  • Review of the Christopher Ward Twelve, their entry into the integrated case and bracelet market. I discuss the details, pros, and cons. If you are in the market for this style of watch, I highly recommend considering their 40mm or 36mm versions, and who knows what is in store for the future ;)

    1 con is that there isn't any coating on the titanium, making everything very scratchable. I don't treat my watch like a baby, and just from normal wear, i picked up a lot of scratches on the bracelet near the clasp. It wont be obvious, but under certain lighting, you can clearly see them. So be prepared if you decide to get one. Love everything else though, nice video!

      yeah that would have been worth my mentioning in the vid. titanium will pick up some scratches! thanks for watching.

      Thanks for this info. I have an Oris Pro Pilot X and love the watch but absolutely hate how easy it scratches. It's the same grade of titanium as this.

      they do have the steel versions if scratches are a concern for people. I haven’t had too much trouble beyond some character on the bracelet with my Bel Canto, which is grade 2. Case is grade 5. Titanium is a softer metal…has the weight trade off.

    I received the exact variant shown here. Overall I like it very much. While visually intriguing, I would prefer to omit the gradient shading, but I also prefer the Ti construction, the thinner case, and the COSC certification that all come with this upgraded model. The date window is nicely discreet. I was disappointed however to find that my watch lost around 19 seconds per day. It is now on its way back to CW in the UK to be inspected at no cost to me. At the same time that I received it, I also happened to receive what is now the least costly watch in my collection, and I enjoy wearing that one as much as the others; food for thought.

      Interesting comment about the gradient colour, that's one of the main things that is attracting me to it. I'm not a collector and have never paid more than £200-£300 or so for a watch so it's given me a dilemma. I've been looking for a watch for a long while but didn't find anything I really wanted. But CW have two or three that I really like, this being my favourite. My problem is it's also well over budget, just my luck that the one I like the most is the wrong end of my budget.

    • @WatchComplications
      @WatchComplications  Před 6 měsíci

      I'll agree with @severnsea below as well that the gradient is a personal preference. I'm ok with the ombré effect and like it on my bronze especially. Sorry to hear it was losing time, but I'm certain CW will sort it out. And I hear you about the cost thing...I have some REALLY nice watches in the collection, but I tend to wear based on what I like and for the most part that's one or two of my CWs, my Tudor, and my Casio MRW-200h. I have to do a vid on the Casio because it's a top 3 watch for me! 😂

      FWIW, the relatively inexpensive watch to which I referred is the Spinnaker Bradner Pacific Blue. It currently comes with a beads-of-rice bracelet. They sell direct. I was lucky to get it for $230 USD. Even at $300 I would call it a great value. It took a few weeks to arrive from Hong Kong. I like it very much as a casual watch and a beater.

    Nice video again, Brian. I also prefer this on the rubber strap, less shiny/blingy kind of look. Odd for an 'integrated bracelet watch' but then it's not about what niche it falls in, it's about what you want to see on your wrist. Somewhat cheaper too. For the quality offered, the value is really there.

  • @severnsea
    @severnsea Před 7 měsíci

    Interesting review. I wonder if, because the watch isn't of a style you prefer, it's a little easier to find issues with it? I'm thinking about the comments about toning it down and legibility. I know absolutely nothing about watches. I either like the look of them or I don't but with this watch I think you lose it if you start to do tone it down, and the C63 Sealander would probably be a better choice for anybody who thinks it's too "blingy". There's no point, you end up with little to distinguish it from other similar watches such as the PRX. I haven't seen a single other review that has put forward the view that CW have overdone it, and I'm struggling to see how you could have legibility problems too in most situations, such is the contrast between the hands and the dial. But surely you would just choose a darker coloured dial if that's important to you? Still, maybe I'm biased too, because in my eyes it's one of the nicest watches I've ever seen.

    • @WatchComplications
      @WatchComplications  Před 6 měsíci +1

      My opinion is just my opinion and very ok with other people sharing theirs. If you look across my channel, you'll see that I'm a huge CW fan and own a variety of their watches. You're right, in my video I am upfront that it's not my style, but I don't think I let that play too much into my evaluation. It is a great watch, but in some colors it has legibility issues I think (and I've seen some more commentary on that in facebook groups). Taking some of the polish off in some places would help reduce the bling, just a tad, which would make it more approachable for some, but plenty of people are going for the more flashy look with these and that's great. The 12 is a great watch, but certainly not in my favorites of CW offerings, and yeah, some of that is my own personal taste.

      @@WatchComplications That makes a lot of sense. Don't read too much into what I said, it's not a criticism and I don't think you could have done a better review. I only came across the brand because I was looking for a new watch. As I say, I know nothing about watches as such but I can see how the lighter colours might be an issue.
      The one in the review would be my favourite colour by far, but unfortunately they only do it on the Ti model and it's too expensive for me. I considered one of the basic options in the Nordic Blue with the rubber strap and steel bracelet, seems crazy that it's half the price but in the end, as it's going to be a daily watch and pick up marks and scratches I opted for (don't laugh) a Casio Oceanus T200 from Japan for the equivalent of around $420, including delivery and import taxes. Not what I really wanted but it's a very decent watch for the money and does the job at this moment. I will be keeping an eye on CW though, I haven't missed the fact over the past few weeks that they really do make some fabulous watches that break the mould compared to many of the well established brands.

    • @WatchComplications

    New to this (watches in general)
    Considering have a customized / personalized 3 watch set made. Wife will be becoming a citizen soon, step son will be 18 soon, and figure one for myself.
    Undecided on searching for a brand set (sturdy for son, dependable for me, attractive for wife) and engrave the backs, or a set built with a custom face?
    Any info / guidance is appreciated. Could make a nice back story for a video??

    • @WatchComplications
      @WatchComplications  Před 6 měsíci

      Unfortunately, at this time I am focused on making certain custom watch parts and not on complete custom builds (you can read about it more on my website). One custom watch is very expensive and three would be triple expensive. I'd go for a watch brand like CW that also does engraving and has a variety that fit the different needs you listed.

      Yeah, it really is what a watch does for a person in the flesh and on the wrist. Still, Tissot isn't even close to CW quality at this point...be it cases, bracelets, dials, you name it, but particularly movement tweaks and development. Tissot is a boring and wholly outsourced watch brand and you can get what they offer for under 500 in other forms. This particular CW a person would be hard pressed to find an equivalent across the specs for the same price, which is what CW does well.

    The titanium they ise is very low grade. People need to understand that titanium strength and resistance is a myth. Only grade 5 titanium comes close to either 316L st steel or 904L st steel.

    • @pkennethv
      @pkennethv Před 4 měsíci +1

      Strength isn't correlated with scratch resistance (e.g. a lot of glass is harder and more scratch resistant than steel, but steel is stronger than most glass). Even grade 2 titanium is stronger than steel per-weight (but steel is stronger per-volume), but Ti will scratch more easily than most higher end steels.
      Ti strength (especially per weight) is very real, and I would say isn't a myth, but anyone who thinks Ti is more scratch resistant than a good stainless steel needs to get their propaganda susceptibility levels checked.
      I'm generalizing, as there are many ways to define/judge "strength" such as tensile strength (being pulled), or being bent, or being crushed/compressed, etc, and depending on how you're judging it, Ti can actually be a lot "stronger" than steel, even if it scratches more easily.
