So many famous female vocalists, including Linda Ronstadt and Wynonna Judd, owe so many of their best songs to Karla. I simply love her and have for 40 years.
Every generation has it's performers who could have been considered great, except they got compared to someone completely out of their league. How many women never got a chance because they could never even come remotely close to Linda Ronstadt? Tens of thousands. Same with boxers when Ali was fighting, or centers when Chamberlain was playing. You hear Linda sing, and think, 'Oh my god, why do I even bother'.
simply WOW!!! and Happy 77th Birthday Linda... no date when this was done but by looking at Ronstadt's dress must have been between "83 and "85 because that was Ronstadt's Standards dress...how about having Linda Ronstadt as a backup singer...frigggen AWESOME...Bonoff was probably one of the better song writer's and a decent singer of our time her and Jimmy Webb also come's to mind...prayers for Linda...amen
Both these girls deferred to one another. It is quite clear here Linda is deferring to Karla and why not? its her song. Linda is clearly enjoying herself and clearly that gorgeous musician standing beside her is her consolation prize (if she needed one).
Not sure why blogger get a thumbs down for saying they love Wynona's version of this song. Wynonna nails this song, it's beautiful. I love Karla and Linda, two great female rockers. I also wish LR would return to her roots.
linda made karla nervous. :) i love how professional linda is. but i could tell she hoped for more smiles/acknowledgment from karla and the band during the performance
SUCH A MONSTER TALENT - SHOULD'VE BEEN A LOT MORE FAMOUS THAN SHE WAS, IN FACT MY FAVORITE FEMALE SINGER SONGWRITER.........YOU DON'T GET LINDA SINGING BACK-UP FOR YOU UNLESS YOU KNOW YOUR SHIT, AND SHE PLAYS PIANO AND GUITAR AND WRITES EVERYTHING, THE ONLY OTHER ARTIST IN HER LEAGUE IS DOLLY PARTON !!!
@@BlueRidgeKat1 she hardly made linda "rich and famous." Linda was already a superstar before she ever even met karla bonoff in 1976. She had her first hit in 1967 with "different drum", 2 platinum and 3 gold records to her credit, 10 hit singles and had won a grammy award in 1975. And honestly, folks really need to check facts before spreading false information around. People often exaggerate how much of karla bonoff's work linda covered. Throughout linda's over 50 year career, she ONLY recorded 6 karla bonoff songs, and only 2 of those songs made the charts, "someone to lay down beside me" (a modest hit in 1976) and "all my life", Linda's duet with Aaron neville in 1990. So as you can clearly gather, it was not karla bonoff who made linda "rich and famous." It was linda who made linda ronstadt rich and famous.
No disrespect to Karla, and I have loved her music (and singing) since the 70's (yes I'm old), but Linda (my favorite singer - saw her in '76) could have sung the phone book and people would have payed!
@@richardscott4318 Maybe that is the case for Linda doing gigs for Karla and vice-versa, but the Aaron Neville is an absolute tragedy and embarrassment to great singers and blew away the competition to "All My Life". His fruity falsetto ruins everything and is just a lost cause for Virtue Signaling.
Wow! I had a big crush on Wynonna Judd in her carefree macho 80s big-hair days when she covered this song, somehow totally missing that it was a composition of Karla's, who I had an even BIGGER crush on in the 1970s. Thanks for this.
i so love the screw up, lots of bands have to stop but the real pro's keep on going, even when its going off a cliff. these two ladies are among the best America has to offer, so happy to listen to these amazing voices and written songs, dont know them but I bet their great people too! Just an educated, experienced guess.
Wow. Didn't know Karla wrote this. Thought it was exclusive, Wynonna. New to Karla. And her song Standing right next to me. Is in my opinion one of the most beautiful songs musically and lyrically of all time.
Both great singers, Linda though, in a class of her own. Have never understood why Karla didn't, hasn't released more quality material at her height. Same applies to other true talents such as Jennifer Warnes, Bonnie Raitt- maybe record companies are to blame.
Wynona's version is good, but it's a carbon copy of Karla's arrangement. They even had Karla come in a play the guitar intro on Wynona's session. Wynona's version does have more balls to it mainly because of Wynona's ballsy voice. Great song.
@goodwineguy what's interesting....both of them started their careers as back up singers! Linda has sang back up for Bonnie Raitt, Karla Bonoff, Phoebe Snow, Carole King, James Taylor and a host of others as have a cavalcade of other performers. The vocal blendings is what you want to watch/listen for. for a good example, listen to "Married Men" a duet by Linda Ronstadt and Phoebe Snow broadcast on Saturday Night Live. AWESOME.
I agree with Phoebe/Linda on SNL with both songs they sang, one of my favorite performances because of their blended voices. Linda also does a great job of matching, not just blending, her voice to whoever she with.
I adore Karla, great songwriter, but she's not a natural performer -- that's why Wynonna's version is great but couldn't exist without K-- you gotta take the good with the bad here. Personally, I love how cool and supportive Ronstadt is about Bonoff's flub going into the song. That's a pro. A real pleasure to watch overall.
i kind of agree about the performer part..though her songs are usually so good..she just stands there and sings them..pretty lady also..linda was always stage fright prone..
Karla so humble and so over the top talented. It is now less than 10 hours away from 2015. Does anyone know what happened to Karla. I'm probably asking something painfully obvious but would like to know...
Where's the electric guitars audio in this video. It's not in the audio track that's with this vid. Must be from a stereo recording and the left just got uploaded with the vid bummer.
too bad the techs in charge of video and audio did such a crappy job for someone so talented. For example the beginning sound mix and the lead guitar can't be heard!
No... Linda was extremely popular during the Vietnam era (1965-1969) when she was with the Stoned Cold Ponies, and then she broke out solo during the 70s
i dont get people who view an artist and talk about another. why dont you nice folks just move on to compare destinys child to the brothers gibb. what a fucking joke!!
I think Karla does a nice job on this song but I don't think she does as well as Wynnona. Frankly, I don't think it is even close. I don't think she has the vocal range or tsings with the emotion of Wynnona.
KB knew how to write songs but she was a horrible singer. She should stick to writing and let other artists record her material. Linda singing back up here is wastes an opportunity. She should be singing lead.
So many famous female vocalists, including Linda Ronstadt and Wynonna Judd, owe so many of their best songs to Karla. I simply love her and have for 40 years.
Oh, me too!!
And me, too.
Linda was always generous in supporting other artists and didn’t mind letting other vocalist take the lead vocal..
Karla wrote the song!
These two are incomparable talents. Too bad Karla doesn't release more albums; she's amazing.
Another catchy pop number from KB who never gets the respect she deserves.
A wonderful artist who should have been more widely celebrated and recognised.
simply WOW!!! and Happy 77th Birthday Linda... no date when this was done but by looking at Ronstadt's dress must have been between "83 and "85 because that was Ronstadt's Standards dress...how about having Linda Ronstadt as a backup singer...frigggen AWESOME...Bonoff was probably one of the better song writer's and a decent singer of our time her and Jimmy Webb also come's to mind...prayers for Linda...amen

