Hi! There are several ways to reset the password for a local account, and today we will look at one of them.
This is a fairly simple method, it works without programs and it will work on Windows 11, Windows 10 and Windows 8.1
It's actually a big problem when you can't open your computer.
You are trying to remember your password, but it doesn't work. You can reset your password and come up with a new one, but you didn't create a special password reset flash drive.
Do not worry, look carefully, repeat exactly after me, step by step, and we will succeed!

This works. Was a Windows 10 user and either my password got changed or hacked so I unplugged from the internet just to be on the safe side. Tried the Shift-Reboot strategy to get to command prompt and other settings but all those required the password that didn't work anymore. Thanks, this was a good learning experience.
Due to the latest updates from Microsoft, it became possible that in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 the command prompt can only be opened using a bootable Windows USB flash drive, otherwise the system will require a password.
If you do not have such a flash drive, you can ask your relative or friend for it, or you can make such a flash drive yourself, but this requires another PC, making a flash drive will be free:

@ipMalik my flash drive option also not working...when i opt for locksmith its flashes a message "error opening account database"...this all happened post windows update..
@@nipun1561981 I'm not sure if your Windows USB flash drive is properly made.
I do not have such information that using a bootable Windows USB flash drive it is now impossible to open cmd.
Your problem seems to have a different cause.

thank you for the tutorial. my acer laptop is a pain, i need to switch to legacy in order to boot on windows CD installer then after all your instruction i need to switch agian to UEFI in order for the command promt to appear while the CD is still in the CD rom. big thanks boss.

I did not get user name after entering net user command and if i try to do first method then after selecting config it shows me system option and when i selrct that option then it shows me many other options plz help me i dnt want to lose my data

1. You made a mistake in one of the steps and now you can restart your computer and go all the way from the very beginning.
2. Perhaps your Windows is controlled by a Microsoft account.
Do you know what account you have on your PC?
local or Microsoft?
It is important.

I followed all the steps properly but when i got to writing my account user name at the very last step next to the * it didnt know a name it only said guest, so i tried to use that and it didnt work.

I see all these "Thank You" posts, but there are a few things missing. i.e., where do you get a USB Bootable drive or CD, since these days, Windows comes preinstalled on the computer, and never comes with any kind of a disk or USB drive?

Great vid. I have a bit different problem- I need to remove a pin ( not password ) do I enter different wording into the command prompt for a pin?
Maybe your Windows is running a Microsoft account.
Do you know what account you have on the PC,

@@ipMalik I have pin and it works....I combined 2 video...yours and other one to get to CMD ....
There's a file in System32 where u have Ur OS installed....is call UNTILMEN....you have to find a way to access that file and rename by adding just a letter then refresh your the System32 to locate it....once u find that file...u need to locate CMD also and rename it as UNTILMEN....refresh and locate it in System32....
Then close all and restart Ur PC and locate the EASE ICON...there u can access Ur CMD system 32...and u can use ipmalik video to complete the process....Goodluck

ipMalik...This seemed to work on one of the computers I have, but I have several computers that this is an issue. on the 2nd computer when I get to 4:29, in the registry editor and "Load Hive" there are only 2 drives listed C: which is the USB Drive and X: which says "Boot." ?????????????
This PC has a serious problem...
Most likely, your Windows disk is encrypted with an application like Bitlocker and this method will not help you reset your password.
You can ask a computer service for help, but I'm not sure that they will be able to solve your problem.
My recommendations:
1. If there are no personal files on your computer that you would not like to lose, then you can open the system recovery program and use the “Reset this PC” function without saving personal data, as a result, drive C will be formatted and you will get a new Windows, new account, Windows activation will occur automatically:

2. If you don’t want to lose your files, you can create a bootable Ubuntu (Linux) flash drive, then boot your PC from this flash drive and in the menu that opens you will see:
"Install Ubuntu"
"Try Ubuntu"
There is no need to install Ubuntu; in the installation menu you need to select “Try Ubuntu”.
After this, the Ubuntu Desktop will open, and you will find your Windows disk there. You can open your Windows and transfer the necessary files to another disk or flash drive.
There is no 100% guarantee that you will be able to open your Windows, but you can try if you need your important files.
After that, you can use the “Reset this PC” function or simply install a new Windows using a bootable USB flash drive of Windows 10 or 11.
I followed all the steps in the video, and when the process was finished and restarted, nothing changed. It asked to enter the password. I have a question, if it can be answered. When I opened the prompt in the end , there were in front of “Administer” my name, and in front of account number was the word “Guest” . I did not understand which words should write it after system 32 / Guest or My name

I do all the steps also from your other video, but you never tell anything abaout pulling out the installation USB. When I leave it there it loops and goes back to installation menu after restart, so no luck with cmd line with C:. When I pull out the USB it goes back to windows with users I forgot thew password to. So no help for me.

1. The created folder in the registry editor does not affect the further work of Windows in any way, the cause of your problem is different.
2. I did not understand why you want to boot a PC from a USB drive, for what purpose are you doing this?
If when you boot your PC you see a message that there is no OS on the disk, it means that in the BIOS, in the Boot section, in the boot priority, the settings may have gone wrong and for some reason your disk with Windows is not in the first place.
Enter BIOS and check boot settings.

@@ipMalik I don’t want to boot from the usb drive. If there is no usb or external drive then it boots up fine. But if I have some usb or external drive plugged in then the machine wants to boot from the usb.
