  • Over the last few years, I’ve managed to push beyond this belief that I was behind in life, and I changed many of the habits and thoughts I’ve developed that kept me stuck-not only physically in life-but stuck in this belief as well.
So in this video, I'm sharing the three changes I made that helped me get unstuck and stop feeling behind.

Hey Ronald, I appreciate your work and dedication, and it shows through in your video! One part of the video that resonated most with me was changing my mindset. I have studied Carol Dweck's work and the idea of having a Growth Mindset. By implementing a Growth Mindset, one can view failure as an opportunity to improve in the future.

“Why rush?” This is the part that stuck out to me the most as a young woman finishing up college and about to move on to the next step. I’ve been thinking about this question a lot. I’m in a good place in my life (new job that I enjoy, family life is good, I’m comfortable) and I found myself trying to rush through this phase of life instead of really living in this chapter. This was just solidifying that I need to chill and fully enjoy this chapter of my life.
Also, the social media thing. I have recently (2-3 months) decide to just log off of my Instagram (the only actual social media I have) and not give my time and energy to it, and I have been happier, more productive, and really been enjoying my days. Social media is a distraction, time waster, and a confidence killer a lot of times. Even if you don’t try to feel a way when you see other people your age doing things you want to one day and feeling less than, there’s still a little voice in the back of your mind that compares you to everyone and robs you of confidence and contentment. Also, a lot of things that trend are foolishness and or futile. I rather live my life in the real world instead of trying to be successful on a social media platform.

I have my first appointment with a life coach therapist today and it is timely that I listened to this as your words have given me some great insight and even as considered a senior adult I can make positive changes and have the most quality of life. Hello, I’m 62 years old. When Covid hit I was displaced out of my apartment, I lost my job at the same time. I’ve had my things Storage since then. I have since 2003 want it to live a minimalist life. A friend of mine sold me his 27 foot travel trailer, and I’ve lived in it since 2001. I absolutely love it. My thing is is that I have so many beautiful things in storage, my mom passed away 2019 and she had a lot of little knickknacks. And also friends have given me over the years little gifts. Because of your videos, I’m able to face the challenge of letting go! I honestly believe that God led me to your videos. I will continue to watch them as long as you put them out. I’ve told my pastor and my family and friends about you. I only started watching you a month ago. I ran across your videos Last year, I watched half of one and didn’t watch it anymore. I know it was because I wasn’t ready. Thank you so much for being so candid. And this is going to sound funny but thank you so much for not having loud music behind you, you are straight into the point and that’s what you mean. Thank you thank you thank you and may God continue to bless you so that you can continue to bless others

The Tolstoy quote, specifically the part, "...to keep going when the going is hard and slow..." caught my eye. It gave me some semblance of relief as I am realizing that all the mistakes I made along the way were just part of my journey to get where I am. At my lowest, I felt like a failure and like I was stuck, but being on the other side of a lot of those struggles has opened my perspective and taught me that we need to be patient when things become "hard and slow" to push beyond to better ourselves. Thank you for the commentary!

  • @lynneplis4793
    @lynneplis4793 Před 2 lety +5

You and I are at widely separated stages of life. I’m retired. You are at the prime of your adult life. Yet the struggles are the same. What really matters and how do I measure it? Do I need to measure it? I think of the parable of the little girl and the starfish. A man meets her on the shore. She is throwing beached starfish back into the ocean. “Why do you bother,” said the man. “There are hundreds of starfish. You can’t make much of a difference in their fates.” The girl held up a starfish, threw it in the water and said “ I made a difference to him.” I know I won’t be a world famous singer- songwriter. But I can still sing and write. I can touch a few people. And that’s alright. Peace, my friend. You are making a difference

Recently, I've been thinking about this in detail. I was feeling like all the effort and work I was putting in wasn't really yielding much results and then I remembered the seasons metaphor. That in life, just like with the weather, there are seasons and you can't force summer when it's the middle of winter. Each season has it's purpose and you can only be patient with it.
I also realised that the idea that it was all up to me was as bad as believing that all it takes is 'hard work'. By thinking I had all the control, I was driving myself to the ground. Now I've pulled back a bit, basically 'let go and let God'. It's definitely helped to reduce stress levels.
This was such a well put together video. I especially liked the tortoise and the hare analogy. Brought it all together nicely.

