Take a Hike or Boat Ride at Trillium Lake for Fabulous Mount Hood Views

In today’s video, we’ll travel to Trillium Lake in Oregon, a beloved mountain lake with fabulous views of Mount Hood.
We’ll share the highlights of exploring Trillium Lake by watercraft and on foot via the hiking trail around the lake.

Trillium Lake is in Mount Hood National Forest, about an hour and a half by car east of Portland.
It’s a popular destination, so you’ll likely find parking to be tight on the weekends. You’ll need to pay a fee to park at Trillium Lake, or use a Northwest Forest Pass. Note that the America the Beautiful pass cannot be used for Trillium Lake (we tried!). That’s unusual for Forest Service destinations.
One of the most popular ways to enjoy Trillium Lake is with boats and stand-up paddleboards. Just a heads-up that this is a beautiful place, but not one where you’ll find a lot of solitude, especially at the waterfront. Kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards are available to rent on site.

The Trillium Lake loop trail has an awesome boardwalk, but it’s under construction as of the making of this video in August 2023. The boardwalk is technically closed, but we found most people were hiking on it anyway. We’ll share what the boardwalk looks like in its current under-construction state.

Had a blind date take me to see this lake. She wasnt much to look at but the lake and Mt. Hood were breathtaking

Very nice video. Is the parking area close to the main fishing area of the lake? Also, are there restroom/porta potties close by? Thanks

Thanks! Yes, there are pit toilets near the boat launch area, which has parking nearby. People were fishing not far from there as well, though I’m not sure where all fishing is allowed.
