Stefan, I love how your style is so European. The bread, the props, the accent. You capture the style perfectly and you do it very well. Thanks for sharing!
I have become enchanted by this knife! I always enjoy watching your channel; you are very knowledgeable, and I always learn something through each of your videos.
What a fascinating knife and history. Thank you very much for sharing, Stefan. Your knife videos always have the same impact on me as the documented "mallard effect". If I am equating your videos to bacon, trust me when I say that's the highest compliment I could give you, sir. I'm American and we love our bacon, brother. :)
The situation in England is similar to the one in Germany. There are only a few traditional cutlery companies left in Sheffield, the capital of the British cutlery industry (comparable to Solingen in Germany). As far as I know there hasn't ever been a knife that has become as iconic to England as the Laguiole knife has become to France. However, in Scotland there is a very famous traditional dagger called Sgian-dubh.
With all the hoopla about tactical knives, it's nice to sit back and watch one of your videos and be reminded that G10, "fixed blade like strength" and assisted mechanism isn't always that important. Some should be said about classical craftsmanship as well.
Very nice video, giving tribute to a longlasting piece of crafting art... btw : I was born there some years ago, (66!) and everyone, in my family, had a Nontron pocket knife. I still have old models (inherited from my parents) the factory no longer makes today... 30 yrs ago, the small factory was about to shut down, when the "Forges de Laguiole" Co. bought it, impulsing a new era, rejuvenating the design and marketing process : modern models are quite nice (without sacrificing the building quality) , especially the ebony handle one, I offered one of theses my son and grand-children, just to pass on the torch. The meaning of the pyrograved symbol still remains unclear today : some people say it's arabic, some say it represents honeybees...No one REALLY knows.
Stefan - No worries my friend. You are a real supporter and encourager and I know that without you commenting on every video that I make. Keep up the great work that you are doing, my friend!
A very beautiful knife and as always a superb quality video review. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing this insight into french cutlery history!
A very balanced and fair review, the association with cutting food, is what this tool was for, nothing else, it is more a companion to enjoyable times!
Loved the handle animation! I always feel like I learn so much after watching one of your videos. Do you feel that the handle thickness is too large for EDC purposes (imprinting on pants)?
Thank you for your kind words, Ben! - It's great to know that you watch my videos although many of the knives that I review are not so easy to get hold of in your country.
Great review. I picked that same model that you are reviewing about 2 years ago, it's held up great to regular use and carry, much prefer it to an Opinel, really you can't compare the quality
To keep the video short I skipped the details of the company history. In the very beginning there were several cutler families in Nontron. During the 19th century there were two families (the Bernards and the Petits), and after WWI only the Coutellerie Petit survived. In 1992 the company was bought by Forge de Laguiole.
Und das Beste ist: Für die Herstellung des Griffs wurden keine putzigen Tierchen wie Micartas und G10s getötet.- Vielen Dank für Deine Komplimente, werter Namensvetter!
With such a detailed review it's hard to come up with any questions to ask that have not already been answered. Are they a family owned business? Best one I could come up with. Amazing that any company could survive for so long, even though the French Revolution. Of course knives might have been in high demand at that time. lol

Thanks for stopping by, Tim! - Sorry, I didn't comment on your linerlock video series. I really enjoyed all parts. I admire your technical skills!

Another lovely traditional knife. Thanks for sharing it with us, Stefan.
Wie immer, Stefan - eine wunderbare Vorstellung!
Vielen Dank! So macht der Feierabend Freude!
Very nice! I love Ebony wood for handles. My Buck 110 has ebony handles too.
Classic, elagent, nostalgic, and simple. Love it, Stefan!

You always review beautiful knives! Thanks for such a wonderful review, Stefan. Keep up the great work.
An excellent video as always. I'm already looking forward to the next one. Thank you.
Wieder ein schöner Ausflug in die französische Messergeschichte. Sehr lehrreich und unterhaltsam. Mit einem Wort, toll.
With all the hoopla about tactical knives, it's nice to sit back and watch one of your videos and be reminded that G10, "fixed blade like strength" and assisted mechanism isn't always that important. Some should be said about classical craftsmanship as well.
It would be a waste of time if I reviewed ugly knives. ;-) Thanks for watching, Keelen!
I enjoy the incidentals often more than the review itself. Thanks for posting both.
Very nice as usual Stefan! Love the knife, love the music. It's like a little vacation!

You are the classiest knife reviewer on youtube.
I always enjoy your work.

One of my all time favourites. Nice video!

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks for your appreciation! The history behind knives is the most interesting aspect of knife collecting to me, too.
Very interesting video as always. Love these unique European folders.
Thanks for another informative and entertaining video.
The knives look beautiful and now I`ll have to get one !
Loved the handle animation! I always feel like I learn so much after watching one of your videos. Do you feel that the handle thickness is too large for EDC purposes (imprinting on pants)?
LOL Yes, American bacon is the king of "makes things better when put on top". So I know to appreciate your compliment!
Thank you very much for your kind words!

A very unusual looking knife when closed. Thanks for another very good review. Cheers Stefan.

Great review, and beautiful knife. For some reason the hadle reminds me of a fountain pen.
I must say that I prefer the traditional "sabot" shape in boxwood. Boxwood was the original wood choice.
Thank you! Exactly my thoughts!
Thank you for posting your video as a response to mine!
Very unusual but legal - even in Australia. ;-) Thanks for stopping by, Mark!

Great info , great review as always
love the tactical onion cutting lol
Pretty cool knife.
I feel like I should be paying you for your work. Thank you.
Thank you!
Thank you! - Since the knife has the shape of a thicker fountain pen I wouldn't recommend carrying it in your front or rear pants pockets.
Tolles Messer. Ein Klassiker.
Very interesting, exhaustively. Thank you.

Another Great Video Stefan :) Dein Franzoesischer akzent ist auch sehr gut!
Mfg,
K
Vielen Dank, Tito! Liebe Grüße vom Niederrhein!
Excellent review. Now I'm hungry.
great review! thanks!
enjoyable as always...

More beauty, gut Doktor. Isn't time for another family snapshot off all your knives? Would also love to see how they are stored.
Yes!
I know, I know. People keep bugging me for a collection update video. I'm just too lazy.
very interesting knife, its the 1st time seeing one, are there dealers in the USA that sell them? or do i need to order from a European site?
this knife from NONTRON is not specially attractive to me... but as usual your video is super great.
guten tag and hello !!
LOL
Ok, let me be more precise: I have to be in the right mood for making a collection update video. At the moment I don't feel like it. ;-)
Thank you for the review i really enjoy your videos, however you often cause me to want to spend money
I guess the black handle almost makes it a tactical knife. ;-)
Love your vids, you sure cut a lot of sausage... Ha Ha
Always with the sausage...
*maillard effect
Yes, I agree. The quality of your videos indicates extreme laziness. At least by German standards.
Yes, go ahead, I can send you my PayPal email address. LOL
