Riize performing without backup dancers is actually a serve because their skills and stage presence are enough to pull a good show and koreans seems to like it because they really showcased their performing skills . Plus, the the tvxq x riize stage is soooooo iconic.

LOL I LOVED GIDLE’S PERFORMANCE! Mics were ON, VOCALS were stable, the girls looked gorgeous. They actually had crowd engagement rather than just coming up on stage , singing and leaving . The show seemed more fair than last year's in my opinion because more groups I like got their chance to shine. Wish NCT127 could be there, but they had an emotional last concert a few days ago before Taeyong goes to the military. Overall, I was impressed with what I saw this year. Kep1er didn’t copy ITZY here we go… 😭 they had an arcade theme for their performance meaning a video game on top of that it was a racing concept as well. The men they fought in the scene were trying to stop them from completing the race which is why at the end of the performance it says “Mission Complete” and I didn’t know ITZY owned black clothes?? not to mention they learned that stunt in one day before the show 💀 like let’s be fr it’s getting tired

Le Sserafim's vocals aren't the absolute best, yes. But they're not terrible either. Yunjin and Chaewon are excellent vocalists, and Sakura, while the weakest of the five in live performances, isn't bad either. And a major reason for the increasing instability of her voice these past few years is the backlash she constantly recieves from people like you and the resulting insecurity. Of course that doesn't make her a better singer, but it gives background. As for Eunchae and Kazuha in particular, they're not amazing yet but they've shown incredible improvements in the past year. Especially Kazuha, who didn't have anything to do with singing for the biggest part of her life and then spent only six months as a trainee. Considering this and the incredibly difficult choreographies they're given, their singing is still impressive. And quite honestly, I prefer idols with slightly unstable live vocals to those that live off of autotune and don't even sing live.
Also lets not pretend that singing live as a professional you'll be hitting every note on key 100% of the time, like nobody is that perfect and it's fine lmao I watched the LE SSERAFIM performance after seeing this video expecting the worst and it was... fine? Agreed. Their vocals are way over analyzed and unfairly compared to others constantly for no reason when their performances are overall fantastic. Not to mention that Sakura is not meant to be anything more than a sub vocalist. Which isn’t a new concept. Lots of groups have members who are weak vocally and strong in something else. Like I could name a lot of *very* beloved idols here that somehow never get criticism for this as much as Sakura. Kazuha and Eunchae have definitely been pushed probably more than originally expected with Garam no longer being there as a bridge between the mains and subs. But they’re doing a great job and have improved a lot. Both were recruited out of dance backgrounds exclusively and had short training periods comparatively to most idols. Yunjin always gives a very authentic live vocal when she has the opportunity. She does ad libs and small changes, which is great. Of course that means it won’t be 100% album quality perfect, but that’s not the goal of live performance anyway. At least not in most genres. I’ll always stick up for her vocals, she has a great pedigree and classical training that is applied well and her PD48 performances were insane. Chaewon is just extremely accurate and doesn’t take a lot of risks live. Which is good too. Her higher register is necessary for their harmonies to have the right sound. She’s the consistent ace anchor of the group, sort of like a Nayeon or Seulgi type member.
I'm sorry what? This is Sakura's job. The insecurities she builds from comments, and opinions of dislike of her voice should not be causing her to have unstable vocals during performances. That's an excuse. She chose this path, and that is a goofy excuse for her personal lack of vocal instability.

Riize's performance was the only one i thought was really creative and new. they really outdid themselves, and their dance break in front of the audience was so.. i was dozing off a bit before them but that woke me up. and I thought they'd just do Siren as is but the remix was so fun like.. probably the only performance that had me dancing.

Though I agree with you on a lot of these points I am slightly shook you didn’t include seventeen here. They were one of the best performers in the history of MAMA. Their live singing was so stable while they hit every beat to the song. The vocals, the rap, the stage presence, everything was on point. Not to mention the ending of god of music and super was so immaculate it had me on the floor. They literally saved MAMA this year.

I liked Enhypen's performance and the crowd was really into it and even doing the song chant. Seventeen was great. Other performances especially GG performances failed to bring out the energy of the crowd like the crowd was totally sleeping. Overall a very boring show.
The lack of crowd energy has nothing to do with the ggs performance but the fans attending. Bgs tend to have massive fandoms which take up the majority of the seats at awards shows and are notoriously known for not cheering for the ggs its been happening for years.

For Day 1 Riize X TVXQ was more engaging than anything else. Rising sun is such a bob. I was thrilled when they sang together. Not a TVXQ fan but this song is growing on me. They killed it!

as someone who loved and looked forward to performances of my artists on the mama stage this year was very disappointing and the artists are not the ones to blame, MAMA IS. Mama invested way too much in the location itself that they forgot to invest somewhere else. Comparing this year to past years, you can clearly see the stage is way too big and boring like nothing flashy at all. AND the overall production was just so low, the camera worked bad like I didn't want to see the crowd at all. The lighting was terrible. AND THEY FORGOT THE MAIN THING, PROPS if we see previous performances we can clearly notice the stage was small first thing and it was filled with different props that filled the stage and like they were the base of creating an environment catering to different genres of every artist. The background for most of the performance was just awful. But even after all this the artist really did their best to keep their energy high and I appreciate that a lot. (I saw Txt and The8's (seventeen's member) mama performance practice and damn the camerawork of those videos is better than the entire 2023 mama.)

