    I love watching machines like this. Plasmas are cool too. I did a temp job at a waterjet place. Was shocked seeing water cut through thick metal.

    It's crazy to me that water under that high pressure can cut right through metal. Interesting how there has to be water underneath or the water jet would cut a hole right through the floor.

      The water isn’t actually cutting. It simply gives velocity to the abrasive garnet.

      depends on the machine. where i work we have a 60 000 psi or 6000 bar machine.

      The abrasive garnet in the water does most of the cutting.
      They use pure water for cutting soft things, like vinyl.

      Depends on the pressure, your nozzle condition and the abrasive used, I own a 100K PSI machine and use Garnet as abrasive at full power I can cut thru 4 inch armored steel, fairly slow speed and you use an asston of Garnet, not a cheap machine to use for everyday use, these werre primarily designed years ago to cut exotics, ceramics, fibers, (though fiber constructs can delaminate)

      Parts cut like this have a slight problem with un-square edges. The water jet cut line is not perfectly perpendicular to the surface of the part, because the jet starts to spread out the second it leaves the nozzle.