Great song and performance !!!!! 🥰them both!!
(btw Foxes and Fossils do a wonderful cover on this song!)
Way to go girls! Youre both in my favorite list, all time greats . Did you write that Karla? Love it. A prayer for you Linda.
Not sure why blogger get a thumbs down for saying they love Wynona's version of this song. Wynonna nails this song, it's beautiful. I love Karla and Linda, two great female rockers. I also wish LR would return to her roots.
Linda and Karla - my two favorite singers ! What a treat !
It is great to see these two women together sounding equally great. This is one of my favorite Karla Bonoff songs.
Karla comes in too soon, she and Linda are just laughing,
so cute!
You know to tell when the girl singer is at your door?
She can't find the key and doesn't know when to come in.
Do you know how to tell when a man singer is the substitute math teacher? He’s late and can’t count.
linda made karla nervous. :) i love how professional linda is. but i could tell she hoped for more smiles/acknowledgment from karla and the band during the performance
Fantastic! Karla and Linda together. What a rare video treat. Now, if Linda would just return to rock and roll I would be a happy camper.
Didn't realize Karla wrote this - great song - great performance.
They never turned the lead guitar player up to hear his break. But still, I love hearing Karla and Linda sing together.
SUCH A MONSTER TALENT - SHOULD'VE BEEN A LOT MORE FAMOUS THAN SHE WAS, IN FACT MY FAVORITE FEMALE SINGER SONGWRITER.........YOU DON'T GET LINDA SINGING BACK-UP FOR YOU UNLESS YOU KNOW YOUR SHIT, AND SHE PLAYS PIANO AND GUITAR AND WRITES EVERYTHING, THE ONLY OTHER ARTIST IN HER LEAGUE IS DOLLY PARTON !!!
and Joni Mitchell
pretty good backup ...if you can get it...thats a humble heart
Karla wrote many of Linda's song, including this one! So cool!
Karla didn't "write Linda's songs." Linda sang Karla's songs. The songs belong to Karla, not Linda.
Very true. I was just saying. I've seen Karla in concert more than Linda so you are correct. Linda just made them popular.
Winona had a hit with this one.
Just saw her perform this live a few days ago. Very nice acoustic version. She's amazing. Two darlings performing together. Who can ask for more?!
+Steven Beasley So did Dana Winner (in both Afrikaans and Dutch)
So young, so talented and so beautiful. Karla, you are the one who creates magic when YOU sing your songs.
I got chills listening to this song by Karla Bonoff and Linda Ronstadt!!! Awesome!!!
A great performance by both! Once again. We are Blessed w/ Karla..what a great talent. It doesn't matter who sings Karla's songs...they're all GREAT.
Could'nt agree more. Great writer and singer. Wonderful talent.
A staple of the night time "FM Radio" back in the 70's. Remember Karla so well.
Karla is an amazing talent. She still performs in our area. I never miss a concert.
Saw Karla in 1979 ? In Lake Charles ( Lagrange High Auditorium I think)
Wish they had HD and digital audio back then. Love these two ladies.
I have a heart on for both Karla and Linda......:)
Holy crap, imagine going to a concert not knowing who's playing, and seeing that the girl on stage has Linda Ronstadt for a back up singer.
That's what happens when "the girl on stage" has made Linda Ronstadt rich and famous.
@@BlueRidgeKat1 she hardly made linda "rich and famous." Linda was already a superstar before she ever even met karla bonoff in 1976. just great