Kep1er didn’t copy ITZY here we go… 😭 they had an arcade theme for their performance meaning a video game on top of that it was a racing concept as well. The men they fought in the scene were trying to stop them from completing the race which is why at the end of the performance it says “Mission Complete” and I didn’t know ITZY owned black clothes?? not to mention they learned that stunt in one day before the show 💀 like let’s be fr it’s getting tired

Le Sserafim's vocals aren't the absolute best, yes. But they're not terrible either. Yunjin and Chaewon are excellent vocalists, and Sakura, while the weakest of the five in live performances, isn't bad either. And a major reason for the increasing instability of her voice these past few years is the backlash she constantly recieves from people like you and the resulting insecurity. Of course that doesn't make her a better singer, but it gives background. As for Eunchae and Kazuha in particular, they're not amazing yet but they've shown incredible improvements in the past year. Especially Kazuha, who didn't have anything to do with singing for the biggest part of her life and then spent only six months as a trainee. Considering this and the incredibly difficult choreographies they're given, their singing is still impressive. And quite honestly, I prefer idols with slightly unstable live vocals to those that live off of autotune and don't even sing live.
Also lets not pretend that singing live as a professional you'll be hitting every note on key 100% of the time, like nobody is that perfect and it's fine lmao

Agreed. Their vocals are way over analyzed and unfairly compared to others constantly for no reason when their performances are overall fantastic. Not to mention that Sakura is not meant to be anything more than a sub vocalist. Which isn’t a new concept. Lots of groups have members who are weak vocally and strong in something else. Like I could name a lot of *very* beloved idols here that somehow never get criticism for this as much as Sakura.
Kazuha and Eunchae have definitely been pushed probably more than originally expected with Garam no longer being there as a bridge between the mains and subs. But they’re doing a great job and have improved a lot. Both were recruited out of dance backgrounds exclusively and had short training periods comparatively to most idols.
Yunjin always gives a very authentic live vocal when she has the opportunity. She does ad libs and small changes, which is great. Of course that means it won’t be 100% album quality perfect, but that’s not the goal of live performance anyway. At least not in most genres. I’ll always stick up for her vocals, she has a great pedigree and classical training that is applied well and her PD48 performances were insane.
Chaewon is just extremely accurate and doesn’t take a lot of risks live. Which is good too. Her higher register is necessary for their harmonies to have the right sound. She’s the consistent ace anchor of the group, sort of like a Nayeon or Seulgi type member.

Umm I disagree. I loved so many performances. The Collaboration stage of TXT, ZB1, BND was crazy good. TXT, Ateez, Seventeen, Treasure, Enhypen - they all were so good.
I thought Riize Performance was really insane as a rookie group just debuted 3 months ago. They literally filled the space with the group self. They did really good job!

Riize's performance was the only one i thought was really creative and new. they really outdid themselves, and their dance break in front of the audience was so.. i was dozing off a bit before them but that woke me up. and I thought they'd just do Siren as is but the remix was so fun like.. probably the only performance that had me dancing.
but i would agree that overall, MAMA kind of sucked. and i fear it's cuz there aren't too many artists that actually do fun stages presenting. like i'm not a fan of Jessi but her stages were fun, and this year the collabs were so like.. serious? nothing really cvnty or excited, no one trying to hype the crowd, they just got the job done and left lol, felt a bit drab.

Though I agree with you on a lot of these points I am slightly shook you didn’t include seventeen here. They were one of the best performers in the history of MAMA. Their live singing was so stable while they hit every beat to the song. The vocals, the rap, the stage presence, everything was on point. Not to mention the ending of god of music and super was so immaculate it had me on the floor. They literally saved MAMA this year.
Should I watch it? I haven’t watched any boy groups performances yet bc after watching (G)-idle’s performance, I felt like that was enough of MAMA 2023 for me😅

I liked Enhypen's performance and the crowd was really into it and even doing the song chant. Seventeen was great. Other performances especially GG performances failed to bring out the energy of the crowd like the crowd was totally sleeping. Overall a very boring show.
The lack of crowd energy has nothing to do with the ggs performance but the fans attending. Bgs tend to have massive fandoms which take up the majority of the seats at awards shows and are notoriously known for not cheering for the ggs its been happening for years.

Do you know how difficult is that. They are monster rookies. Even without backup dancer it was engaging. Shotaro's dance break. Sungchan flip..They are insane. For Day 1 Riize X TVXQ was more engaging than anything else. Rising sun is such a bob. I was thrilled when they sang together. Not a TVXQ fan but this song is growing on me. They killed it!

zb1 actually pleasantly surprised me tbh wasnt expecting much going into it but I really enjoyed it
as someone who loved and looked forward to performances of my artists on the mama stage this year was very disappointing and the artists are not the ones to blame, MAMA IS. Mama invested way too much in the location itself that they forgot to invest somewhere else. Comparing this year to past years, you can clearly see the stage is way too big and boring like nothing flashy at all. AND the overall production was just so low, the camera worked bad like I didn't want to see the crowd at all. The lighting was terrible. AND THEY FORGOT THE MAIN THING, PROPS if we see previous performances we can clearly notice the stage was small first thing and it was filled with different props that filled the stage and like they were the base of creating an environment catering to different genres of every artist. The background for most of the performance was just awful. But even after all this the artist really did their best to keep their energy high and I appreciate that a lot. (I saw Txt and The8's (seventeen's member) mama performance practice and damn the camerawork of those videos is better than the entire 2023 mama.)
yes the stage was way too big and wayyy too many backup dancers sometimes i'm so sorry. this year they tried to replace props with the weird CGI thing and it was just awkward and lame.
