    Hello Frank, thanks for letting me be part of this. Much appreciated. You did a great job editing the pictures and loved your commentary. Look forward to more episodes. It's always great to see other rooms, colections and gear. And if you ever find yourself in The Netherlands, don't be a stranger. You're welcome anytime! :-)

      Theres no such thing as can't, and many different ways to go about it and completely agree. My music room is in the lounge, yeah theres a little give and take what i can have but its certainly possible and the whole family gets to enjoy it.

    So, I don't have a record room. I started my re-entry into vinyl by finding a Dual 1257 turntable at Goodwill for $14.00. The thing worked great for about a month and then developed issues. The big one was playing backwards. I found a Technics SL-D2 for $40.00 that was missing a counterweight. I set that up as my primary table and put the Dual away.
    I work out of my basement most days (IT geek), and listen to CDs on a Sony Discman most days. Well, 2 weeks ago, I decided to try and bring the 1257 back to life. I bought a new cartridge for it. I found an online post about swapping out capacitors on the motor to fix the backward spinning. I bought a new belt. And, for the most part, it works again. I then ordered a ART DJPREII Phono Preamplifier and grabbed an old pair of Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 speakers out my garage. Threw the whole thing on table in my basement next to my desk and now I can listen to vinyl all day while I work (well, except when I am on conference calls.) But it's so nice to be able to spin vinyl all day while I work.
    And even better.. I gave all my records away in the 2000s to a coworker. When I bought the Dual, I texted him a pic of the turntable, and HE GAVE ME ALL MY OLD ALBUMS BACK. I didn't ask for them. He just told me to come get them. So, 3 days after I got a "new to me" turntable, I got an instant record collection.

    Brother Frank...i remember it was you who gave me the heads up on that Dio Boxset for under 100 bucks. Glad i grabbed it...Wanted Strange Highways on vinyl. Lots of guys out there like the pricey gear...its all about liking the older stereo stuff for me , awhile back i hooked up some white van speakers i bought when i was 17. haha. The guy did a nice Led swap on that Sears receiver. I did the same bluelight LED swap to an old JVC unit about a year ago. cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      @Channel33RPM  Před 4 lety

      Oh man... vintage gear rocks Lee. I love the late 70s especially. White van speakers... love it!!! I remember in the 80s these guys used to hang around the beer store, hawking stuff from their vehicles. Every time my dad went to buy some Labatt's, someone tried to sell him something in the parking lot, haha.
      Have a great week.

    Music lovers listen to music the way people watch TV. We like to sit down, put on a record or CD and just sit back and enjoy. I often sit on the couch with the liner notes in hand trying to discern the different instruments in a song. I still remember the day I sat down and REALLY listened to the song Blue Jeans by David Bowie and realized there was a xylophone in the song. It was magical.
    Sadly, there is another set of "audiophiles," which I like to refer to as "gear collectors." You never hear them discussing the music they listen to. But they'll talk for DAYS about the equipment they use to play the vinyl they never discuss.
    That's what I really like about your channel, Frank. Sure you talk about gear. But it's obvious to me you'd rather spend your money on the music than constantly chase equipment upgrades that will add little to the listening experience. Though I have to say I am very jealous of your Realistic vintage receiver score. That thing is a beast. You can spend thousands chasing that 10% increase in sonics you may get going from your gear to "next level" stuff. But who cares. If I had a few thousand extra dollars, I'd rather buy a bunch of grail LPs and CDs than more gear. What I have is more than good enough.

    • @Channel33RPM
      @Channel33RPM  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you Andy. Funny you mention the Realistic. It was acting up, so I took it out of service earlier this year. It was nothing crazy... the treble control stopped working. I am going to being it into the repair shop in the next week or 2, to see what they have to say.
      Cheers

      @@Channel33RPM Vintage gear needs TLC. I got a guy on the other side of the state (I live in Pennsylvania) that will fix things for a reasonable price if I am willing to ship it to him and wait. He has my Realistic STA2600 and is slowly bringing it back to life. He sold me a Yamaha A520 amp for a really good price that I am using until the STA2600 is done. I lke this A520 so much, I don't know if I want the STA2600 back! The phono stage will do MM or MC.

    I love the last room. Quite minimalistic and pleasing to the eye. Nice looking system too, but lights on a system are not a requirement for me. I currently don't have a full system at the moment, but hope to correct that next year. Cheap second hand is good too. Having too many recordings late in life is not necessary either as work and time restraints restrict hearing them all which is unfortunate. I also loved the Linn LP 12 in the first room. Brilliant video Frank which I thoroughly enjoyed.

