Fridge lock for RV’s

  • This is how we keep our standard household fridge secure while traveling in our tiny home on wheels. When we removed our 3 way RV fridge from the bus, we lost the lock that was part of it as well. Switching to a standard 120v AC refrigerator was a great move, but keeping the doors closed as we drive our Bus Conversion was a challenge. We solved the issue in the parking lot of a hardware store in about 15 mins by making this. Now our fridge is secured as we drive, yet is easy to access when needed

    I literally spent all day looking at specs and cobbled together this exact setup and now CZcams shows it to me!!
    Crazy GVM doesn't sell the other model without that stupid android tablet or even mention this is possible.
    Great hack!

    Excellent idea. Now I have to figure a way to work on a side by side residential RV refrigerator. Gotta think it through some more!

      We have it on our new side by side fridge at the intersection of the doors

      @LacroixCruiser Really! In the video the fellow has a freezer door on top and fridge door on bottom. Both doors open and close on the same side. Our residential fridge/freezer doors open from the center away from each other. From top.to bottom is 1/2 freezer and the other side 1/2 fridge. Each door is close to 6 inches thick to accommodate the shelving depth. As the doors arr so thick I just can't wrap my brain around the idea to apply the example in the video. 😢

    I like it, quick and easy.. I made something quite similar but not so quick to make, a bit of fabrication involved.

    I am surprised that the gaskets seal over that plate but must be just enough space to not conflict.

    How did you attach the long nut to the plate

    How did you secure your fridge to the RV so it wouldn't move around? I know my current fridge is screwed in place

      It’s wedged in by cabinets and also bolted to the floor

    I went to a hardware store and they did not have any of the items. Can you tell me where you bought the parts? Was the coupling unit a part of the base or did you attach it somehow? How?

    • @LacroixCruiser
      @LacroixCruiser  Před 2 lety

      We purchased all the parts at Ace Hardware. We attached the coupling nut with a stud .

    For the plate did you drill the holes?

    • @LacroixCruiser
      @LacroixCruiser  Před 3 lety +1

      They are the existing holes for reversing the hinges.

    We have a new rv and are having this issue. I’ve watched your video and would like to know where you purchased the fridge lock that screws in or the pieces you used to assemble it. Thank you, Chris

    Excellent idea!!! How do you keep all of your contents from banging around and breaking the plastic trays in your residential fridge?

    • @LacroixCruiser
      @LacroixCruiser  Před 2 lety

      We keep it full.

    • @dma9646

      I bought extension tension rods (like fir hanging curtains) from Amazon. Used across each and every shelf in freezer and fridge to keep items on the shelf. Minor adjustment for width of shelf, perfect fit!! When parked to setup I used to open the fridge to make lunch and the contents had shifted and fell out in a pile of bottles with Ketchup, dressings, butter, Pickles. Well you get the picture. Good luck.
