Hoovie is very fortunate to have Wizard, who owns a repair shop and fixes vehicles. Top of it, is a very good friend.
The guy overcharged hoovie on adjustable struts a few episodes ago for like 600 bucks.
@@lincolnmarklt maybe thats the price in kansas (?)maybe there is a good reason behind it as i'm sure hoovie is far less stupid than he makes out and besides it might be the price of piece of mind or trust that the job is well done ?
@@lincolnmarkltYeah, I saw that too.
To be fair hoovie made the wizard what he is on CZcams where he probably makes more money on than fixing cars
If you have a car collection, or cycle through cars regularly, you have a mechanic. If you're an avid collector, you may even have two of them as full time employees and justify their expense by selling cars. That means you end up needing to get a dealership license, which means you end up with dealer plates and other benefits. Still, it's pretty normal to have a general mechanic that suits your needs.
Oh, and those shocks were properly priced. They're not the cheap shit you bought down at NAPA.
I had a 1994 Cadilac Deville Concours. That car was cosmetically perfect inside and out. First year of the Northstar. The car was in the shop at least every month. I had a good realationship with my mechanic and gave him a big chunk of my savings at the time. I still get nightmares whenever I see a Northstar engine.
yep, my brother got one and its been in the shop constantly.. beautiful era of cadillacs but that damn northstar is an albatross
This concept car has that Midnight Club 3 DUB edition vibe. I love it.
HOUSE REAL BIG
That game had quite the controversial impact on my taste in cars and car modifications
06:56 On the door card it is still ELDORADO (not ELDORODO). And funny thing: 09:37 the Goodyear tires are made in Luxembourg (Europe).
Yeah they certainly put all the time into exterior cosmetics.
Those Lexan quarter windows are badly scratched. Could replace it with abrasion resistant poly. You might be able to polish out the scratches a little with a special poly polish. I was making windows for vehicles for a dozen years and nobody treats poly the way it should be. Clean it only with alcohol and a new microfiber cloth and don't rub.
motorcycle rider/ small aircraft pilot trick; lemon pledge. make sure it's the no oil version.
Just one wipe with a dry rag and it's all over
I don’t know what type of plastic they used on the rear windows of Corvette convertible tops in the 70’s, but all you had to do was give it a dirty look and it would be scratched.
Yes agree!
I have always used Mothers metal polish for plastic lenses and soft foam polishing wheel in a drill....does wonders. Then clean with Sparkle glass cleaner with a super soft towel or micro towel.I have been doing this since the 80's
My buddy from Dallas has a 1992 Cadillac Allante coach-built by Pinafore. It was air freighted from Italy at great expense. There's an owner's club in Dallas.
Hoovie and Wizard have a few videos on some Allente's they got years back if you wanna check them out. They both had some fun with them :)
There's got to be a good museum for that car.
We used the "wedges" to increase ride height, back in the "dark ages" of the '60s. I did that to my '61 and '62 Buick Skylark to give the rear increased height over stock. It was a "thing" back then to give a car a "raked" look! The thought was better (?) aerodynamics! You could do ANYTHING to a car back in THOSE days, put "glass paks" on a brabd new car or give it a "performance" tune by modifying the carburetor or advancing the ignition timing, at least in Minnesota!
I believe that I would keep the exhaust tips, but disconnect them to prevent possibly overheating and discoloring the back bumper.
I was thinking the same thing. You could hide some normal pipes under there really easily due to the short stance
Hey, Car Wizard if Hoovie has to install side markers he should use the ones you find on the new Corvettes, they're a lot of new cars using them now so you shouldn’t have a problem finding one with the proper radius.
I sure hope Hoovie follows through and gets this thing road legal. Its going to be one awesome car.
I believe in hoovie
@@regisdixit There are ways around this.
@@smooth6428 "body swapped" or "kit car" huuuuge quotes
Hoovie should flip this to Leno and use the $$$ for more work on his farm! Not like its gonna be a daily driver. Needs to be in a museum! Thanks for another great video Wizard! 👍
For front side markers and turn signals, that chrome bead between the body and bumper could be replaced with an led strip, with a silvered outer layer, kinda like the hyundai sonata’s DRLs.
Similar approach, maybe, for the rear, tuck a body colored strip between the skirt and quarter panels
I love the color. You can make the car road ready your the wizard. It needs a pro charger and replace thos plexiglass things with real glass. The emissions tag can be made from a sign shop. For side markers use the shape of the taillights with leds in the bumper if you have to
I’m in love! I have a thing for GM coupes (I’ve had 5 and I presently drive an ATS coupe). I’ve had that colour too on a CTS - it was called Copper Sunset.