    If you can find an SL1200GR (and the money) get one. In stock form its much more revealing and refined than the 1200 Mk2 and there's still room for minor upgrades such as replacement head shell, mat and interconnects. The GR will also do justice to a better cartridge, I have a Benz Ruby Z on my own and its one of the better turntable packages I've had, I should mention that previously owned turntables from Systemdek, Roksan, Michell and Avid. All my previous models were spring belt drives and whilst they performed well enough none of them match the SL1200 for clean leading edges at the start of notes or the pitch stability. This seems to be the thing I'm most sensitive to as a listener and thats why I've now settled on the direct drive system, I hope you get to hear one.

    Hi Frank, personally id forget about the 1200 mk7 and get the stripped back 1500c (if and when the times comes for you), it comes with an amazing phono stage to boot, easily handling more expensive carts like the 2m black for example. AND if the itch really hits! The on board phono stage is defeatable allowing for more elaborate out board units to be used. A Truly nurture proof purchase that is currently the best bang for buck turntable technics do. IMO..... great vid with some amazing systems

      I also have my eye on the 1500C. I will try both out. I wish the 1500C did not come with an Ortofon Red. I think it sends the wrong message to include it (it undervalues the turntable in my opinion). There is nothing wrong at all with the Red. But I expect something better (or no cart at all), on a $1000+ turntable. I'm glad to hear about the phono stage. I will definitely audition this turntable. Thanks for the advice!

      @@Channel33RPM Well i have no experience other than what i have but this table seems to have been tuned for it ( the red/ortofon that is, from what ive read) many reviewers saying its the best they've heard the red sound. (look up John Darko's review not review he explains it really well on his channel)
      What i do is use the red cart for second hand records to see how they play and i use my black for the rest of the time. Or you can just swap out the stylus for the blue. But yes i feel it should have come with at least the blue. BUT the phono stage on this table is really where the extra money has been spent.And you would have to spend around £600 to heard worthy difference.
      I think all in buying from a dealer with a little discount here and there i got the whole lot for around £1250 with a new heads shell for the black and the cart itself.
      Sitting down and auditioning the tables nothing else came close to the technics in terms of value and the sound and it holds up really well against the 1200gr which really does need an outboard phono stage of around 300 quid to make it start sounding pretty sweet (and i struggle see/hear the difference between 1500c and the 1200gr other than being Japanese made).
      Both the mk7 and the 1200gr both require extra out lay of a cart and phono stage. Options options! either way any of them will last you a life time

    I'm currently working on my Vinyl Den. I have a few pictures to hang and some furniture to move around and i'll be set. I'm by no means an audiophile, but thoroughly enjoy listening to music on vinyl. I started collecting in the 70s/80s as a kid. Then in the past year and a half started back up. I've now amassed about 600 records. I'm thinking of purchasing a Fluance turntable. Probably the RT84 or 85. I already own the Ortophon 2M Red so i'll probably go for the 84 for the upgrade to blue. I love your videos and your content. I'm not a fan of heavy metal, but seeing your passion for music alone is truly exciting. I'll submit my Vinyl Den pics shortly. Hi Frank. Just stumbled over this older vd, and would love if you would do another round of subscribers set-up's. I'm an Audiophile and spend my time in various HI-FI sites and communities, and that's a lot of fun for me. But after seeing a lot of your vd's, i have some kind called in love with this community, where there is not the same amount of shame bashing and negative comments, as i see a lot in these Audiophile communities. I'm sure you guys also are into good sound reproduction, to hear your favorite album in it's best manner, also with a mid priced set-up. So please, do not tell me that sound doesen't matter, as i'm use to hear when debating why i spend that amount of money on my stereo. I know for a fact that sound matters to the most of us, and now or days, you can get a decent set-up for under 1000 USD, so what i'm saying is, it doesen't have to be crazy high prices. And look at some of the rooms here, where you defiantly come across some more heavy and expensive set-up's and it seems that we somehow have some common ground here, and for me that's very pleasefull to see and read. I will surely stay tuned for more. Cheers from Denmark

      I suppose it would depend on the DVD player. I tried this for awhile (with a cheaper DVD player), and it did not sound good at all. It was dead and dull. It might be a different experience with a better DVD player. If you have a few extra bucks, it may be worth hitting the thrift store and finding a dedicated CD player (they are usually $10 to $20... around here anyway). Good luck man! It all comes down to what sounds best to your ears.

      Channel 33 RPM it completely depends on the DVD player, as well as how you have it hooked up. I found an Oppo
      DV-983H at a thrift store for $10 and the sound is amazing. It has full support for SACD and DVDA, and I don’t even have a TV connected to it, using it strictly for audio. I run the coaxial digital output to a Sony PCM-2700A DAT deck, and it’s coaxial digital output to my receiver.