This version of the song is pretty good..and Karla is one good looking woman...I like it!!!! on my 4th playback of the vid!
Karla sounds awesome - as always.
My first American Idols... Love'm both so much!! ❤️❤️🎤🎙️🎼🎵🎶
No kidding, Mickey714061! I was a junior in high school in Salt Lake City listening to the Stone Pony--What a great era!
Lana Lorenzen bcktxmtdj
Love them both, lucky to have them more than once-greasy singer, Karla is poet! Linda , none better, ever!
No, Great singers,sorry!
Thank you for seeing the two co-stars for the first time
This Song ROCKS
I just now saw your comment about your cancer, praying for you right now in Jesus name amen 🙏
This is a Song Writer !! Linda, just has to be her cousin !!!!
i so love the screw up, lots of bands have to stop but the real pro's keep on going, even when its going off a cliff. these two ladies are among the best America has to offer, so happy to listen to these amazing voices and written songs, dont know them but I bet their great people too! Two of my favorite singers--they are incredible!! Thank you for sharing!
Wow. Didn't know Karla wrote this. Thought it was exclusive, Wynonna. New to Karla. And her song Standing right next to me. Is in my opinion one of the most beautiful songs musically and lyrically of all time.
リンダ・ロンシュタッドさん久しぶりに見ました。若いころレコードを擦り減る程聴きました。
Love the shoulder pads!!! and I love Linda..
Both great singers, Linda though, in a class of her own.

Awesome song
this would be a good concert if you could hear the guitars.. never the less I can still understand the singing and it is great...
I believe this was around 1989.
Karla Bonoff, te amo linda. Cantas lindo.
Love Karla for ever

Terrific! Thank you for sharing.
リンダロンシュタットとカーラボノフの共演、初めて見ました、素晴らしい!素敵な映像ありがとうございました。
This version sounds better- you can hear the harmonizing clearer.
I believe this was around 1991 or maybe '92.
Wonderful Karla!"
Wow cool
The opening is so funny. Then they kick in.
Does anyone know when this was done ? Wynonna had a hit with it in 1993.
What a treat. Thank you for this video
"Why-aye-aye-aye" is my midweek niggun. Dye-dye-deedle-dydle-dydle-dum!
Fantastic, what was the date of this performance? Thanks for posting!
Love Wynonna singing this song!

Linda was always a lead singer from her early days but sang back up too for many other artistes,Neil Young,Warren zevon etc

I thought it was cute. It shows how so "regular" these ladies are. They could have been in your High School. Real darlings.
i kind of agree about the performer part..though her songs are usually so good..she just stands there and sings them..pretty lady also..linda was always stage fright prone..
@MICKEY714061 I was in 5th grade and I had just heard of The Stone Ponys!
they misspelled it. the group name was the Stone Poneys.
Pretty with great voice. Not a bad combination. One of best female singers to this day
As duas tem vozes idênticas!

Those girls.
Stagefright.

@avilleguy I totally agree with you! Sincerely, BobbyK
is that J.D. Souther singing along?
yep!
彼女は、素晴らしい!
she should have let Linda sing one of the verses...
There is NO female voice that even compares to Karla!
Was this BEFORE Linda was popular?
No.

The band was the Stone Poneys.
Ta Jeff :)
No wonder she missed the intro having the G.O.A.T. as a backing singer..
I bet Eric Carmen could work this .
And of course the guitar players solo is not heard...?????
KB didn't sound very warm and welcoming when she introduced LR...
i dont get people who view an artist and talk about another. why dont you nice folks just move on to compare destinys child to the brothers gibb. what a fucking joke!!
@Tutone66 I just heard the Wynonna Judd version of this song and it really sucks. Nobody does it better than Karla Bonoff
