    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Dan (Michael Douglas) defies Alex's requests (Glenn Close) and threatens to kill her if she tells his wife about their affair.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
"Fatal attraction" has become a household term for love turned to murderous obsession, thanks to the success of Adrian Lyne's 1987 movie. Dan (Michael Douglas) is a family man whose one-night affair with Alex (Glenn Close) turns into a nightmare when she insists on continuing the relationship, claiming to be carrying his baby. Alex systematically terrorizes Dan, even temporarily kidnapping his daughter, in her attempts to win back his affection. Douglas' besieged family man guiltily tries to preserve his marriage and family from the consequences of his own indiscretion. Close's performance as the love-struck psycho-siren remains her signature role: She conveys the buried feminist message of the film in her challenge to Dan to take responsibility for his sexual behavior. Though many critics acknowlegded the film's striking similarities to Clint Eastwood's 1971 film Play Misty for Me, Fatal Attraction spawned numerous other movies about middle-class families besieged by a lone psychotic intent on infiltrating and destroying the fabric of the family unit, including The Stepfather (1987), Pacific Heights (1990), The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992), and Fear (1996).

    Cast: Michael Douglas, Glenn Close
    Director: Adrian Lyne

What I love about films like "Fatal Attraction" and later "A Thin Line Between Love and Hate" is the theme is the same: don't play with people's emotions. You never know if you are dealing with someone stable or otherwise... and even if they are stable, you can break someone and a broken person can become unpredictable. Always best to let someone know up front what the deal is between the two of you and even then, be careful.

To me this movie illustrates what it's like to be alone for so long that you don't really understand what you are missing. So the loneliness is tolerable. Then when you do get a taste of a real connection...it's a ray of sunshine and hope. Then if that sunshine is taken away...that sad place you live in is now even sadder cause you have been recently reminded of just what you're missing out on in life and there is no way to force it back. That can be unbearable for many. Even if Dan was single and still rejected her, I believe it would be the same outcome for her. I always argue this movie isn't about cheating as much as it is about rejection.

How did Cher win best actress for “Moonstruck” over Glenn’s role in “Fatal Attraction”? I don’t have nothing against Cher but the academy must have some issues. This role is unforgettable in every way. It’s brilliantly done, and Glenn made the character believable and tantalizing. Her energy and breathing when she dialed that phone. I can’t understand and never will.

I think Alex is a tragic character and her apartment is so white which means death and I think she was dead inside and somehow when she met Dan she came alive then when Dan played with her emotions she didn't like it! (everything) He chose the affair, he betrayed his wife and child, cheated on his wife and child and on top endangered his family. Yeah Alex "feels him, tastes him, thinks him" (Psycho) but its also sad seeing her left out and alone like that. He made a huge mess without knowing how to clean up after himself. Also his wife forgives him maybe because of the child but some women wouldn't tolerate that kind of shit and leave the asshole alone miserably for the rest of his life. But I would kill someone who kidnapped my kid cuz thats messing with my baby. Anyway. His selfish fault and her psychoness. I'd leave them both fighting it out till they kill each other. That being said, how could you even hope to raise a kid with a mother that unstable to the point that it could harm their child? She shouldn't even be allowed to raise a child unless she gets professional help. He should definitely pay financial support, but he does kind of has the right idea for not wanting to become personally involved in parenting the child because of how ruthless she can be.

The wife put a stop to it, so one could argue he was even unwilling to take responsibility right up to the end-but that is a little harsh, I'll admit. One of the things that bothered me with Fatal Attraction was how easily Dan picked Alex up at that party - or, how easily she picked him up. In either case, he was the one who had the 9 year marriage and the young daughter. Yet, so easy to pick up. That tells me it had happened before while he was married. Michael Douglas said that in Fatal Attraction he cheated on a beautiful wife for a woman not that attractive, so it wasn't Alex's looks. Biggest flaw in the movie, as far as I'm concerned, that they wanted us to believe he cheated only once.