Always wanted an Eldo - but I’ve heard it’s very maintenance heavy.
Don’t listen to people. I daily drive my 2002 eldorado etc for the last 15 years. I have done nothing but regular maintenance such as oil changes, brakes and tires and yearly coolant flushes. I’m up in Canada so my car has 334000 kilometres
@@frankvitullo4925 That’s impressive and good to know. The only car I’ve ever had go past 300k was my first car - a 78’ Chevy Impala coupe my dad bought me (used). Everyone was driving Civics or Sunbirds - but I had my floaty car and I loved it. I still miss it - it was such a good and simple car to fix.
Very maintenance heavy. Sounds like most US cars versus Japanese cars
@@OffGridInvestor Possibly - but unlike Japanese cars, they’re never boring.
Great save Hoovie! Glad to see someone will save & show & maybe drive some miles with it!
I doubt he'll drive it on the street it's not street legal
I love the peek-a-boo moment at 01:55
How do you even get those wheels off? If those aren't hub caps, how do you get to the bolts?
Wheels probably welded to the spindle 😂
9:21 bolt from the inside?
The cap comes off would be my guess. He was just saying they are solid aluminum and not a “moon” disc style hub cap.
That part in the middle with the emblem is a separate piece. It's actually the lug nut cover. There's a tiny hole used to pop it off to access the lug nuts. The rest of the wheel is a solid wheel.
very interesting . cool to see they cheap out on the spring adjustments.
I have a 95 Eldorado. Great car and very technologically advanced for its time. The Northstar in the car shown is a pre-96 Northstar without the COP design and, without the headbolt problem that started with the 96 model year.
So, you're sure it's not affected?
This is an incredible style, thing looks sleeker than an f-22.
That body would make a great drag car❤live the color too🎉
Wow, I thought for a moment Mrs Wizard would have to gain access to the car "Dukes of Hazzard" style. Crazy that a car was built for show and not to be driven. Easy to understand why it was supposed to have been destroyed.
Only if she wore Daisy Dukes
For the emissions sticker, I'd look for one off a junkyard for the same year caddy as I it doesn't look like the powertrain as been modified in anyway. There might even be services for printing replacements as I'm sure they do get damaged.
I was thinking the same thing.
I agree with you, some of those concept cars are just slapped together for outer visual attraction. Some ideas are poorly thought out as you mention filling and changing tires. A side Camera setup as available in some new cars may be a good idea for this vehicle. Great Car for Cars & Coffee, but I would not like to drive it daily.
I can picture Hoovie as an old man showing this off at The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance
Those NorthStar engines were notorious for blown head gaskets due to the use of TTY bolts.
We really enjoy y'all's lists! How about the five easiest and five most difficult heater core/evaporator replacements? I will help start the list, with two of the easiest heater cores. The 78-88 heater GM A/G-body heater core can be replaced without opening the car door as it is accessed under hood on the passenger side. Second would be the early 90's GM full size trucks. I have dome both of these jobs...easily!
Keep up the great great content!
😃
91-96 GM B Body is the same. Heater box can be opened from right under the dash. No panels have to be removed.
I remember the feature in the German Chrom & Flammen magazine, what a twist that it's in my youtube subscriptions, 20+ years later!
New game: Take a drink every time @Car Wizard says “actually” 😆
I think Hoovie is just drawn to cars that become huge money pits.
You spelled "women" wrong 😂
@@lincolnmarklt🫡
That’s ok, CZcams pays for them.
@@br549200 I somehow doubt it does. One of the biggest youtubers in the world (pewdiepie) couldn't afford to pay his mortgage and had to sell his house that wasn't even a big house. When he got another car it was a 15-20 year old small nissan. So with less views, you think hoovie can afford rolls royces and Ferraris and tons of bmws and Mercedes? No way. He's ALREADY a trust fund baby and talks about getting LOANS on the cars he gets.
@@lincolnmarklt my thoughts exactly. How screwed up does a woman have to be to cheat on a rich guy? Dumbest thing is, I heard of a girl up in NY who married a rich surgeon to divorce him when he got cancer 15 years later, THEN claim "financial abuse" because his money was going on cancer treatment not her shopping. She FULLY expected to get another millionaire. As her looks are going downhill. And so many do, even after they've aged and already betrayed a rich guy.
awesome as always.thanks for sharing and taking us along.
Hey wizard... In the door panel they put "Eldorado" a dumb detail...
And how you can take off the wheels?
Center cap comes off
I also use 16x16x1.6 in concrete blocks to fit the (non super low) lifter under my Giulia when I need to change the wheels with the winter/summer ones :D
You could probably register it in some states without side marker lights. They were not required until 1968.
