  • When the Mitsubishi Evolution X hit dealerships in 2008 there were some fans that did not like the redesign, or the engine. Some enthusiasts were very disappointed that Mitsubishi put a DSG gearbox in the MR edition. Did Mitsubishi move to far away from that original concept with this model? Watch to find out the details!

    It's not a "DSG" gearbox, that's only a VW term. You can call it a DCT or TC-SST. Also, certain years and trims of GSR had the same forged wheels.
    They absolutely didn't remove the Evo X Recaro seats at the end to "cut costs", they did it because there was a change in regulations and they weren't going to make new seats just for the US in the last year of the X. Canada and other countries still got the proper Recaros in the 2015 and 2015 Final Edition cars.

      AlDim000 I appreciate your feedback. What was the safety issue that changed?

    • @AlDim000
      @AlDim000 Před 6 lety +3

      The side airbags didn't get approved for 2015, so they had to swap out the entire seats for the ones from the base Lancer.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  Před 6 lety

      AlDim000 so they could of got an approved updated seat from recaro, right?

    • @AlDim000
      @AlDim000 Před 6 lety

      For Mitsubishi it wasn't worth doing a major seat redesign for the last year of the car in just one country (especially considering that their management hadn't really cared about the Evo or the enthusiast market for a while and couldn't be bothered to do any notable updates to the car for 9 years).

      I have a 2015 mr and i like the seats better than the recaros. they are easier for me to sit in for a long time and are way more adjustable as well. i also dont understand why the sst gets so much hate. it really is amazing.

    I love my Evo X. I have people stare all the time at it. Most have no clue what it is. If you ask any Evo 8/9 owner, they will bash it all day long and tell you it's not a "real evo" blah blah blah. For the sole purpose of no 4g63. The X is an amazing car.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  Před 6 lety +2

      I personally love the EVO X! It definetly has a superior AWD system. I'm not sold on the DCT in the MR. If I was going to do it I would go the GSR route. How reliable has your Evo X been?

    • @KyleH_03
      @KyleH_03 Před 6 lety +2

      I have a GSR. My X has not had one issue. I'm super anal about maintenance and take great care of my car. Car made 530/405 stock block on my tuners virtual dyno, so probably high 400's to the wheels. I have JRZ RS Pro's. The car is just so much fun to drive.

    Almost pulled the trigger on one in 2013. Dealer wouldn't budge though. Thinking back, 62K with taxes was a little pricey for a Mitsubishi. 2020- I do plan on getting one at some point, and would pay up to 30K. It's my favourite daily driver!!

    The Evo is currently the only car I'd really consider MAYBE trading my AP1 S2K for. The Evos really hold their value, but it is hard to find ones on the used market in pristine or unmodified condition.

    • @Kevhoe
      @Kevhoe Před 6 lety +1

      As long as the modifications aren’t too extensive and are tasteful, I’d say you should still consider the car, just make sure you inspect it thoroughly(which you should do with any used car, modified or not). To keep an Evo completely stock would be doing yourself a disservice IMO, so I wouldn’t expect that from a used car I’m buying either.

    The lack of recaro seats in final year was because the side airbags wouldn’t comply with stricter DOT for 2015 - this was US only, rest of the world still got them right to end of production

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  Před 6 lety

    • @samcas707
      @samcas707 Před 6 lety +1

      then Mitsu would have to spend the money re-engineering them at manufacturer level. This was just one of those things where neither Mitsu Japan or Mitsu US were willing to bother. Most owners of the final edition cars have done the swap themselves in the aftermarket, where warranty and legal liability isn't as big of a concern

    • @AlDim000
      @AlDim000 Před 6 lety +2

      The combination of Makinen and the Evo was truly fearsome, but nobody else could figure out how to really drive the car properly, so his 4 driver titles resulted in only 1 manufacturer championship win. Subaru had 3 and 3 over a period of 9 years, so they did much better overall. Still, what Mitsubishi accomplished was amazing since they were a smaller team with a relatively modest budget. They simply couldn't adapt to the new regulations after the end of the Group A era. The Lancer WRC was a complete disaster. Subaru, on the other hand, was OK in the early 2000s and Solberg even won the title once in 2003, but their cars also became a bit of an embarrassment in the mid 2000. In the end they were too big, too difficult to handle, and had atrocious reliability. This let the new wave of smaller, nimbler cars dominate the championship to this day.

