Hello Asha, I am working and have been working on publishing my first children's book, the original date was 2014 but a lot of tragic passing's of my older brother, my mom and now two sister in laws and another brother have really put me in a bad situation of late, along with some other personal issues, but I am a fighter and your videos are encouraging and fun to watch in a inspiring way. My book, "Kreepy Krawlies" in My Tummy is being worked on as we chat. My problem is time not money, and it's a blessing to have money, but time is or haven't been on my side of late. Focusing, and fighting off distractions when I am home has become a chore of sorts. I am a poet/ writer of children's books and I love doing research on all things cultural and inspirational as well, my faith in Jehovah God and King keeps me afloat always.
If you have God you have everything you need! I hope everything works out for good 🙏

I'm researching and developing characters and am doing watercolor paintings for the illustrations. My friend is doing the dialogue and helping me develop the storylines. Newbie here. I just submitted my first book for KDP today!! Mistake made: I got so excited that after the preview, I just submitted it without requesting a sample. 😭😭😭 Now I have to wait the 72 hours to order an author's copy. 🙈

I am currently binge-watching your vids, you are so nice. Can I ask how do you add a copyright page, because you don't get the ISBN until you start publishing and after the manuscript has been uploaded, so how do you add it to the book? what's the secrete
You can actually go to KDP, begin setting up your book and request the ISBN before you upload your manuscript. That way you can add the ISBN before saving the document. I'll make a video on how to add a copyright page. But simply put, it should be included in your manuscript. Good luck!

You’re so very welcome. My books are targeted too early readers which is 2-5 here in the states. And the specifications for the page counts is indicated in KDP 😊
Hello thanks for the encouragement and insight. I have a question once you have completed your children's book and have uploaded it on canvas how do you request a sample of your book?
You are so welcome! In order to request a proof you need to scroll down to the bottom of the page on which you selected your pricing. You will see the option to publish but to the left of that button you will see "request proof of your book" or something like that. Select the amount of proofs you would like. It takes a few minutes but eventually your order will populate in you Amazon cart and you can then purchase your proofs. They are sold to you at the printing cost that is listed on the page where you decided your book price.

Hi Asha, you are very helpful. I did my book following your videos and sizes. I find it very difficult to get away with the sizes. I mad my design on Canva 6.125 and 9.25 as you said. I also calculated my cover using this size.When I uploaded on Amazon KDP I wrote this sizes. ( it corrected itself from 6.13 and 9.25) . KDP refused it saying I need to ass an extra 0.125 and 0.25 to the sizes and stretch the pictures.
I resized it but still not quite right. Could you help me? May be I should have written 6 by 9 on KDP? Thank you for help.

This was so helpful. I just completed my first children's book. It has been edited by myself and proof read by two individuals. I have an illustrator finishing up and all I need now is to self publish. I have a question. You stated that you can request a copy of the book once you upload the pdf and make changes before the book is completely ready, right? How does this process work?
You simply select "request printed proofs" this option is near the bottom of the pricing page. When you request this it will automatically send the copy to your checkout cart within a couple of hours. There you can place your order. Once you recieve the copy you are able to look it over and decide if there are any further changes that need to be made. If so, you would need to change them on the actual manuscript file and reupload it to KDP. Finally you can preview your updates on the KDP platform. Once that's done it's time to publish!

Hi, thanks for this video, I have a question, once you start selling your books on amazon, do you have to pay taxes for the money your are making off of your books?
Yes and no. You will set up your tax information for legal purposes (also if you don't Amazon can't pay you). But you may or may not be obligated to pay taxes on certain amounts of earnings. For example, at the federal level you only need to pay taxes if you earn over $12,000. So check with your state.
