How much faster do you think a bike like this would make you? 🚴💨
I would think this would bring me up about 10K per hour. Only because of the aerodynamics and better body position. This is my untested theory.
I don’t need to be convinced, I just need the money
What bike are you running at the moment?
Myself is a 2021 Giant TCR with aerobar 😂
Accepting that cycling is never really going to be a cheap sport, there's no need to buy a brand new TT bike. Pretty much any genuine TT bike will be faster than even an expensive road bike. I bought an old second had alloy TT bike for £350. Even before I did any upgrade work it would have saved me about 30 mins on an ironman.
I just need the bike to be in stock 😭
The Canyon TT bike is BEAUTIFUL.. Canyon needs to ship me one
We already knew the results from previous youtube videos, but we don't know if the power was kept the same in all 3 runs. You might have conserved energy when riding the regular bike while going all out with the featured bike.
I feel like canyon paid you for this video. Why don't you measure the power like usually? The Guy isn't even on an Aero position on his road bike. You don't really show if he keep a good position on his test on the road bike with bars extension. Average speed? Watts?
You only concluded showing us how the canyon was good and "not that expensive"
Agreed. After the first sentence of the video, you know what you're going to get. They were paid for it, that's what the "includes paid promotion" line at the top of the screen means. I wouldn't be surprised if that first sentence and the thumbnail were part of the contract.
Having amazing sponsors like Canyon is how we can continue to produce the best content possible for all our fans 🙌 We hope you could take some useful tips from this video! Anything else you would like us to do alongside Canyon?
Best content is just rehashing the same video's over and over again? You do this road bike vs tt bike every 6 months
You expected them to do a wind tunnel analysis on a bike just to do a 7 minute video of a bike they lent a bloke?
Do it yourself and report back.
Entire video was just an excuse to make an ad for that bike lol
What about the power output ??
Thanks for making this video mate, shame to see all the moaners in the comments. I’ve been riding the 2023 version of this bike (only difference is the stem), and have noticed a couple extra’s which haven’t been mentioned (took me a while to figure out too!).
1. Top tube snake: you can slide your chain breaker, spare links, even the tool kit that comes with the bike into the top tube snake, wedging it in with the other equipment. And a spare tube, rolled up on top of it. I dare say you could squeeze two spare tubes into it, but I’ve not tried.
I’ve got no saddle bags or any other storage at all, everything fits inside the frame. You can’t do this on the more expensive models.
2. Bento box: I can fit ten gels in it. The bottom bracket box is used as a “bin“ for used gels. You can’t do this on the more expensive models.
3. Adjustability: massively underrated advantage on this bike. You can have a beginners position or completely stretch out to a pro level position. It’s easy to get very comfortable for Ironman. Again, you can’t easily get the same aerobar tilt, or BTA bottle on more expensive models.
Mark flexing at us peasants outside his new mansion at the start of the video 🤣🤣🤣
Casa del Threlfall 🏠- Not mark's real home 👀
The problem with this sport is that entry level bikes are costing more and more and aero marketing is making people think they nee at least a md range one. Young people without rich parents can't enter the sport until.they establish themselves in a career.
For safety and some aero some sunglasses...monochromatic...should be worn. Love the video and the fact you added the clip on bars to show that they are not as fast as a tt bike...and with a tri bike you will run better too.
The difference for me was huge. Once I got used to it (couple of weeks), and got a decent bike fit (Matt Bottrill), we're talking 5kph for the same power over my Giant Defy endurance road bike.
I have a defy, did you have race wjeels and aerobars on the defy or was it just standard?
@stpOwner I'm comparing a standard carbon/ultegra Defy, no aerobars, to a fairly cheap second hand TT bike with 40cm deep section wheels.
That's so cool! 🙌 Would you ever go back to a road bike for triathlon?