Thank you so much Ronald for this conversation. More than anything you promote a mindset of looking at struggles with fresh eyes rather than assuming something is wrong with us and it can’t be helped. That in itself can provide renewed energy and motivation.
I really liked your perspective about the tortoise and hare story and how it could be a competition with your own expectations rather than with someone else. That metaphor rings true!
You asked why we should be in so much of a rush. I think this question dovetails well with the minimalism mindset. A lot of the rushing that I do is about trying to keep up with too many things at once.
Love your videos, you really get to the heart of things!

Whew I needed this today! I turned 38 last month, divorced, lost my mom last year, and in mountains of debt. I started a new job a few months ago, and although it’s the most money I’ve made, I know it was God sent because I needed that salary to be able to pay my bills. That’s all I’ve been able to do however, I haven’t been able to save, or dig myself out of a debt where I’m able to live. I feel I’m just existing and not living. I’ve tried dating, and don’t even get me started there. I had a convo with one of my best friends about feeling like I should be further along in life especially when it comes to living it. I do feel behind, I had this idea in my 20s that I’d be married and enjoying life with the person God made for me in my 30s. But the part about maybe I’m not ready for what I truly desire is humbling. I have to find a therapist, however, I’m not sure how to pay for that yet. My goal I want to measure include, living life, filling my own cup, stop feeling sorry for myself, figure out how to get out of debt, curb my spending, and heal (working on a blog to document my journey).

I think if Roosevelt was prescient about social media when he said “Comparison is the thief of joy.” The stuff you scroll through is a carefully curated and often an outright false depiction of people’s lives. When I find myself feeling like I’m not measuring up to others who have more money, better health, or whatever, I remind myself that I am enough just as I am. And other folks’ successes or advantages in no way detract from my own life. I’m a big believer in accepting being good enough -I do my best to be a decent parent, wife, friend, therapist - and that’s exactly who I need to be. And honestly, after many surgeries and chemo, I am also deeply grateful to be here and have zero desire to rush through whatever time ahead I might be given.

I’ll be 28 years old in a few weeks, and man…I thought that I would be somewhere in life making 6 figures and more, with an amazing beautiful wife and maybe 2 kids living somewhere with a great cost of living that I can afford to live financially comfortable and maybe even financially free, but man was I wrong. I’m still trying to find my life, my purpose. These days it’s hard to make a living especially with inflation and high gas prices, high homes and apartments. I don’t want to blame anything but myself. I want it to be over.

@@ISGSAGE look at different skills you have or a service you can offer others. If you can provide value that people need you can create an income. Also don’t be afraid of things like Uber/Lyft or any other service similar to these. Can help you make enough to cover your bills are you search for another job. Lastly, when if comes you managing money. If you don’t have an emergency fund yet, build one as soon as you start creating a consistent income. Save 3-6 months of your monthly expenses in a separate account. This money will sit there in case of an emergency-like the one you’re experiencing now since you lost your job. This money will help you cover your needs until your income starts up again. I have a playlist of about 36 videos so far on personal finances here: czcams.com/play/PLAlWMJnA9Dcfp3-El1jkH_taRSA-cTQOS.html

I’m about to turn 30, and I absolutely feel this pressure.
I’ve been sick my whole life, so I don’t have the same things other people around my age do. In fact, teenagers still at school have ‘achieved’ more than I have.
I’m coming to the realisation that it doesn’t matter. Yes, I might not have those things that everyone wants, but I’ve also had more than a decade of relapse and remission to deal with - and they haven’t.
I’ve just been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, as well as another brain condition, and that will change the way I can live my life. I have to focus on my health right now, so who knows, when I’m older I might have all of that sorted out and everyone else won’t. Maybe the tables will turn, maybe they won’t, it doesn’t matter. I’m running my race solo, I just need to worry about me.

Comparing myself to others is the the #2 reason I kicked other social media platforms. #1 was obnoxious people.

Social media can be obnoxious at times. I agree! I’m happy you broke your ties to it my friend! Keep growing on your journey!
