Enter, stranger, but take heed, of what awaits the sin of greed.
Yes, the new LEGO Harry Potter 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank looks impressive - but do you really need it? As much as we’d all love to buy every single new LEGO set, there are limits to how many we can all bring home.
So, should you buy LEGO Gringotts?
LEGO Harry Potter’s direct to consumer sets tend to be big, beautiful and, uh, bexpensive. For the most part, there’s also no consistency to these sets - sometimes you’ll get a life-sized owl, another time, a very long train, or just a big honkin’ castle that there is no decent way to display from all angles unless you set it up on the coffee table as the permanent central feature of your house.
As such, LEGO Harry Potter fans can be forgiven for picking and choosing which large sets you purchase. Some are just going to fit the space you have available better than others, and, let’s be fair, some are going to be more interesting to you personally than others.
To a certain extent, the new LEGO Gringotts fits in with existing direct to consumer large Harry Potter sets better than others. It’s designed to expand 75978 Diagon Alley, adding in a building that was previously conspicuous by its absence from this set when on display.
If, then, you’ve already got Diagon Alley and you want it to be just a little more complete, then, absolutely, LEGO Gringotts has got you covered. It fits in nicely, almost as if it was meant to be here all along. Because, it probably was.
    Except…
Take heed of what awaits the sin of greed.
Because this set isn’t just meant to fit in with Diagon Alley, and, indeed, if you’re planning to display it as part of Diagon Alley, you’ve got some tough choices to make.

We have Dagon alley on a floating shelf on our wall. We plan on buying a small floating shelf and mounting it just underneath the shelf holding where we will be able to connect it to Diagon alley and have the vault down below. It is going to be amazing.

I will absolutely be picking it up. I already have the perfect setup for it on a glass coffee table with two shelving. So the underground portion will just be on the lower shelf. The top shelf will have the bank and Diagon Alley.
And finally, I have zero issue with Rowling's statement.

I'm mostly just interested in the mine cart base section, since it would be great to use as the central part of a MOC (like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, as mentioned). I'm hoping some people will buy the set, keep Gringotts and the minifigures, and resell the base separately on Bricklink!

Where are you located, I am more interred in the top part and am willing to get rude of the bottom. I just received Diagon Alley on Tuesday and am looking at building all of Diagon Alley, like in the movies. So instead of just 7 stores the 30+ stores.

@@eerovisser238 I live in Oregon, but I'd be willing to pay for shipping. I also have a small Bricklink store that I operate, and we might be able to do a trade (unless you only collect Harry Potter--I don't have any Harry Potter sets).

At first, I wasn't interested in a set, thinking that it was one of those stand alone items, but after learning that the building works with its sister set, I already have Diagon Alley so this will fit in beautifully. My opinion about the underground portion, I might beef that in the bags and save that build for a rainy day.

Disappointed by bringing politics at the end of the video.

    Good review. Well done.
No need for the reference to the woke mobs and their gripes (thanks for not going into the details). It's irrelevant to both Lego and the world of Harry Potter.
I understand why you would proactively want to avoid being sprayed by the Marxists though.

I completely disagree with this statement. I don't go with the woke theme but to call them "mob" is a disgrace and speaks of the comments real intentions

@@holgerbrunken3602 A group hell bent on cancelling anyone who doesn't align with its (in this case demented) views is a mob. The real intentions behind YOUR disgraceful comment are quite clear: cancelling and doxxing people is perfectly fine by you, but calling out the group guilty of such actions, now that's what's disgraceful in your view... Quite telling.

I won’t be buying this set because aesthetically, it’s a hot mess. If it wasn’t I’m sure it would be on my wish list. Not a fan of Rowling but none of the statements she’s made have been transphobic. How dare she be concerned about the rights of biological women. Why would a Lego reviewer bring politics to this kind of content? Very odd. Clearly on a mission.