@@gtn Probably not. I did a few sprints early on, but now I've settled into the longer distance races which I think suit us older people more (62). Barcelona Ironman, last year (final finisher), and this year (hope to beat that). It's pretty flat, well suited to a TT bike. Possibly do Valencia half next year, still on the TT bike.
in August 2023 I bought the current Speedmax CF7-disc, their lowest end Speedmax. A month after I bought it, I competed in a 70.3 that I had done before on my road bike. I was 15-minutes faster. I was very well prepared for the race and my training leading up to the race was perfect, so that also played it's part, but what I can't argue with is with my average speed. I only got to ride it about 10 times before my race, and I road it on all my favorite routes, climbs and straights. I was smashing Strava PR's on every ride that I had on my road bike. I averaged 20.5mph during the 70.3. I have never averaged better than 19 mph on my road bike on a course that long.
Dreaming about one.
i need this Canyon 😍
I am actually trying to purchase either the CF 7 or CF 7 AXE. Not sure if the extra money is worth for electronic shifting only. Saying that, I do hate the cables sticking out on the CF model. I am also considering the Giant Trinity.
Any thoughts?
what about the different power used? would be nice to see average power held on all rides and then compared the time differences to see if you are any faster
That bike is stunning and would probably gain me a couple minutes in placebo confidence alone! That being said, I'm too tall (6'6") for any used bike options and family and medical financial priorities mean I'm stuck with my 12 year old motobecane carbon internet special 😬🤦. I have a half ironman coming in Sept. Could you do a video of the best bang for your buck add ons and accessories like aero bars, socks, helmets, bottom bracket, chain, etc.? I'll just continue dreaming of a canyon aero bike for now and grind away at V02 max gains!
We've got your back Calvin! Try this video out 👉czcams.com/video/qgGGLeuExsc/video.html - We hope it helps! Good luck with the Ironman!
I bought my first road bike, 2 weeks after I put some aero bars on it and after that I wanted a tri bike, even I dont di triathlon at the moment, just want it to be faster and more comfortable bcs I really enjoy the position on the aero bars the most
That's awesome! It's a slippery slope though 👀 You'll be entering triathlons before you know it 🤣
So is this only available in the UK/Europe? Because there's only one option here in the States (the CF 7) and it's sold out. The AXS is not available as a selection at all.
im looking forward to ride my self-build china Tri bike tt912..
i have been racing on my aluminium tcr with tri-bars , and have solo training 90k pb sub 2:45.
my tt92 built was completed during Ramadhan, so i never had the chance to try it at full energy at disposal
tho the gearing is totally different, going from 50/34T to 1x 54T mechanical
Awesome! Enjoy the new bike! We bet your speeds will sky rocket 🚀
What an awesome bike...😊
Which one? 👀
When will there be braking possible in the aerobars?
I have been trying to get comfortable on the TT bike. After 2 + hours on the TT I find I become less comfortable and start spending a bit more time on the bull horns instead of the aero position. You commonly see this in the second half of an IM. Many people riding Triathlon bikes in a non aero position. We are not all limber serious athletes.
It would be interesting to see how Triathlon Bike in non aero V road bike, and is there a level at how much time you need to spend in the aero position before it starts been counter productive.
the price now is waaay closer to what regular people can afford . That's nice
Just been on Canyons website and it appears you can get this on cycle to work scheme!! Not sure how i will explain to the HMRC that my watt saving on way to work = more productivity??
17 min if you are in the lower 50% of participants makes little sense compared to price. Granted you can get cheaper triathlons bikes than the expensive Canyon. Love the Canyon though. Would love to see how much each minute improvement costs. Wish Canyon would sell it as a frame set, so you can utterly customize it.
I'm absolutely in the market for a used TT/Tri bike. Next paycheck and I've saved enough for a decent one.
Mark got a second hand TT bikes over on GCN this weekend 👉czcams.com/video/t2Y8QQCBjm0/video.html
@@gtn sweet! That's about my budget
If only it was in stock...
What's the spec of the road bike? Hard to tell if these bikes are in the same price range to make a comparison worthwhile.
