If white plays Kh2 then will be checkmated: Ng4+, Kh3, Nf2+, Kh2, Rh1+. So instead of Kh2 white has to play Ng1 and then the ‘a’ pawn just is marching forward, white can not stop it.

@Daniyar Nugmanov because the white king and knight is stack in the corner and if the rook go to a6, then the black king go to f2 and the black king, knight and rook together will checkmate the white king or if the white rook helps to the king, then again the ‘a’ pawn promotes to queen. shaking hands when agreeing on draw and when declaring a winner seems pretty much same gesture to me, so how do they get whether other player did this for draw or resignation? i mean at this high levels in most cases player already knows whether it's a draw or win, but still, isn't there any confusion? and also, when placing kings on black/white at the end, what if loser puts them in his favor/draw? who's there to catch that?

I must disagree with some guys here... I don't know if you already shared a full version - if so, I beg your pardon. But the 'thinking time' tells so much about the game that the cuts really make it a poorer history, entertainment... if someone hates wait for moves, while using this time to think for yourself about the game and challenges it poses at each move, he or she can use a pgn software and be happy. Of course, classical chess games are another history - but rapid is still palatable in full time. Feels like it is 'lacking something'... But thank you anyway for this excellent game ;)

If white continues there are only 2 moves; If he plays Kh2, Black continues with kg4 with a check, white Kh3 and then black kf2 one more check white Kh2 and rh1, it's checkmate. The other alternative is to block the check with kg1 but as knight covers the King it can not be moved anymore. Black is clearly very comfortable in this position so he can continue with pa4... From this situation white has very limited moves, (moving pawns or moving King). As you can see none of them make sense :) But for those who can not understand, this is how the game ends; If white moves the pawns he loses them simply, or he moves his King to h2 black continues with moving the pawn (a3, a2, a1) It's a inevitable win for black. :)

Sergey was very lucky that Alireza wasn't in his best mood that day, otherwise Alireza would never accept a draw in such position... He would at least have played few more moves. And I'm pretty sure if they kept playing Alireza had big opportunity to win. This is my opinion. Have a good day cuties, cheers.

i have to ask,why do super gms feel the need to waste 20 seconds per a move in the opening when they are certainly in prep? i mean in this game, it was a najdorf, theory of its lines is second nature to the e4 player as well as black (let alone the world's elite), so it's not like your going to fool your opponent into thinking you are out of book . is it basically just for fun?