Turn signals and side marker lights would be easy to add, but I wonder if you could get away with red and yellow waterproof LED strips up in the wheel well for side markers? And maybe some waterproof yellow LED strips under or around the headlights for turn signals? Its a neat car...
My dad and uncle both owned Eldo's from that era, dad's being a '99.
Very nice, unbelievably nice ride, plenty of power, and it got 27mpg highway all the time on 4hr trips back and forth to the lake over the years he owned it, the third Eldo he owned, out of 7 Eldos and now a CTS.
It's crazy to think that this prototype is even rarer than the GM EV-1's that were crushed. There's still quite a few EV1's that remain, including abandoned ones. Only one or two are still functional.
cute i believe i've seen one in france (it also looks like a car from a comic book)
He can find someone to lower the car the right way. Not a bag deal.... Pretty sweet ride!
I think those are lift spacers, they spread apart a coil.
I think those are lift spacers, they spread apart a coil.
i used to sell those FLUSH MOUNT VALVE STEMS and they come with 1 screw in adapter and 4 screw in caps. you have to remove the adapter from one tire to the other to fill them. only show car people ever really bought them. they look good but are a PITA to use.
I have a vague recollection of that car being on a CZcams video from west coast customs or similar.
Also a feature in a car magazine sold in England and imported to Australia and newzealand , wheels or auto quest or drive or something
its so futuristic looking. i love it. especially the exhaust and headlights
Could measure compressed spring height with the car at ride height on 4 post lift. Put the strut in a press on a scale and press until height matches with the knuckle busters in place. Check the weight and use 03 CTS(same size and shape) spring options to find one same height at X psi pressure.
1:38 Could you add some LEDs in tight with the wheel well for side markers/turn signals?
Wow. Yeah I've never seen that before. Looks like something u would see only at shows. So cool
I'd like to see you change those tires.. that be a job.. should do a special video on that.. that be a very interesting video
Some current caddies have carbon fiber dashes. My CT6 sport has a carbon fiber in between the leather bits. But the non sport/V models have wood
I bet Hoovie could get this registered in Florida (or a kindred state), no sweat.
It is amazing the bureaucracy to get vehicles on the road even when the drivetrain, crash performance etc.. are the same as a production car. The door poppers shouldn't be too much work even if you had to replace them the door's and everything are already setup to use them.
To put side light (daytime running tights) indicators and side markers would be very easy to french in below the headlights and into the fenders as led strips , yes , more custom work but very easy on the eye , a little bit of extra ride height would not hurt the looks either .
Cool video about a cool car. I have to wonder about overheating and warping the brake discs with those non-vented wheels if Hoovie drives it any further than once around the block, though.
We're in Kansas not California. Emissions are not that big a deal here thankfully. If nothing else, it'll be nice to look at.
Love channel Wizard!
Funny that you mention the ducks. Anyone else remember the Catera commercials where they had that one duck that faced the other way?
I have learnt so much from your channel, now I even know that the Cadillac badge contains six little ducks, I agree with the ladies, that is very cute indeed. I canardly believe my eyes! It reminds me of my time in the Boy Scouts, all the other patrols were named after birds of prey, Eagles, Kestrels, Hawks etc. and our patrol was named Woodpigeons - kind of softly round and coo-coo and easily abbreviated to "pigs". The car is very cool but it remains to be seen how much it will take to make it driveable -but it needs to be saved even as a show queen.
They're merlettes, heraldic symbol dating to the late Middle Ages, Cadillac's emblem was originally based heavily on the coat of arms of Antoine de la Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, which has that feature. However, they've reduced the detail on the design in several revisions in recent decades, so it looks less and less like the original source.
Adam from Rare Classic Cars has done vids with the Cadillac designers from that time. He could setup an awesome cross promo maybe.
Calling it a prototype is a stretch.
It's more like a show off SEMA build.
It was a production Eldorado that was customized by an outside hot rod shop. It was only intended for shows. The only reason why is drivable is because it started as a complete production line Eldorado.
GM never intended to use any of these modifications on any car.
“…..they like the little ducks.” 😂
Cool!! Thank you
Miles on the engine and head bolt issues are not associated. It's a 24 year old car, and while the head bolts may not be lifting, the gaskets are probably corroded, and it's still a ticking time bomb.
Beautiful styling. Nice !
5:44 Mrs. Wizard I think that looks like the trim from the 2002 eldorado Collectors Edition
Grandmother owned a 96 purple on purple caddy deville...9 year old me was very impressed 👌 back then ...but now the 90s cadillac, even the interior looks pretty sedate anymore.
