      You're totally right. But I met Charon once on a night out in Kirkcaldy and I can assure you he was anything but chill. He'd done a load of really cheap speed and he was everything, everywhere all at once. I like him a lot - he's totally sound normally - but that's the last time I get on it with him. He's kinda mental on the whizz.

    Yeah, Charon is a creepy Grim Reaper-looking death figure, but at least he's a consummate and professional ferryman who does his job. And he doesn't bore you with desperate chatter!

      the whole act with Medusa is iconic; practical effects ad to the immense tension and horror. It is something that the remake failed miserably at recreating.

    Charon minds his business. So he took you to a secluded island with two guys; Charon doesn't judge. He picks you up later, alone and with a woman's head in a bag but he doesn't ask questions. He gets paid and does his job.

    I love the fact the God of War series, even though it's about revenge against the Greek gods, they still paid tribute to Charon and Perseus from this movie in particular. I couldn't believe Harry Hamlin actually did the voice of Perseus in God of War.

      No wrong. He knew exactly where they were going. He also knew that all those warriors etc. That that he took all the YEARS PRIOR had took the trip over there and NONE ever made it out to get the ferryman to bring them back. So- that look said DUMB-ASS BITCHES....oh well this will be number however many of them add 3. Well 2 Perseus made it out. Thats why he would have went ALONE!!! Fuck him and the Princess. The line must be drawn at being turned to STONE.

    Being a ferryman must be the definition of living hand to mouth. I mean he gets like what, a penny for every journey he makes? Probably only does a few trips a day. Likely has to put up with a fair bit of hassle too. And tips? Forget about it. I suppose the good thing is that his only overheads would be a new paddle now and then, and the occasional boat repair, and probably a new cloak every few years. I tell ya, it wouldn't be me.

    I was terrified by this when I saw it at the cinema as a 7 year old in 1981 and it's still quite atmospheric now!! The effects are incredibly dated of course but for me that's part of the charm.

    One of the best parts of the movie because it sets up the mood for the upcoming near-death challenge Perseus must face.
    Bad luck for his soldiers though. Perseus wasn't so much protected by the Gods as he was protected by 'main character status.'

    Who pays the Ferryman? ,Charon was creepy ,According to Greek mythology When you die Charon the ferryman ,Takes you over the River Styx to the realm of the Dead ,Hades ,For this he must be paid ,The question is who will die ?The music was creepy also 💀☠️ Especially for myself aged 8 in 1981 Being introduced to this classic with Ray Harryhausen special FX ,Now at 50 still a great movie with Well known actors like Harry Hamlin ,Lawramce Olivier ,Burgess Meredith ,Tim Piggott Smith and Judy Bowker as The Beautiful Andromeda to Neil McCarthy as Calibos and Maggie Smith and Ursula Andress who were all legendary in this.

    Charon has been promised by the God of the Underworld that he can be freed from his role as ferryman once he fills a boot with coins. Every night Charon deposits his coins in the boot. However, the dark God has tricked him by putting a hole in the bottom of the boot so his coins slowly slip out into the abyss so that Charon will never fill the boot and will never be free.
