Haven't commented in awhile, but I haven't missed a video. Whew!!! From someone who's been up on a metal roof multiple times, my nerves where on edge when Doug was on the edge of the roof like that. So glad everyone stayed safe. The roof looks absolutely fantastic!!!
It's so heartwarming to see your kids in the background of every video, engaging in the classic childhood activities that remind me of my own pre-video game days. Almost all children today are not around parents learning from them but are locked away watching or playing something. Your natural parenting style really shines through, even when you're not trying. Doug, we put a glob of roof caulk over each screw to prevent rusting. Also helps with eventual leaks around the screws. Just a thought. It’s looking fantastic!!
The screws have a pad that prevents the leaks, if he had to put a glob on each screw he would be there for weeks.
I think they said they use screws that don't rust.
I'm thinking she means the screws around the boot for the exhaust pipe.
@@DiannaGrable-fm8jd correct I used the same screws on a metal patio roof 8 years ago no problems at all and they do not rust.

Another great example of teamwork and agility. Doug, if you had disappeared, I would not have believed it was magic, I would have been screaming. Those last two panels were a little scary but you proved your ability to walk the edge of disaster. Those roses are beautiful and the thought so sweet. Do take a day or two to rest before starting the other side, we will wait patiently.

Awe Maggie , I understand that 😂when I was younger I could walk on a roof no problem but the older I’ve gotten the more heights scare me. 😱 they are healthy and very stable very strong and have good balance . They will be fine ❤ Jesus takes care of them ❤

Put another rubber boot over that one, it protects the rubber from the sun. Don’t need to screw it just put it over the top.
That's what I was thinking, seal the existing bolts with more sealant just to be safe, then add an additional rubber to cover that one as additional coverage.
I did that, too.

The weather is about to get extremely hot and humid where they live so it is good they won't have to deal with a roof in the hotest part of summer.

On your vent being that large, I would recommend making some type of screening to keep unwanted critters out, such as squirrels. They love PVC for some reason, bats and mice too can be a nuisance. Squirrels are known to climb up the side of walls or gutter down spouts if you ever install then. If you do, only use a metal wire, not PVC, they'll eat it.

My husband had a friend and fellow roofing partner who was measuring a roof and backed off into mid air! He had just mere hours earlier, sat at my breakfast table and enjoyed his last meal. I can hardly watch you working on the roof.

Yea, I would have loved to experience the total eclipse, but we did look at it with a welder mask and it was still cool. I could feel the temp drop a bit and it got dimmer out :) We'll have to watch the 2045 one, hopefully :D

I agree! I have been wearing sunglasses for about 10 years and I am 67. Everyone else I know that’s around my age has cataracts and I don’t. I have blue eyes, so I think it’s because I wear sunglasses pretty much any time I’m outside and the sun is shining.

Excellent work - as is Ashley and Doug's norm! Although definitely not an easy task the way Doug breaks it down with thorough details it actually makes sense. Understanding his methods does not encourage me to tackle such a project but it does help me recognize the expertise involved. Being an informed consumer should help me avoid a situation I encountered with my last rooding job. As always much respect and appreciation for Ashley and Doug - a True Dynamic Duo!
We just passed a mobile home yesterday with a new-looking metal roof like this, and I thought, "Hey, they've been watching Doug & Ashley!!" It looked really nice, as I'm sure yours will when it's finished. It looks good so far!
