  • Vinyl Dens: where we check out cool music rooms from across the Vinyl Community, and around the world.
Interested in being on a future episode of Vinyl Dens? Please send your submission to channel33rpm@gmail.com. Make sure to include 5 to 8 clear, well-lit photos of your space and gear, including long shots and close ups (horizontal pictures preferred). Also include a bit about yourself (name, age, where you live, how long you have been collecting) and information about your room (where in your home it is located, how you put it together, special considerations, cool features, etc) and your gear. I will do my best to get as many rooms as possible on future episodes; however, please note I do get more submissions than I have time to show. Thanks!

The turntable will always be a sexy instrument. It can conjure up any myriad memories and fantasies even. I not only listened to my records but I watched as they played and cycled.
The 30s & 40s was a fertile time for auto record changer design and development. Slide and drop changers, and the elite Capehart flip over changer which indeed played both sides of a 78 rpm record. There is also the Philco beam of light which implemented a photo cell pick up to reproduce your records; a veritable predecessor to cd playback.
Check this out, fellas. This is a fascinating technology.

So many vinyl dens to envy ... so little time. Currently my small collection and associated gear is in an entertainment center. I would love to have my collection in record store style bins where they're easy to flip through and find things. Maybe some day. In one of the rooms in he video, the black and white paintings on the wall look more like photos to me. :-)

Tom Q. Public - that CD collection is lit! Awesome! Ray is a LUCKY man: a living room as a music room and even more importantly: a wife who will allow that! I love Greg's EVH-themed record storage bin! Alan (spelling?) has quite the grown-up look. Simply elegant. Raymond really maximizes his space. What a cool jukebox. That would be a life goal! Keep the record room videos coming, as it is nice to know - and good to tell my wife :) - that I am not in this thing alone!

PS . . . talking about snaps & pops on records . . . Sometimes I get so used to a pop or snap during certain songs on my records, that when I hear the song on the radio, I'm like, "Wait a minute. Somethings missing!", LOL!

I'm in my early 40s. When I grew up it was all about CDs. Vinyl was seen as something old people and weirdos. In 2000 I worked at Tower Records and it was the height of CD sales. So for people who think CD buyers are strange, that's how vinyl buyers were viewed then. I enjoy both formats and I enjoy certain artists and certain albums where I buy both CD and vinyl and hear the differences between the formats. Just enjoy the format you like most. For those looking to expand your music library, CDs are the way to go on a budget today.
For fun try holding an old CD in a jewel case to a new CD in a jewel case and see the difference in weight.😎👍✨🗿

All the rooms shown seem like a lot of fun. I do have an observation though. If you love the music and have the luck to have a room dedicated to it. ALL the rooms need to sort out the speaker placement. The chap in Durham, UK has the best idea. Space the speakers out further and put them on stands(if bookshelf speakers). Don’t put them on high shelves. You’re missing out.

I also used to go to Eugene to go to Skip’s. They had a good selection, and it was closer to me than going to Portland. There’s a used record shop in Corvallis, but it’s not very big and doesn’t have a good selection. So, now that Skip’s is closed, I’m forced to go to Portland to get used records, which is a major drag.

Jason Hess It wouldn’t surprise me if Skip’s sold their records and CDs to HOR.
