🎉 thank you for sharing your maple knowledge. I just picked up my first Japanese maple ❤ I've always wanted one !
I started growing JM's from cuttings and now have 12 which survived. My Dad gave me a Sycamore Maple sapling back in 2000 which we potted up and it has grown well. By 2016 it was about 12 feet tall. This May, I pruned it down to 2 feet leaving a side branch and it has responded very well with 5 new branches and many leaves and is 4 feet tall now in a large pot. I even have it appear in some of my YT videos as it's been around for so long :)
how do you know when its time to move the maple from the 1 gallon container to the 3 gallon?
I’m here in Caldwell , just got my first 2 Maples one I have planted in the ground , the other I’ll keep in a pot . My leaves are drooping so I think I’ll give her more water
Our weather here is quite challenging so best thing is to water when in doubt. You can only over water if you are in a low part of your garden or if you have a drain plate under your container, ethic we do not recommend. We also recommend Proteck to help with our high and low temperatures. Give me a call for more info.
@@suehoffer8028 thank you so.much
Do you use the entire water jug with the KLN?
Wow I wish I could grow trees like that but I live in tropical Hawaii I’ve ordered a Japanese maple before and it didn’t give leaves I think they don’t like it here our water is so alkaline.the only maple that grows here is called Joji if you can get them I’ll buy them
Japanese Maples are deciduous and must go dormant for a season. Unless you are in the big island mountain area, they will only grow as an annual. Some place their maples in refrigerators for the winter, but is not viable for standard growing. Alkaline soil can be converted into acid soil, but using Sulfur. Just sprinkle it once every season change. It will take time to acidify your soil. Get a pH meter and check it as you add the sulfur.
@@MaplesforallSeasons awesome advice thank you so much :))
Hi. I messed up today and planted my Japanese maple using miracle gro GARDEN soil. Should I dig it up tomorrow and re-plant?
Use Japanese hard akadama it has the rite amount of acidity that the maples like . And try adding some gypsum as well it helps leach out harmful salts that prevent the tree from leaving out in the spring
@@yeyo9404 Thank you!
I just did the same thing
Hello!!! I have a question that I would love you or anyone that knows can answer for me,I bought a crimson queen Japanese maple with this beautiful purple laced leaves about tree moths ago and now the new shoots have regular green leaves even the shape of the leave has change,is this normal?? I want my purple tree back, what am I doing wrong, please help
They are suckers from the rootstock. Trim them off or they will overtake the desired grafted portion of your tree.
The green leaves may be coming from under the graft. If so, removed them as it will have more vigor and potentially kill your Crimson Queen. Look for the graft line and if it growing below it, that is your issue. If the the leaves are green but still dissected, then you are not giving your maples enough light. It needs morning sun and afternoon shade.
where can I purchase that KLN product?
Hi Keramagic, you can buy it through Amazon. Have fun.

How long can they stay in pots
Their entire life
Japanese Maples can live in a container all their life. But, you must repot it by cutting it's root and adding new soil often. I recommend once a year to add new soil on top and once every 3-5 years to take it out of it's container, cut the root by 20%, add new soil and return it to it's container. Do not disturb the root ball other than cutting the bottom 20%.
Question? Why not vinegar?
We use a disinfectant to make sure that there is no pathogens in the container. We recommend Lysol versus others because it kills bacteria, molds, viruses, etc at almost 99.99% effectiveness. Vinegar is not strong enough to do this. We do recommend using white distilled vinegar if you have hard water. Use 1 tablespoon of vinegar per gallon of water. Let stand overnight and use for watering your maples.
Can I transfer from soil to pot in June?
3:30 TIMBER!!!!!!!
Lysol? Really? Do you know how bad the ingredients and the aerosol can is for the Earth? Please update your methods to this century. Thank you.