    • @AlDim000
      @AlDim000 Před 6 lety +1

      The MR is better than the GSR in a lot of ways. The TC-SST is an awesome transmission (despite some reliability problems) and it's a much better daily as well. The GSR's only performance advantage stock vs stock is the slightly lower weight. Also, it's cheaper to maintain and easier to mod and tune.

    • @ORG4Runna
      @ORG4Runna Před 6 lety +1

      So that overall makes the GSR better lol. Can handle more power, more reliable and cheaper to maintain. Also, I believe the GSR has a faster 1/4 stock for stock.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  Před 6 lety +1

      Bishops I would definitely go the GSR route!😊👍🏻

    • @AlDim000
      @AlDim000 Před 6 lety

      @Bishops
      It's not more reliable, just cheaper to fix. The GSR is one of the worst cars for highway driving on the market. High RPM, a lot of annoying drone (even worse with an aftermarket exhaust), and high fuel consumption. I would not suggest owning one as an only vehicle.
      I drove a Ralliart with an identical SST transmission for a few years and it's one of the best performance DCTs on the market. It feels almost as direct and aggressive as a sequential in S-Sport mode.

  • @Kevhoe
    @Kevhoe Před 6 lety +1

    The fact that you even questioned this car as the “worst Evo” leads me to believe, or in fact, know you’ve never driven one. And I’m not saying that to put you down.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  Před 6 lety

      yukikevo I didn’t take it as a put down. I have never driven an EVO X MR but I did drive a GSR.I just feel that Mitsubishi was going astray with the EVOX MR. With a sunroof, no rear wing option, DCT, chrome trim around the grill. I guess I am very partial to previous generation EVOs. Just my opinion of course. If I were going the EVO X route I would get a GSR.

    • @Kevhoe
      @Kevhoe Před 6 lety +1

      Raiti's Rides You could option an MR with the SSS high wing. Not to mention, Mitsubishi made the Evo X SE(“Special Edition”) in 2010, which was essential a GSR trim vehicle, with the TC-SST transmission. I had a “stickshift only” mindset like you too; before actually driving the car. Have you driven any fast dual-clutch transmission cars, like, say, the GTR? It actually may challenge your views on traditional manual transmissions.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  Před 6 lety +1

      yukikevo no you are right! These new gearboxes shift lighting fast. I’m starting to change my mind. I just wish all manufacturers gave the choice.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  Před 6 lety

      yukikevo PS I was under the impression that if EVO enthusiasts had a choice of EVO they wouldn’t pick the EVO X MR.

    • @Kevhoe
      @Kevhoe Před 6 lety

      Raiti's Rides I guess, but in actuality it would depend on what any particular person is looking for out of the car. If someone wants an Evo X as their sole daily driver, the Evo MR Touring is much more livable from day to day, while still providing the visceral driving experience the Evo has always offered. Honestly, I would 100% pick an MR over a GSR if it’s going to be my daily, as the 5-speed has terrible gearing for highway driving(I live in Dallas, where most highways have a 75mph speed limit where everyone is going at least 80), and the interior quality is highly lacking over the MR, especially with the Touring package, which actually feels borderline luxury. Daily driving a X GSR where I live makes me cringe.

      alphazoom II it’s crazy how Mitsubishi never really developed their 6sp that came in the 2007 EVO 9. I heard it wasn’t as tough at the 5-sp.

    • @Kevhoe
      @Kevhoe Před 6 lety +1

      It’s actually faster than the GSR. The dual-clutch in the MR is faster shifting than any traditional manual transmission.

    • @Kevhoe
      @Kevhoe Před 6 lety +1

      Raiti's Rides I would barely call it much of an “issue” though. If you’re going to track the car hard, it’s a $500 fix(for a trans cooler), not a lot of money in the aftermarket modification world.
