  • Quick explanation of what it does and demonstration of the simple installation. Works for both right and left handed holsters. Have added to new lengths since this video, and we have updated from using nylon to Delrin, which is what Safariland factory plugs are made from.
    If you do not know what plug you need, pull out your factory plug and compare. If you still don't know, send us an email with picture of factory plug (NOT the holster) and what you are trying to accomplish (shorter, longer etc).
    I misspoke in the video and flipped around the 17 vs 19 plug in the video- Glock 17 would be the shorter plug, 19 the longer.

    Been waiting months for you guys to get these back from the anodizer. Can't wait to receive. Safariland expects me to purchase two of the exact same holster for my 19 and 17 when it's literally the difference in the plug. Thanks for making this.

    I have a 6354 RDS holster for my G19. I have been thinking about getting a comp for it, but it will not fit without me either removing it entirely or getting a different plug. I was thinking about a lower profile one like the suarez dark alley comp, or the larger volker precision universal comp. Any thoughts on maybe using one of these lower profile plugs or would it still not fit?

    • @OTDefense
      @OTDefense  Před 2 lety

      Depends on the height of your current plug. There are the two shown in this video and a 3rd that is higher still. If it is the highest one, you may be able to get a comp to work.

    So, I want to get a shadow system xr920 (g19 sllide) and plan to get 6390RDS-2832-701 safariland holster for it.
    Later down the line, I would like to get a ramjet afterburner compensator that, according to the website, makes it the size of a g17. My thought is, would I be best to get the mr920 holster that fits the longer slide and be able to get a longer plug, or better to get the exact fitting holster and a smaller plug when I do finaly buy the comp.

    • @OTDefense
      @OTDefense  Před rokem

      I'd go with the longer holster to ensure fitment, and once you get it pull the plug and buy the next size up MM plug from us, as well as the matching plug size. Safariland did at one point have multiple length holsters, eg: Glock 17 in a 34 overall length and in a G17 length. Easier to go shorter than add more to the holster.

    Does this take up the slop of a 19 in a 34 holster? I’m assuming the foam blocks would help with that but that would kill the functionality of the Portal.

    • @OTDefense
      @OTDefense  Před 2 lety +1

      To be honest I don't have a 34 holster here, but it will definitely take up quite a space, but not sure if it will be enough to mitigate the slop. Yes, the foam blocks can 100% fix it, but not with a Portal.

    Can you completely remove it and still run the holster? I have a 7000 series for my P320's, and since putting a comp on one, the gun will seat deeply but the ALS will not lock. It has to literally be a 1/16 in or less too long. I was wondering if I could get one of these 6000's and just remove the plug so it will seat completely.

    • @OTDefense

      You certainly can, just realize that you are removing some of the structural integrity of the holster.

    • @OTDefense
      @OTDefense  Před 2 lety

      There are some variations of G17 holsters, a standard and a 'long' body that works with the 34. If your plug is like the short one in this video, it will not gain you anything. If it is like the tall factory one, you would be able to make your 17 w/ threaded barrel fit using our .050 plug

      @Redoctane421 Před 2 lety

      @OTDefense it fits multiple without any plug at all. Not trying to be rude, just genuinely intrigued by the exact purpose. Only because all the 6,000 series safarilands I've seen run fine without any "plug" at all. Is there something special it does other than take up space at the end of the holster??

    • @OTDefense
      @OTDefense  Před 2 lety +2

      @@Redoctane421 One can take the plug out as you are saying, and that would allow multiple guns to fit the same holster. Safariland would tell you this weakens the structure of the holster. Take that for what it is worth. I will tell you that depending on your holster/gun the gun may bounce up and down like a pogo stuck while running, and if you play in the snow or mud, you don't have anything to block said snow or mud from getting in your muzzle.
