    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
When Dan (Michael Douglas) says goodbye to Alex (Glenn Close), he soon realizes that she has slit her wrists.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
"Fatal attraction" has become a household term for love turned to murderous obsession, thanks to the success of Adrian Lyne's 1987 movie. Dan (Michael Douglas) is a family man whose one-night affair with Alex (Glenn Close) turns into a nightmare when she insists on continuing the relationship, claiming to be carrying his baby. Alex systematically terrorizes Dan, even temporarily kidnapping his daughter, in her attempts to win back his affection. Douglas' besieged family man guiltily tries to preserve his marriage and family from the consequences of his own indiscretion. Close's performance as the love-struck psycho-siren remains her signature role: She conveys the buried feminist message of the film in her challenge to Dan to take responsibility for his sexual behavior. Though many critics acknowlegded the film's striking similarities to Clint Eastwood's 1971 film Play Misty for Me, Fatal Attraction spawned numerous other movies about middle-class families besieged by a lone psychotic intent on infiltrating and destroying the fabric of the family unit, including The Stepfather (1987), Pacific Heights (1990), The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992), and Fear (1996).

    Cast: Michael Douglas, Glenn Close

What was required of Glenn Close in this movie is astonishing. The ranges of emotions and ups and downs and the physical parts is rare. A complete performance that is rare.

Love this movie! Glenn was amazing as Alex! She was 40 in this movie and I really like that they went with an older women instead of the classic super young mistress! I think it gave the movie a nice twist! Also I don't feel bad for Dan at all, I only felt bad for his poor wife and kids who unfortunately had to deal with his stupid mistake! He was 100% at fault! This film is still one of my favorites!

Doesn't anyone remember that during dinner, Dan told her, his father took him, when he was a child, to the opera to see "Madame Butterfly". And his father told him, when the part came, that the woman was going to kill herself, and Dan said he was terrified. Plus, they were listening to that music during dinner. So do you see the correlation between that story he told, and Alex trying to kill herself, why that TOTALLY terrified Dan? She KNEW if she cut her wrists, and made it look like she was trying to kill herself, it would terrify Dan, and he would feel so bad for her, and so she could possibly keep a hold of him emotionally.

To me personally he was very cold to her after having sex so she had a right to give him the boot. She afterwards felt bad and liked him so much that being a puppy dog wimpering sorry was overpowering the fact he hurt her. Sadly this was too familiar for Alex which drove her over the edge, she knew better but she allowed this to happen. Which made Alex slit her wrists just not to make him stay but to express pain that she took on herself...the pain of rejection after being used. Alex went through this many times and men used her, yet she always feel for the same type. (That frustrates and depressed Alex)That had already built up and took an heavy toll but she hid it well, behind those pale curls. By doing this In My View made him actually keep away from her! He stayed because it was the right thing not because he cared. Dan never cared for her and was mean at times, and she was kind. He wanted no attachment with her just plain sex but she grew emotions..sadly to a jerk who didn't care nor wanted them. To me she could've done better than Dan....

Alex shows all nine of the criterion of Borderline Personality Disorder. She is ill. He was under the assumption that it was a one-night stand, she got attached and went after him and he was too weak to say no because while he didn't care for her, he still felt responsible for what might happen to her if he left her alone. Alex literally killed his child's rabbit and cooked it, then tried to kill his wife. She started to disassociate with reality near the end of the movie and sincerely believed she was Dan's wife, I wouldn't pity her too much - they were both messed up people.

She has a severe, severe personality disorder that is not being treated in anyway shape or form, and appears to be having psychotic breaks in reality. There are very little to no relationships that will be happy and joyous indeed these circunstances. She needs a psychiatric hospital stat. Borderline Personality Disorder takes decades of therapy to treat adequetly, assuming they follow through with treatment and medication to mitigate symptoms. It can improve over a very long time but...I’ve had my share of borderline women and....oh, my.....I never cheated on anyone orwith anyone but, they can turn friendship into a marriage in no time. Then your evil and a stalker, they’ll drive 40 miles to places near where you live, then get angry at you. Any sense of abandonment sends them into, total chaos and you do what you can. However, they don’t wear badges stating this. So usually your dating or just friends with someone and you soon begin to sense they are loosing their sense of reality. It is frightening, add substance abuse and...the games and drama is, I mean, oh my god. It’s no joke. Bipolar can be treated with medication, most Axis I diagnosis exempting schizophrenia are effectively much easier to treat, because the biochemical imbalance can be identified. Axis II “Personality Disorders”, however are generally a 2/3’ds environmental, adaptive behavior based and 1/3’d biochemical...and poorly understood. So, medication only goes so far to treat a “Personality”. Therapy is required and self awareness is also required. Without this...it’s sad because you can fall for someone and want them to get better and believe they are, but the cycle just repeats and you have to distance yourself to keep your life from being destroyed in the love-hate process. Because they will destroy other people’s lives if they get too close if they are not being treated and under very very stringent and intense therapy. It’s sad.

To think this kind of thing actually happens for real. Man I tell u I have made mistakes with the wrong woman but thank god I never had something I could not walk away from. Cant even think if I was in a situation like this with a fucked up girl. The guy was stupid but bet he never thought this would happen!

This scene always confused me, because one second Dan is in his OWN apartment, the next - he's saying goodbye to Alex in HERS!?

They show him in his apartment shortly after this scene and right before the wife arrives and he’s getting rid of fridge leftovers and making it seem like he spent the whole weekend in there when in reality he had been with Alex the whole time.

Actually she's better looking than Anne Archer. Only thing wrong was the perm in her hair made it look too frizzy.
