From ‘Anti-India’ Motion To ‘Internal Matter’, How UK Labour’s Kashmir Stance Changed Under Starmer

  • Britain’s new Prime Minister Keir Starmer has promised to boost relations with India. Starmer’s re-election has also put a spotlight on his Labour Party’s Kashmir stance. Under Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership, the Labour Party interfered in the Kashmir issue and sought “international observers” in the Indian region. However, when Starmer took over the party, he called Kashmir an internal matter of India and said the resolution of the Kashmir issue should only be done by India and Pakistan.

Colonial powers always placed themselves civilisationally above their colonies, even if they are not colonies anymore. There's no reason to think that it would change with a Labour government as they would always challenge the human rights record of Indian Democracy. The UK is tied into the US's geopolitics by virtue of NATO membership, and all the US's enemies become the UK's too. As India doesn't see it the same way then the UK will always come down on India. His party earlier had resolved to this effect for placing independent observers to obtain information relating to the ground situation in Kashmir.
The recent abrogation of article 370 by a controversial decision given by the Chandrachud bench of the Supreme Court depriving the Kashmiri people of their special rights call for a special attention and review of the matters all over again.

With British Indians Sunak, Suella Braverman, Priti Patel, etc, all booted out of British government, Britain has to rethink its relationship with India. India is backing Russia and sending mercemaries to fight in Ukriaine and will soon be making weapons for Moscow. India also sent assasins to murder Sikh dissidents on British soil considered a brazen act but because of America's insistant that Britain under Sunak cannot take action to sever relationship with India because the latter might come in use to counter China. India has recently shifted its gold reserve from London in anticipation of downturn in relations fearing the UK might freeze its asset if ties turns sour.

@@JohnAdams-vd5dc Its the truth. Not just in Britain, it happend in Canada and USA were Indian government sent agents to murder Sikh dissidents. Canada's Trudeau in Parliament called India's behaviour a threat to its sovereignty while America Congress is urging Anthony Blinken to send a strong message to India. This is worse than Russia poisioning its former double agent on British soil a few years ago.

INDIA seems reticent to display sense of uneasiness when dealing with Foreign Countries. India should have Confidence and Self-Assuredness in dealing with issues which pertains to its NATIONAL and SECURITY INTERESTS. THERE MUST NEVER BE ANY COMPROMISES WHEN IT COMES TO INDIA’S SOVEREIGNTY, TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY, NATIONAL AND SECURITY INTERESTS.