I can manage a pretty decent Ironman swim (about 1:23/100m) but get destroyed on my road bike when the serious tt bike guys get out of the water 😢
Have you made any modifications? I use clip on aero bars and a profile design fast forward seat post on my road bike
@@Borntoberolled I’ve got the clip ons but never tried the seat post thanks for the tip !
You would expect that with a proper bike fit rather than the default set up and time spent in the aero position that his time would get faster than the one posted in the video. This would be the case on the cheaper version of the bike (or any other TT bike too).
Obviously.
Already solved 1000 times
I can’t believe canyon don’t sell this bike in the US. They are just leaving money on the table.
It’s all well and good showing us that you can buy speed with an aerobic. Please do a video where you put yourselves in the shoes of 90% of the people who watch your videos and buy a second hand aero bike (off something like Facebook marketplace). Let us know what to look for and what to avoid. What would be a good deal etc… and then compare to a bike like this and compare how much the extra money buys you.
We've done some great content on how to upgrade a second hand TT bike 👉czcams.com/video/saGwndgPRnY/video.html or is you need some buying tips this one might help 👉czcams.com/video/9jlsgsPUgXg/video.html - Keep the ideas coming we love hearing from the community!
Helpful to see how an average newer triathlete did than an ex pro. Still not convinced 17 minutes is worth the price. But I appreciate the information
The thing i find interesting about TT bikes is how much faster they are even while riding the base bar
Aerodynamics can really go a long way 🙌
A lot of my races are draft legal
why not use the lowest from Canyon? the 105 ? i think better value and would be nice to see the dfference
Because the whole video was an ad...
@@Cid0484 so they should make an ad with the cheaper one :D But i know how GTN and GCN works :D is sad that they have to say whats on the script and do anything 5000 times:D I wish they make a vid for normal people xD
@@kevinb6835 They did a video a few weeks ago on a cheap road bike vs super tribike. They stated that even though the top end bike was faster, most would see huge improvements on the lower end tribike.
Hey GTN,
can you make a comparison of the Speedmax CF 7 with one of your Speedmax CFRs?
How much time difference can you buy with the fully kitted Speedmax CFRs?
And could you match it against Ollies TT-Bike on a budget (czcams.com/video/sOmLV0EVv_4/video.html) or against Belindas Bike (czcams.com/video/saGwndgPRnY/video.html)
Is the CF 7 really a superbike on a budget or is it just a expensive gateway drug?
Did you guys give Jacob the bike?
He wishes 🤣 Would you like to see Jacob coming back for some more beginner content?
TT full aero 10k in 13min 22 sec. Aero roadbike 10k for 15min 17sec
10.000 € for at max 5 minute down into an half Ironman bike course? I'm still in my road bike, thanks.
No need to spend so much. Could be just as easy as getting a used tri bike. The geometry from a TT vs Road is different and made to minimize frontal area
Wasn't it the CF7? It's only 4000 for this one.
Guys... We are not pros! I love fancy bikes and I love triathlon, but even 4k it's really too much for just an hobby. I prefer getting fitter and fitter and gaining that gap with my legs because, honestly speaking, nobody cares about age groupers. Marketing does.
@@salvatorerondinelli completely agree. However, they are doing a good job, because I WANT THIS BIKE! 😃
@@salvatorerondinellito be fair, compared to say photography or cars this isn't all that bad in terms of cost.
Of course you don't need to spend near that much, but nothing against anyone that does as long as they've also put in the work.
Riider puts in a 10k effort then tests the other bike. What a joke!
Still slower than a used Trinity!
just the pub for Canyon !!! there are many tt bike better than this !
The science says that for the conditions in this AD the tri bike was faster. Real world results may differ.
Would you like to see a full scientific test? Maybe we should lend the new Canyon to Jacob so he can get used to it 😉
yes please. Multiple subjects as well to improve uncertainty. How about my tri club get involved?
Give him a month and I'm sure he'd knock another 30-50 seconds off that time.
Should we lend the bike to Jacob so he can get used to it?💨
