- World no.2 Alireza Firouzja (FRA, 2656) was up against Ukraine's top junior, Kirill Shevchenko (2508) in Round 9 of World Rapid 2021. Firouzja managed to catch Shevchenko's mistake and he was cruising towards victory, until he missed his theoretical win in the rook endgame against his opponent. Eventually he figured it out.
Find out where did Kirill go wrong and when Firouzja initially missed his opportunity in the rook endgame.

🤣🤣🤣
😁😁😁 like magic, not even David Copperfield
ok Mr Funny guy that's a good one lol
0:26 Magic trick at the chess board.
🤣🤣🤣
The R & P vs R endgame is drawn position. K cutoff by 1 file, and P hasn't crossed 4th rank. Black needs to execute the frontal defense properly.
Shevchenko knows this standard idea, but forgot some detail. Fatal mistake was 13:50 Rh8+ (Ke5 attacking the R needs to be played). Two important things to remember 1) Keep enough checking distance from front and 2) Attack the R with K if it tries to protect the pawn.
Thanks for explanation. Not much idea what you are talking about but I agree 😁
That's y Firoujza has got 150 points more.
U dont have idea how i learned from video and ur explanation, thanks
That analysis is absolutely correct.
Thanks for the explanation, but what exactly do you mean by keeping enough checking distance from the front?
@@amoghnath3330 it means keeping enough distance to check and avoid getting attacked by the king in the very next move
In the Soviet Union they'd have both been sent to rook endgame school for a fortnight after that. It's surprising how hard the 'basic' rook and pawn v rook endings are; I remember Magnus losing one, harder than this, against Aronian when he was young.
Pause at 12:17, just after ali played Rf5, considering the time constraints on both of them, kirill could have jostled for a drawish possibility with Rg6 which i feel is worth the risk

What an endgame ! Love it.

Mistake, should be draw

Alireza’s endgame techique has reached perfection.
Not really. He missed Kh6 the first time
What?
No thats Magnus
What a grind!!!
czcams.com/video/1I610M1_suw/video.html
That was a battle!!
True
in 16:15 shevchenco should have brought the king closer to the pawn to F6??
What a endgame alireza 🖤
And we fight on touch to move staff 😭
So where was the mistake? 13:50 Rh8+? looks wrong. Ke5 was better. If white plays Ra4, then just Kf6 and if Rf5+ Ke6 repeating the position.
thx picasso but ur no duchamp
A pawn makes all the difference.
An ideal game by Firouzja illustrated solid opening, knowledgeable middle game, and incredibly amazing endgame skills
Lol not good opening. Shitty middle game. And difficult endgame
@@billmy2251 Just because you put "lol" at the beginning of your sentence, it doesn't mean you said something funny, witty or remotely intelligent.
Do you understand you little pumpkin?
@@XerxesGammon200 just because u are a patzer that's not my fault. I walked the game thru engine. Shitty game by all means. Firo missed a lot got an equal game. Tried all possibilities for endgame and in the end sucsseded calling it a good game with incredible amazing skills is a joke. Simple principles in the endgame every 2200 player knows it. What a joke u patzers are
Hassan unfortunately on ending was drow and Alireza had mistakes, but Shevchenko couldn’t find the correct move
@@billmy2251 It's funny you don't see the irony in your statement. Your observation of the match alone wasn't adequate, but after running it through a bot, you unequivocally concluded all aspects of the match played by this 2800+ player was "shitty" and had no value whatsoever.
I stand corrected! Your bot analysis was riveting!
All those 4 letter "S" words you used made a huge difference. Very informative .... 👏
Thanks 😂👍
NICE!

7:44 peekaboo move :p
At 7:14, why didn't Alireza just checkmate Shevchenko? (by moving queen to g7)
I just started playing chess for a few months so I admit, I still got a long way to go, which means there must be something I'm not seeing there.
Anyone?
his king was in check
@@kokokokokok6877 I did not notice that at all. thank you for that.

que guapo el de camisa celeste 😮😮😊
yasha alireza
lucena ~best tactic
Terrible play by Shevechenko in the rook and pawns ending. First he should never that let the white king get to the fourth rank. Second, he had a draw if he just keeps moving his king between h7 and g7. When he started moving his king towards the white rook I thought it was over. You have to put your ego in siberia and realize that it is you who are fighting for the draw, trying to win will lead to a loss. Later the engine showed he had draw because of a mistake Rf1 by white, but after white defended the pawn with his rook, the Rh8+ move no longer worked and was the critical mistake, he had to play Ke6 attacking the R. White after a check has nothing better to return to defending the rook and so on. Granted rook endgames are notoriously difficult, but I think that black had a known draw, as passive defense with a knight pawn by keeping his rook on the first rank is a draw. White realizing black made a mistake the last time with Rh8+, cleverly engineered the position again, but now with the rook on a4, but this allows the black king to get in front of the pawn for an easy draw. I think if they have more time this would have been played correctly.
Trying to get the Lucena position
alireza be like: im making so much noise i cant even play... oh wait...
WaAaoooo Double Combo 😘
is there a a DGT err? when Firouzja place his knights on c3 and d3, on the board the knights are facing each other but on the digital board both knights are looking to the queenside OMG
asi juega "El Yotas"
phillidor position at rook ending to prevent lucena
So funny how both of them have no clue of the rook endgames So many mistakes! ))
Very good Alireza 🇮🇷❤️
Menit 17.10 klo saya bisa kalahin putih..
Bro alireza could've easily accepted a draw right there but he took a risk by pushing his king up the board but the rook check saved him
It was basic
There is no risk
Squeezing a win out of a drawish endgame.
That endgame is always a win idiot unless you blunder like alireza did with allowing rook activity
@@magjistariukaj6306 You just had to say "idiot " right? You just had to..
@@NoTalentGuy I would argue "idiot" is too light of a word to say in this case. This endgame where you cut the king with rook and pawn is one of the most common winning techniques taught in every chess school and we have this guy saying the complete opposite .
@@magjistariukaj6306 You don't know the background of this dude. He might be brand new to chess or he trusted the title that somehow indicates that the game was drawn, but Firouzja kept pressing and won. I don't get why people love to be negative. I would have agreed with ya, if you omitted that word :\
@@magjistariukaj6306 Who hurt you?
15:12 Alireza could have played Rh5 Directly in my opinion...
I hate it when they don't shake hands so rude!

That was brutal
Lucena bridge
If at 7:04 balck would've played bishop to E5, It's such a strong move. Blck would be up material and its Winning for black
It also blunders mate in 1 with Qh7

Drawn ending, incredible how badly they both played it.
You would do it better 👍🏾
@@nilsuwewinkler2974 peter george best! ;-)
Lol
Since it was a knight pawn black could have gotten a draw by passive defense, king in front of the pawn and rook on the back rank. This passive defense does not work with the four central files having the pawn but it was a no brainer here, when he brought his king out to attack the rook I was thinking , what are you doing you have an easy draw.
wrong quote lol
blunder....black king must move toward the pawn....instead go away....
first
Atrocious endgame play by both
It was easy for White to finish the game for a win, but at the end messed up
I didn't know Tom Holland played chess !!
he should have followed the family tradition and go for football ;)
Who?
GM can't to do draw, I don't believe it!
