Not Fighter planes. Attack planes. Those are A4 Skyhawks! A = attack, B=bomber, C= cargo, E= Electronic & F= Fighter etc.. Fondly remembered as Heineman’s Hot Rod. He designed a perfect plane. I have over 1700 hours in her.
I was 16 and working as a cook at a resort that hosted the Blue Angels and their families who were in town for a show. We catered a BBQ for them after the show and they were really cool dudes. All of them made a point to thank and talk to all of us staff. They told some really cool stories and answered all of our questions. Unfortunately I wasn’t allowed by my work to take any photos but it was still a great time and a cool memory. 😊
Saw the Blue Angels with my dad, a NAVY Veteran at "Ellington Field" in Houston and what a thrill it was for me to be there and when they came to the segment when this song came on I couldn't have been prouder of my dad's service to this country and to be an "AMERICAN"!!

The lyrics.. the absolutely incredible vocal delivery of Sammy...the key changes are insane as are Eddie's licks over the top of them....the drums and bass are flawless...hard rocking, yet so uplifting. I had the chance to sit in an A-4 when I was in the Navy and that gave me an appreciation for the skill of the pilots that flew these and earlier planes. The navigational system were very rudimentary (compared to modern standards) when these were built and flown. TACAN was a standard tool for finding direction, which is useful but no where near what is available now. The flight controls were very much different as well, not the fly-by-wire you see these days. This flying is real talent, not the plane or electronics helping much at all.
i had a dream with me and my grandson Grady that we were in a blue angels jet together and he was the pilot.. it was a short dream but had some serious impact on me. I could see his little tiny short blonde curly hair sticking out of his helmet.. i felt safe. we were banking left on some sort of a mission together.... and thats it.. woke up during the dream so i remembered it. we have listened to this song together many times and get excited and fly our hands around like airplanes!!!