Love the colour on this amazing car.
Front turn signals could be done by inserting amber bulbs into the high beam housings. Side marker lights? Good luck, I'd try fake stick ons and hope it passes inspection. Then remove them...
Add mirror panels with cameras and side lights.
There was a scrapper near detroit that kept some prototypes that were supposed to be crushed too.
Great video! As always. Greeting Mr. Wizard, I followed your advise 6 months ago and I bought myself a 00 Lesabre Custom with 74k miles, so far a bulletproof car and I love it! Much better ride than my previous 02 Camry 4 cylinders. I'm thinking to give that car to my mom, since it's so reliable and I'm mechanically inclined I can take care of it for any issues. My question is... I'm thinking to buy something a little bit more modern for me (2005-2010) any good recommendations? Could be sedan, suv or either a compact. Thanks a lot in advance
Watching the series on Hoovies channel already! Was hoping to get some inside scoop on your video! I learned the suspension is jerry rigged!
Oh was waiting for this!
The builders when messing with the suspension and the flex pipes: "It's not just good, it's good enough."
Looks like someone put new kicks on it. Cool color!
Sounds like a cool car with some light and mirror work. Grab her some steel mirrors paint them and it should be a beautiful legal car
Love the paint.
I love all the enthusiasm in your voices. Like an omish person.
This belongs in a museum
Kansas, emissions, you're joking, right? The only thing this state worries about is the VIN numbers on the body and fenders matching the title and paying the property tax.
Neat rare car! Didnt know this existed. The grille kinda looks like a mid 2000s Chrysler Crossfire grille
Mrs Wiz doing great once again.
Nice review 👍
That car looks as if it was built to order for a film such as "Robocop", or a near-future sci-fi TV series ... might even work as an extra on "Blade Runner" ...
I really love that car!
The party trick with the wooden blocks is familiar to owners of Citroën with hydropneumatic suspention !
Jay Leno uses wireless temporary signal devices on some of his vintage cars. Similar discreet alterations might go a long way toward making this remarkable vehicle practical and street-legal.
What a fantastic car! It would a daunting but rewarding process to duplicate that car on a street-legal Eldo. The color is very 90s. But it certainly fits. Thanks for sharing!
Very kool looking though... VERY KOOL! 👍👍👍
Merlettes not ducks.
I like ducks.
@@CarWizard if it walks like a duck (it can’t, it has no legs ) and talks like a duck (can’t, has no beak) it’s a duck.
I like turtles!🐢
Those rims look epic and body is so so clean Lines 10+++ car wow
1999 was an interesting year for Cadillacs. My brother has one of the 1999 Fleetwood models made by a limo company.
Did you forgot the side window up, when you closed the door? Because it is up when you made the round off the car, but down when it was time for the interior 🙂
I would think it would qualify as an antique vehicle so those should be emissions exempt. They are in Illinois, no testing.
Wizard to make it road legal it needs the indicators at the front it wouldn't be hard to find them but what do you use something that doesn't detract from the style of this very good looking Cadillac
To Get Road Legal ,,FOR TURNSIGNALS ,,IN Front ,The Grille Could be Removed & turning lites could be Back Cut Loaded into Outside Corners ,with amber bulbs in clear lenses & could put small marker lites into sides of bumper bye using flush mount ,,cutting holes or slits into cover ?
This is a great example for a LS swap and rear wheel conversion
Inherited a 99 GMC 15000 and it sat for a year before I put on the road. When started again it made exact same noise. It was the clutch on the ac !! Took belt off ac and went away!
Pull belt and spin pulley by hand and you’ll feel it.
Yo Wiz. Not sure if you read these or not but being they customized the top of the car I'd tend to believe they did not go through the trouble and put drain holes for the sun roof.
Wizard, is it an " X " Vin. I believe th 1st digit would be an x. The cts-v that made a Nuremberg time record, wS bought at auction with a certificate that it could not be street used
I'm surprised you don't call it "el dor-A-do" like the town outside of Witchita. nice to get a deep dive into this. Except for the Northstar engine, I love this car. It would have been even better with a six-speed.
Does Kansas have a “historic” registration? In Maryland anything 2003 or older can be registered historic and requires zero inspection of any kind or emissions.
Honestly believe this car is cool history the paint job tell you the year all it self! Loving the old look just need some new wheels 🤣🤣🤣 I would definitely like own this car sure might have keep dealer plates but there’s way to get around to get a title!!
Have u tried holding in the unlock button to pop the door? Relearn the remotes
In TX as long as you have one mirror it passes, it can be only the middle windshield mirror and pass
