      Positional play like alireza did is much easier to played in blitz time control, because idea is to construct a structure that is formidable for your king safety then wait for opponent blundering, with this there must be several logical line move that already in your head, make you play faster. Instead of tactical play with 1 blast/2 blast move which is very difficult to found in top level, it only burn the clock.

    • @dilshodjonvakhabov2414
      @dilshodjonvakhabov2414 Před 2 lety

      The reason that the rook in d1 can easily put pressure (check) on black king if supposed move with black rook on e4 is done. That's why Dubov avoided that fatal move.

  • @davidgirsvaldas8725
    @davidgirsvaldas8725 Před 2 lety +11

    whats the idea behind a4 a5 by Dubov? Is it a useful waiting move to see where Alireza pieces go?

    • @sethrose1325
      @sethrose1325 Před 2 lety +21

      The a-pawn push works in tandem with White’s fianchettoed light squared bishop. The pawn wants to harass the base of the pawn chain blocking the bishop at b7 and create long term weaknesses on the light square diagonal. It also gains queenside space giving the rook further scope. If black plays a6 to stop that pawn it would create holes on the dark squares. The cons of this plan is that it takes time away from development and if Black is allowed to develop properly then the white a-pawn can actually become a target.

    • @sethrose1325
      @sethrose1325 Před 2 lety +13

      Furthermore, if a player wants to make a waiting move he generally won’t opt for a pawn push because pawn moves are the most committal moves in chess (pawns don’t go backwards). Making a waiting move with a pawn will usually occur in connection with some type of endgame tactical scenario, not the opening.

      If any beginners are looking for online chess lessons hit my line 😅

    • @friedrichvolkmann
      @friedrichvolkmann Před 2 lety +2

      The idea is that the inclusion of 6.a4 a5 makes 7.Nc3 more attractive for White because Black no longer has -c5 options (either immediately or as a mid-term plan after first -d5) due to the weakness of the b5 square. I saw a Russian with 2490 or so (back then an impressive rating) play this in a First Saturday tournament in Budapest in the 90s (I think the game continued 7.Nc3 d5 8.Ne5 and then e2-e4) and liked it so much that I later applied it myself with success. Of course, the Firouzja game proves that Black is in no way obliged to stop White's a-pawn, but most players do because a white pawn on a5 takes space and the permanent threat of pushing it further to a6 can be quite unpleasant for Black. This is the same dilemma that White has in the 6.b3 a5 line where White doesn't want the Black pawn land on a4, but also doesn't want to weaken the b4 square with 7.a4.

    Jesus Christ, Alireza absolutely destroyed Dubov in that game. Dubov played a questionable opening and Alireza punished him for it. At first with just his knights and dark bishop he locked whites queen side up, and later with his queen side pawns he stopped whites attempt at promoting his passed pawn, and then ultimately finishing off his opponent by getting a passed pawn himself which he promoted to a queen. White made a feeble attempt to try to promote his pawn still but Ali was prepared for it. Alireza with another dominant performance!
