      And when they won a throw at the far right end of Spain and they threw it back to a player around midfield who passed it all the way to Pickford when the ball should have been around the penalty area in the first place and let the forwards deal with it At least there would always be a chance. Kane was nowhere. After 58 yrs this was a chance they should have grabbed by hook or by crook

      It doesn't make sense thinking about what Kane does at club level (or what he's done for England in the past) if he's not playing in the same system. Kane isn't dropping to play pacy wingers in and follow in late. He's dropping deep into a pointless passing clusterfuck with no movement or runs, and then not running forward himself to offer an option.
      Its funny. Southgate didn't pick players based on form for years, but when he does it's just picking players rather than a team with a system and clear style. Just like his slow to react subs policy, where he waited until the 975th minute to make a change, fans complained, he's suddenly pressured into finally making an early sub and it's the wrong one, and then he goes back to late subs hoping they can rescue the game when his primary "plan" fails as always. It's beyond incompetence. It almost looks deliberate. Maybe kids like Mainoo are only there as a perfectly placed scapegoat for when we fail. Maybe he was doing a Hollywood (when someone writes something bad): hoping the Asian bots would come out firing with their racism again so he'd be out of the spotlight and the blame could be placed elsewhere. The point was that all tournament we looked average and defensive. Kane was off the pace and we couldn’t counter attack. Every time he came off, we looked better. Every time Palmer came on, we played better. Walker was just quick and offered no final product in every game, yet apparently Trippier who plays for Newcastle, is the next choice over Trent Arnold, who’s been first choice right back for the only team to consistently challenge City most seasons. He’s also one of the best crosses in the world and a dead ball specialist. Gareth constantly picks a team that’s struggled and only changes to a more attacking team, when we’re in trouble. Why keep choosing the same team and expect a different result. It’s time for younger players to be given a chance.

None of the Spanish goals came from buildups in middle in any case, which is a testimony that Rice did his job well regardless of how impossible that proved to be. Rice is NOT to be blamed for passing the ball to the defense line, which in turn passed it back to Pickford who blasted it away on the other half aimlessly 20 times, gifting up ball possession to Spain... its a tactical issue that weights on Southgate alone, and not on any specific player (not even on Pickford). The main issue is Kane's immobility and dropping back, which makes the midfield very congested when England had possession... it creates a "domino" effect with inability to progress the ball through the middle, which makes all the midfield players look very bad, not only Rice.

    SJ on his PR stint for Kneelgate, saying "I guarantee" if Watkins & Palmer were on from the start it would have been the same story.
    What rubbish, for every time those two came on things changed for the better, just it was always as late substitutes.
    Talking up Kneelgate as a gentleman and and nice guy this, nice guy that, what TF that got to do with winning?
    He created an atmosphere in this tournament whereby then players were simply unlistenable in interviews, like righteous programmed robots, barking back at criticism, very justified criticisim, which they couldn't or wouldn't comprehend.
    For a team/squad of that calibre of players and the utter dross they served up in most of all their games, was shameful.
    He created a touchy-feely-kneely vibe that only worked in their own little bubble, which was detached from the reality of the football and tactis they served up.
    No one has ever slated the man on a personal level, for all his faults as a manager he does come across as a good fella, just not a good manager.
    It's his selections, tactics, style of play and even substitutions that there's plenty to steam into about.
    It's not his fault he was appointed, he tried his best, just his best is/was no where near good enough.

  • @dendemano
    @dendemano Před měsícem +3

    The best England player throughout the tournament was Palmer, who had a bit part role. The team was clearly unbalanced and lacked both a solidity and fluidity on the left, yet he played a natural attacking left sided player for a 4 minute cameo. He didn’t have the bottle to drop, or at least rest a struggling “Kane”. The guaranteed response after equalising was as predictable as it was sorrowful, which meant conceding the opportunity for taking advantage of a temporarily rattled Spain side and going for the jugular. The introduction of Watkins had an immediate impact on the Spanish defence and midfield, as they were forced onto the back foot by the constant threat of a striker who could punish them with his running into space, while sitting on the shoulder of their last defender. The fact that we sat back, yet again, is the ultimate testament to Simp-gates tactics, or therefore lack of them.
    We must change the manager and employ a coach who makes better use of the plethora of talent, that we undoubtedly have.
