  • Anxiety - Is it all about serotonin? If you have anxiety some doctors will tell you its because you have low serotonin. Is it really as simple as that? In my search for evidence I learnt some interesting things about serotonin.

    I just found your channel, and finally information going deeper than the usual. If you suffer from mental ilness, one of the most frustrating things is the low access to information about what is happening in your own body! Thankyou for sharing this and all the effort you put in to this!

      I do my best to go much deeper than other you tube creators as understanding anxiety is the key to beating it. In many of my videos I teach the tools and techniques of CBT in detail as I know a lot of people cannot afford or access therapy. I believe help with anxiety disorders should be free.

    Any respectable neurologist will tell you we have very little understanding of serontonin, we don;t know whats optimal, we know every person has individual configurations that dont correlate at all for example someone with lower serotonin could present far happier than someone with higher than them, we don't understand really how it relates to the balance of all the other neuro transmitters and we can't even measure it effectively to begin with... yet a GP or psychiatist will look you in the eye and parrot an idea that was already dismissed in the late 60s but kept by pharma companies as an easy way to push the drugs onto a patient.

      So true. Now, in 2023, they are admitting it, so we will get a new class of drugs.

    Glad to find this video, thanks for dealing this problem introducing interesting papers.
    Just one minor thing - the texts you inserted in the video are effectful for intuitive understanding so I wanted to watch the visual part of your video while listening.
    Yet the animation-drawing-process became an obstacle for me to do so. Time consumed in the drawing&writing motions is long, the hand becomes annoying as it continuously moves and is emphasized equally as much as the ‘texts’. Also the drawings you used, they are so complicated - which made the vietual hand so busy to move up and down..
    Again, thank you for the valuable information. I send my heart❤

      Thanks for the feedback. Your comments are very valid. This is one of my very early videos. In later ones I removed the hand for text as it does get in the way. Most of my videos these days are not animated. They are mainly talking head style. I have made around 160 videos on anxiety and I think my recent ones are probably my best as I have gone through a learning curve.

    Great video! Any ideas on high seratonin levels? Found an incidental NET tumor and had it removed in April, yet my seratonin levels are still high. Not on any meds or supplements. Can one be born with high seratonin?

      Sorry the only cause of high serotonin that I know about is from medication which is clearly not the cause in your case. But Im no expert in this field. My training was in psychotherapy. An endocrinologist may be able to advise you.

    Great video. Have you looked into SSRI withdrawal syndrome, I think you'll find it interesting.

    • @TheAnxietyAttic
      @TheAnxietyAttic  Před 2 lety

      Yes it can make recovering from anxiety more difficult. I have also seen people get quite bad symptoms like shaking when they start on SSRIs

      @@TheAnxietyAttic Bad symptoms from SSRI/SNRI withdrawal seem to be common. About 50% have significant symptoms and the other 50% have severe symptoms, of which half are very severe and a fraction are suicides. The reason I know this, is I'm still in recovery. I'm convinced I have brain damage from the withdrawal (too quickly).
      I was put on the SNRI for chronic pain originally (12 years ago). Stopping opioids is a walk in the park compared to SSRIs...

    l-tryptophan 1.500mg, 5HTP and cannabis in some people are very good for sleeping and felling better with the anxiety symptons but no drug will cure the problem they just help to go on in life

    • @TheAnxietyAttic
      @TheAnxietyAttic  Před rokem

      Please be careful as people who are already taking SSRIs should not not l-tyrptophan or 5HTP as there is a risk of serotonin syndrome. Cannabis also has risks which I cover in this video czcams.com/video/YdFd83UTD1o/video.html
