    • @jollyface5986
      @jollyface5986 Před 3 lety +108

      Dilios was based off a real life character, aristodamus, who was to be sent back with another named eurytus since they both had eye problems, but eurytus turned back and died in battle despite being nearly blind. Heroditus the historian said if they had both gone back together there would be no blame put on either but since he went back by himself he was shunned as a coward. When the battle of plataea went down, he redeemed himself in the Spartans eyes by fighting with such fury before dying. In herodutus’ eyes he fought with the most bravery of any spartan before dying. Also the 300 Spartans were only fighting alone on the last day, to give their comrades enough time to escape, around a thousand or so warriors (not Spartans) since they knew they had found the hidden trail and would be flanked. They did this because their other comrades were simultaneously fighting the Persians at sea and if they hadn’t held that spot, it could very easily have meant the end of Greece in the whole of the war.

Also in Skirmish mode as you ,Spartans where trainded from even their earliest years of their life , second Spartan were wellknow practiceners of the martial art of ''Pankration '' that forms of that tecnics are influenced modern times martial arts suck as karate , and mma . So if a Spartan meet lets say with a viking in a scenario , Spartan has more rpossibilities to win the fight , without even use any weapon , just because he is a martial artist and well trained with the toughest militaristic systems that the humanrace has develop (agoge, crypteia) , so is also well durabible and with high stamina , gymnastic use ,so he would also have muscles , and a heavy armor of bronze or iron , or a mixer of both . Viking would have more possibilities to surpass the Spartan in Huge body structure that they were know of ....
      On the mongols side , mongols were just well know for the cavarly tactics such as ''hit and run'' , do you know who else in ancient times was useing that tactics Scythians !!!! . So Spartans had a solution that and is spartan phallanx formation (the shield wall or spear wall formation ) mongols there would be no way to break that in cavarly tactics dude , especially if the charge on that formation. Those guys they were usein Spears more that the two swords that they were careing the Spartans , and a huge bronze shield , so difficult to shot him with the arrows , and even more difficult to hit him as the spartan has the spear around . The real history behind Aristodemes Is both sad and note worthy, he was the only Spartan to return home alive from the original 302 at Thermopylae. Despite doing so under orders by King Leonidas due to an eye infection, Aristodemes was scorned and shunned as a coward. Scrutinised and mocked during his time back in Sparta, Aristodemes would later join the Spartan and allied Greek Army at Plataea the following year. At the Battle of Plataea Aristodemes Is said to have walked out in front of the Greek ranks and gave a speech, he then proceeded to turn around and charge the entire Persian Army alone, committing battle suicide. Aristodemes was crisitised for his reckless action, but recieved a battlefield salute by the Spartan Army for his bravery and was redeemed of his honour. The Greeks would go on to win at Plataea on Land and at Mycale at sea ending the second Persian invasion of Greece.

They did this because their other comrades were simultaneously fighting the Persians at sea and if they hadn’t held that spot, it could very easily have meant the end of Greece in the whole of the war

    People talk about how no one would have heard him, but actually, you would be surprised how well sound carries when everyone is being silent and still. There was no ambient noise, not really, no cars, no jet echos, no hustle and bustle. Battle speeches were not uncommon, nor were they unhelpful, speeches to armies before battle were quite common. Granted, not for spartans, and not actually deployed on the battlefield as these were, they were usually quite a bit before the battle, as in these moments the orders would be given and positioning would be taking place.
    but who cares, this is cool.

The same can't be said about the Greeks, Sparta was a totalitarian oligarchy and they literally molested boys as part of their culture. Alexander was remarkable, but I believe his conquest is owed to his familial bloodline, not the Greeks who tried to mutiny him at some point.
