1 tube on AC filter and you get middle water only. No performance advantage.
4. If the mechanical media at the lower portion of the media basket ever gets clogged it has a slightly higher bypass in the basket so the water will still be filtered through your media and continues to run efficiently. VOR: Interpretation...if you are too lazy to service your filter, this will buy you a few days. Is this a performance issue or a lazy fish person issue?
5. Media basket locks in place so it will never rise up pushing the media up high possibly causing an overflow and flooding your floor. VOR: See #4. A feature that will be useful for 1 in 100 true fish people, but hey, it looks good in print.
6. Removable no spill media basket comes out for easy cleaning.VOR: We are talking about fish tanks...there is water. What does this have to do with the effectiveness in use for the two to three weeks it is running vs. the 20 minutes you service it every 2 to 3 weeks?
7. Self priming so you don’t have to worry about it not starting and recovering from a power failure.VOR: Two comments...might be different for some, but my power has gone out exactly 1 time in the last 6 or 7 years...and guess what...my AQ's fired right up. If you have so many power outages that this is an issue, you should get an instant cut over battery back up for ALL of your fish equipment or you run the risk of putting a lot of aqua animals at risk.
The 75 and 110 have the same mechanism.VOR: Based on over 40 years of fishkeeping, the concept "self cleaning" is complete crap. In an environment of flowing water, fish food containing oils, natural algae growth, the intentional presence of bacteria and let's face it...fish poop...there is NO SUCH THING AS SELF CLEANING. VOR Conclusion: The writer alleges Tidal is better, but does not present any actual, tangible performance enhancements to prove "Tidal is better". The further fact that I know of people who have had AQ's running 10 years or more with no issue as cited here, the noise level on AQ is much lower than Tidal, and I know of several instances where users of Tidal have trashed them and gone back to AQ because the Tidal burned out in 18 months tells me the "cut and paste" fun to be a naysayer post bashing "old technology" is not backed by any true evidence.GAME/SET/MATCH - AquaClear
Eh? Stand by....
Lol
AQUACLEAR rules!
Lol
Aquaclear is alright. They burn out a lot.
Aquaclear far surpasses the Tidal. I own both. The Tidal allows too much bypass. It hardly filters the water at all.
That’s what I’m finding as well.
i have the Tidal 110 well rather 2 of them on my Fowler tank . i run different media in each bio balls carbon chemclear blue for saltwater tanks .Media of my choice was that was my attraction to Seachem the other feature was auto start after power outage that's killer in saltwater hobby u need movement ..Also your water level Must be above the pump or the Tidal will not turn on meaning the water line on the inlet of the skimmer portion also it has a noise to warn you hey dummie i'm thirsty .. I'll trash the Ehiem pro 4 250 canister my tidals replaced its cheap plastic priming it was a bitch you had to suck on the Tet to prime it lacked a lot force unless you had all the air bubbles out of the lines ..Sea chem Tidal replaced it i had 1 tidal 110 running also . but the ehiem like there bad reviews tell you clips cracked on the ehiem after three months . Well when i get mad i want the issue destroyed there ehiem support was useless it opened the door to my first seachem take over mutiny . I said good by ehiem Tidal 110 got a new mater 2nd one i love them !! So much wish Seachem made a canister filter i love there seachem rodi units and there hob filters totally hooked for feature mentioned above . the heater holder hold my fake plant to help my babies fish hide from the big fish to me i afraid breaking my heater i think long term these hobs will be in my fishie world . i have been using seachem since January 2019 i had my sea chem rodi unit 4 years recently upgraded my salt water tanks into 1 huge tank in January my fish love the flow at 62 dollars seachem tidal 110 is a steal that is today s price
Nice! How are they holding up now?
i will stick with my aquaclear"s.
What do you like better?
new england endler ...Seldom see Aquaclears in the UK , that’s a pity , but got to say these Tidals are the mutts nuts , I’ve got two , 35 and 55 ,they are virtually silent, you mustn’t overload them with media they may bypass , but you don’t need to , I just put a thin layer of polyester wool between the sponge and the Matrix and my tanks are crystal clear ..Still wish we could get Aquaclear in the UK , but no problems at all with the Tidal , and they self prime which is a god send .
You put it on your filthiest tank with only a thin course sponge and a bag of media. I am guessing you don’t run your aquaclear filters like that so how can you give an honest review doing it the way you did it? An aquaclear set up the same way would have given the same shitty results. I know you love your aquaclear’s but if your going to do an honest review, do it right. That’s just my opinion.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion....but I do run my AC's the same, so..........
i wonder how lazy you gota be to let your tank go that bad and funky and to think people buy fish from you AMAZING !!!
Well I sell a shit ton of fish so keep wondering.
Que feos acuarios tienes!
Huh?
His tanks are soo dirty a ugly and he is surprise that theres detritus😂😂fishy folks🤦♂️🤦♂️
Spell much?
Tidal expensive and over rated.
Why do you think that?
Your tank water is filthy gross!
And you’re an idiot....
Why would anyone take filter advice from someone who has some of the nastiest tanks on CZcams? Not to mention a grown azz man calling other people FISHY FOLKS, really? I bet if that filter came with a Free Large Pizza he would have loved it and told all the FISHY FOLKS to run out and buy 6 of each size. My advice to Mike, skip the snacks and beverages, you don't need them, get up and clean those nasty tanks, your fish deserve better.
Later
I love me some pizza. And I love when haters hate. Keep watching, I know you find me irresistible.
I have no hate for you, don't kid yourself., irresistible, more like repulsive!!!!! Do you actually believe the condition of your tanks is providing your fish with the best living conditions? Seriously, not hating on you, I don't even know you, but I do know what fish require and what they deserve. My commode is cleaner than any of your tanks. Your fish would be better off living in my commode than in your fish room, I am dead serious about this. If I had a CZcams channel that told people what to do to maintain their vehicle in good working order and my engine oil looked like sludge, the air cleaner was full of all kinds of crap and the coolant had huge chunks of rust and corrosion floating around in it. Would you actually listen to anything that I had to say regarding a vehicle? I think not, the same is true with your channel and the conditions of your tanks. If I need any advice about how to keep my fish healthy, which I don't, I am going to listen to someone who has clean tanks, water that is clear, clean and the parameters are in check, and the fish look healthy. Have you ever watched one of your Fishy Folk Videos? Nevermind this is obviously a waste of time, go get yourself another snack and a beverage while your fish are choking on their own feces!!!!
Later
Well since my fish breed like crazy I will respectfully disagree.
My one show tank is “clean” like you think it should be, but since I couldn’t care less about what you think, I’m not even going to link the video.
Keep watching though, I know you love it. ❤️
Apparently it was too much trouble for you to SHOW the HOB while you were bloviating about all your complaints about it sitting behind a desk 6 feet away. You youtubers are a mess. So lazy.
Well I am good at at so........what do you want to see anyway?
