Critical to remind ourselves success at club level does not always translate at national level. It's a different ball game...
We've seen past WC winning managers who were never prolific at club level.
Take Spain e.g., Luis Enrique has a stellar CV winning the lot with Barcelona, but it's De La Fuente who's built their current identity & style through the youth system.

I love how fans think all England have to do is get an elite coach and then suddenly we’ll definitely win. You know these managers styles take years to implement and managers like pep and klopp if they have a problem they can buy someone new. International management is completely different and has far more to do with how the players perform than how the manger performs. Any team who has won an international tournament for the most part are not elite managers and just know how to get a good feeling goin in the dressing room.

Mancini - Italy 2020 Euros, Fernando Santos - Portugal 2016 Euros (ex Porto, Sporting and Benfica manager), Joachim Lowe - Germany 2008 euros and 2014 WC (Stuttgart and Fenebache). Luis de la Fuente - 2024 Euros (Bilbao 6 years and Alaves 2 years). All managers for the last 20-30 years have been highly experienced manager who have all manager big clubs in the top leagues.

Lowe was crap at a mid table Stutgarrt and sacked after a year at Fenebache
The only two who can be deemed elite coaches are Del Bosque and Mancini.
And now compare the most recent major trophy winning coaches.

The number 1 most important thing we do right now is to move forward- not backwards. Many England fans have shown themselves to be willfully blind to the outstanding work Southgate has done in the mentality of that team, but it´s going to be invaluable going forward. A team who went 2-1 down to Iceland at 18 minutes and didn´t ever look likely to turn it around are now a team that comes back from behind on 4 separate occasions and scores 6/6 penalties on their way to a second consecutive final. If we lose that again, forget the formation, forget the tactics, forget who gets picked to play, forget subsitutes, we can go another 60 years without winning anything if we throw away the foundation that has been built these last 8 years.

In regards to appointing a manager for England, the issue lies with the FA, which seems to prioritize appointing figureheads over selecting a manager with the best chance of leading England to victory. The FA also needs to be held accountable as they introduce new rules to the game, like adding significant amounts of minutes to games that could mean up to 3-6 more additional games per season for the average Premiership player. Players were already mentally and physically fatigued before this, but they have used business before respecting the spirit of the game, which reflected deeply in the way Gareth Southgate laid out the team. The FA needs to scale down the amount of playing time by 15% in order to reduce injuries and fatigue to our key players; otherwise, the potential England has will not be shown when playing for England. There is a reason why football will not come home any time soon.

We would be foolish to just outright rule out a non English manager from the get go. We have a talented group of players that could do really well at future tournaments. Let’s not drop the ball by wasting this talent on a manager who isn’t up to the job.
I’d like to see Tuchel in the role though I doubt he’d take it. Southgate did a tremendous job at improving the team spirit and togetherness. We MUST keep this new culture but also improve on our tactical approach and playing with a style/identity. I think Tuchel has the personality, character and quality to provide this.

It’s not just down to the England manager. We have had multiple managers since Sir Alf and same result.
We have no identity of playing, against the very top sides we can’t retain the ball properly. The England manager has contact with the players around 10 times a year and then come tournament time have to pick the bones out of the players who are not injured or out of form. Then they have to wing it, as Southgate did, during the tournament, relying on luck of the draw and moments to get to the final.
